Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Windy Aft to Everyone...sounds like everyone had a blast at TO'S..nothing better for the soul than a good laugh!

It is amazing how much room those squash love to use. I've had them grow into the spruce, and over the woodpiles...kinda like a egg hunt lookin for the squash.

Nice pics , thanks for sharing them.

Nice to see the springer get some time to run. I think you should adopt him mel! Tell Ross you gotta move to the country caus of the dog. That should work, eh!

Nothing new here. Wish I had all my wood made. Prolly time to get er done I'm thinkin.

Have Fun...bigz

Sclark, your first pic is a lavender. I love your late Mr. P. Looks just like my Jack.

Cute duckies, LTF

I hate this flippin' weather..............
Thanks for your input, but can you tell me how you know that it's a lavender? Just so I can know for future reference. It's just I read somewhere that if feather base was dark it was blue and if it was clear it was lavender, this must not be true? I may be referring to self blue after reading or are they just the same thing? If thats a lavender, then is my silkie a lavender also?

So blue in orps would be the same coloring as in other breeds then? The darker neck and lightening on the way down. Sorry for all the questions but I feel dumb when I am told one color and find out that I'm relaying information wrongly. I do appreciate you clearing this up for me. My only experience has been with Lav orps and that hasn't gone so well with me breeding as I only had a lav roo with a split hen. And for blues I had a few LF cochins but they had problems and never reached maturity of them I'm left with just 1 splash.

You people are pure EVIL.

yeah, that means you my kinds of peeps. I have been dying here looking at all the lovely chicken pictures. OMG I want purple chickens now.

You know it is all your FAULTS! You are all to BLAME. Now I have to SHAME the DH into getting me an incubator. He started talking to me about building one. I told him not unless he can build it cheaper than it would be to buy one.

I do not know for sure. You would have to research and check the SOP for the differing breeds.

The best thing you can do is research, research, research before you relay information. I have found that basing knowledge on a single resource is seldom a very good idea.

Here are some pics of some of my lavs:

It's called enabling, and many here are" Hall of Fame" good at it

Quote: I believe in silkies and cochins it is called self blue. It can and is confusing. I have blue AM's and I put a picture up in the silkie thread with my silkie chicks and she was also in the picture. She was called self blue because she looks lavender by one of the posters. One color is called a different name depending on the breed of chicken and the gene used to create the color. It may look like one color to our eye, but the gene used to create the color names it. Fm and melanization and influencers are all Greek to me.
It is very confusing..here is a link that uses some basic language that seems to be a little easier to understand.
