Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Annie just took a call from our friend Brian.. He is the guy who had Dora as a pup,, then when Dora had her last litter a little over a year ago, he bought one of her pups from us..
This is all going somewhere, patience grasshoppers..

a few weeks ago, Brian was out in one of his pastures and off of his atv .. it was well below freezing,
(pick a day, eh ?)

anyway, Brian slipped and fell and broke his hip.. couldn't get up..
Dora's pup came to him and dragged him all the way to his atv..

there he was able to grab onto handles etc and pull himself in..

with his one good leg he drove to the neighbors and went right inside of their garage..

they heard the motor, came out and called 911..

Brian said he would have frozen to death if it wasn't for the dog..

so, Kendra and Vicki, you see ? I told you your pups are from good stock ..

It was the best Easter weekend. Hard coming back today!
I will try,, she will be calling me back about some guineas..
she wanted a pair.. I cannot spare any hens right now..
I didn't feed them all winter just to get rid of them when I need the eggs, eh ?
I don't think people know that guineas who hatch their own eggs rarely raise many of the
keets beyond a week old..

What a wonderful story!! Hope Brian heals quickly and his pup gets an extra treat for his heroic efforts!!

Hello my dear fellow chicken, duck, peafowl, guinea etc fanciers. You too Jim !!

I'm going to make this a short post. I'm waiting for a vet to call me back.

Remember I was suppose to be going back down to Racine for my nieces baby shower on Saturday and then of course Easter on Sunday.

Well, I never made it. Very sad news here.

ET (Egg Toast... Husband Chuck) and I went to town to exchange some clothes I bought for a different size (yah I needed a smaller size) and to buy some candy for the Easter baskets after we went for lunch. I also got my hair cut (long over due) for the big weekend.

We were gone about 4 hours total.
When we got home I pulled up along side my donkeys pen (where my spotted Jenny Fifi and Jack Danny) were kept.
To our surprise there was a little baby donkey that had been born. He was laying just under the corral panel fence with his head up. I jumped out of the car screaming, a baby donkey a baby donkey.

So long story short we needed to dry him off and get the Jenny (mother donkey) to a new shelter with her baby.
We think he was born around 4:30-5:30pm. We got home about 6:45pm
The poor little guy was ice cold. I was up the whole night with him. He was standing on his own but didn't want to walk. He wouldn't drink either.
A call to the vet the next day was more then disappointing... more on that later.
So about 28 hours after this little miracle enter this world my little "Buddy" crossed over the rainbow bridge.
I am waiting for the vet in Rhinelander to call to see how much or if they can cremate him. He is between 30-40 lbs. Very long legs. Gorgeous little guy.
I am so so sad. I was crying like a baby on and off all day Saturday not only because he was failing but because I had no one to help. More on that later. Not to mention that I couldn't make it down to Racine for the baby shower or Easter dinner (plus I was going to go to church ! )
Fifi the mother was a spotted Jenny. Daddy Danny was a chocolate.... and his son was a chocolate !
Don't know how but I became so attached to him in the 24 hours I spent with him. I could start crying right now, My poor poor little boy.

Ok, well that's it for now. And for all of you that don't know me.... this is one of my shorter posts ..... lol

So sorry to hear of your baby donkey FT... that is super sad.
Love the bee pictures and love the tidbits about them... we get ours this Friday or Saturday. I have someone from the areas bee society coming to help me install them and make sure they are set up ok.

Vic, I think we are some lucky people to have these pups, eh? Wow, one could only hope for such heroism!

FT- so sorry about your little chocolate boy! He must not have been too big if the mom wasn't showing, huh?

I've got 3 hatched (I believe the 3rd one is gonna be white, because it is very light yellow) and I've got another that is zipping. Can they go any slower? At this rate, I'll get an chick a day for the next 7 days! Geesh.
