BBP: I feel so out of the loop right now-chick days are this weekend? What breeds are coming? Are you having another batch delivered later? And yes its sounding like a crap load of snow-most snow ever on record Friday!

Was mostly decent out today, some more snow melted but now we're under winter storm warning again with up to one more foot of snow?!?!? Nooooo!!!!

Yesterday I went to grab the eggs and found one GIANT brown chicken egg for April fools day! That egg was bigger than our duck eggs! Wow. She must have been hurting pushing that baby out...

Still no trace of the bad kitty. Bought a day/night security cam but I guess it's still too cold to keep it outside I guess. The picture keeps on running off all the time :(

the additional Nightguards are on their way, and I should hopefully receive the last trial of Ancona hatching duck eggs tomorrow. Will see how those turn out.

Outta here for tonight... Night!

Anyone ever heard of a double yoker hatching out? I have a SS in now due to hatch on the 11th and candled today and both are alive and kicking so far.

Yes. Last year the 4K my son was in hatched eggs. One happened to be twins, but they had to be separated from the rest of the flock. They were half the size of the others and not as strong. They seemed a little deformed, but I don't know what became of them since they went home with a different family.

I am planning on going to Jackson County small animal auction this sat. if can get out of work early. I really would like to pick up couple of pullets. But after been reading all your posts late I am a little worried. I am new at this. What do I watch out for and what do I want to look for? Any information would be so helpful. Thank-You

I've never been to an auction, but my husband went to one last year. He came home with a bunch of Buff Orpington pullets, but it was hot out and there were way too many crammed into the box they came in. One died before making it home, but aside from that they were pretty healthy and clean. He kept them up north for a few days, and then brought them home in several boxes. If anyone hears of any auctions in or near Langlade County I would be interested. He will be turkey hunting end of April/beginning of May. It would be something to do.

Well, I started spring cleaning in the kids bedrooms. I am going through their toys and pulling out the ones they no longer play with/have outgrown. The rest are temporarily going into the man cave until I can figure out our bedroom situation. The youngest has outgrown his crib and no longer stays in it. So, I need to go furniture shopping.

We are also spring cleaning in the coop. We have at least 6 we would like to sell, but the hard part is the kids parting with their pets... Fun!

Have a great week all!

I used to love going to auctions, but just haven't figured out where there is one around here. Wouldn't actually bring anything live home, but wouldn't mind going to watch, pick up supplies if they are selling, potentially sell some chickens if timing were right. I looked about previously, but couldn't find anything I though looked like it sold poultry. Would honestly prefer that to dealing with Craigslist.

Wildsam, what are night gaurds?

I have a hen with a prolapse vent (I think) she layed an egg without a shell day before yesterday. And now has been spending a lot of time in the box. The vent looks just a little more open then our other chickens. She normally lays almost every day :/
I brought her in. And soaked her in a warm bath with epsom salt. And put hemroid cream on. She is staying in under a heat lamp.
Do I need to do more? Is there more I can do?

Thanks in advance for any advise!!

Nightguard is a little black box that has a red LED light that keeps blinking in the dark. The blinking light reminds the predators of someone watching them (the reflection of eye balls in the light) and thus they stay away from the area you are trying to protect. We first thought it's all bs but it does work! No more coyotes in our backyards, not even deer! So I would say its a very good investment, since all you have to do is screw it about predator height on the fence posts (usually in all 4 directions) and it keeps blinking away all night. My dogs were confused and didn't like it at first either, but they got over it... lol.

Here is the link to their site, just in case someone wants to check them out:

No snow so far, but they meanwhile increased the time of the winter storm warning (til Saturday morning now) and the amount of snow we're supposed to get... Does this EVER stop?!?

And then supposedly 50F on Sunday, then in the 40's and 50's. Gee, what a weather rollercoaster! One gets all confused and has no clue what to wear anymore... and the poor animals can't finally be happy about steady temperatures and weather... Just hope we won't get snow in May like we did last year!!!
