Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

((ChickenScratch)) I remember as a teen threatening to move back to my dads so many times mom finally told me if I said it one more time she would buy me a ticket. That scared the heck of me of and was the end of that.

You are making me thankful my dad walked away and hardly contacted us. I would have loved to have a stepdad though...... my paternal grandparents acted like we did not exist once they moved to CA, and with my dad's PTSD from Vietnam we were better off with him leaving us alone. I remind my kids often how lucky they are to have their dad here and relatives that dote on them. Even having a step parent is better than not having anyone.

Anyway, three cakes and a coconut cream pie are finished. The pie is for our former neighbor, the one who had the pacemaker put in and had such difficulties after the surgery.

I am now putting up my feet before we head over to my sisters house for dinner. My legs are killing me! I was up at six to start making breakfast and I have hardly rested since!

BL: nice remodel!

Stacie: cute peepers. Hope you get many more good hatches.

All day rain and pretty chilly here. So happy we actually got to do so much already yesterday. Just regret that I had to leave all the duckies in their mess today instead of cleaning them out :( but putting in heat lamps for them was more important. Poor babies were all huddled in a corner. Of course I got soaked in the process...

At least I got to clean the inside babies, take care of the doggies who got a well overdue cuddle session, made 2 cakes to warm up the house a bit and took a nap in between.

So yes, I fully understand you BL. Got to sit down just now only too.

Have a good evening everyone as I get the marble cheesecake brownies outta the oven now! Hmmm...

I made stuffed portabella mushrooms for dinner tonight. Its amazing how filling they are. Also, I'm seriously considering ordering 6 silver barnevelders from Greenfire Farms. I've wanted them for so long. I'd just have to figure out housing for them, especially in the winter.

Hi All!

Had a friend come over and catch roosters today. We got all but 2 that flew next door. I got those at roost time. Now I only have 3 running loose. The girls should get some relief now! Pretty Boy (one of my favorite roos) was limping tonight, I'll have to check him good tomorrow.

Feeling a bit "off" today, going to try to hit the hay early.

Night All

Well the batch in the Hova-Foam home made bator is starting to hatch now, they are on day 20. The others were just early. So far I have 1 Lav Orp, I just threw some of her eggs in for a test run.

Plan to fix the diaphram on the push mower today so I can finally get the lawn mowed. It could nearly be baled its so long. Kids are going to Cornell to the pedal pulls today. The farm my son works at they do the pedal pulls all year and none of their grand kids will go help so now they've adopted my son to do all the pulling.

good morning, first cuppa is history ..

Mel, when you posted "where is everybody " this morning, most respectable people were still in bed.. I didn't get to bed until after 4AM..
I am still tired,, brain is mush ..

the hatching is quiet here.. I have some eggs due on the 9th.. they are guinea eggs, so I guess they will be starting today.. some always seem to come early ..

Stacy, maybe your heat is a little high ? but as long as the chicks are coming out normal, I wouldn't worry about early hatches..

I had a whole dozen not hatch from the dozen eggs I bought from Brokaw.. those are the ones that I mentioned that the shells were so thin.. maybe thin shells indicate poor quality, eh ?
My chickens' eggs have very thick shells, and the hatch rate is pretty high ..
Not a scientific fact,, just sayin' ..

afternoon all,

for a couple of days, I had a tray of eggs setting out to toss .. Annie set them outside and thought she heard chirping..
we quickly went through all the eggs and she found one that was pipped ..
I cracked the shell and just now put it back into the hatcher... time will tell..

all that is left in bator #1 are the 105 turkey eggs.. lock down on 6/18 due on 6/21

bator #2 has duck eggs lock down 6/13 due 6/16

I am still not recovered from my late night last night,, a nap is really in my near future..

had 15 chicks jump out of the brooder pen.. we chased them down and netted them.. they are already getting feathers and just about too fast for us old people to catch..
