Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Clark, hope gbaby feels better soon. And you have big sales on those chicks.
Cind, glad you know where the hens are hiding the eggs!
Miss, so not fair that yo u didn't bring the cupcakes our way!
nice to hear from you Frenchie. Enjoys all those babies!

Well, all of the chickies are dropped off at fair. It is worrisome for me to leave them! Kids show o. Friday late.morning. I am excited to see how it all goes :) I will keep you guys posted!

Spent a nice day visiting BigFam and her kiddos; yes the cupcakes were for her! I have pictures but not on the LT.

Since I was down there with my own brood, we took a side trip to Devil's Lake State Park. I wish I could have spent all day there! I would have loved to go hiking...... I suppose I should try out High Cliff first, that one is just on the other side of Appleton.

Such a nice day, but nice to be back home too.

You'll love it. They have some really great trails.

good morning,

FT, if you want those keets to grow up, put them into a chick tv immediately.

Cooties, did you put a padlock on your chicken cages at the fair ? at the Marathon County fair, people have been stealing chickens .. just sayin'..

Stacy, leave those guinea eggs alone,, candling does nothing to promote good hatches.. just let them go and see what you get at the end.. very seldom will you get a stinky ..

with this last batch of guinea eggs, I got 17 hatched and 9 that don't look like they are going to..

I have a batch of chicken eggs due in about 2 days,,

yesterday, I pumped great stuff all around the new door frame.. today I plan on getting the door stop built and the weather stripping installed.. I am not in a great hurry to trim out the door, but we will see.. I should re-do the pop door.,. I have it hinged at the top to swing up to open.. I don't really like that set up.. I want to make a guilletine type door with a pump like handle to raise and lower from outside the fence..

that coop is going to be so tight, not even a mouse will be able to get in or out ..

.......jiminwisc.......

Morning everybody!

Jim, mice will ALWAYS find a way in. You of all people (as the senior poultry guy) should know that!

FT, so cool that you got all those ducklings coming up everywhere! My Rouen just hatched some this past weekend (she had 4 by Monday) and I'm not quiet sure if I should take the babies and sell them this weekend or leave her to raise them for a bit...? After all, she is trying so hard to have some hatch! (This is her third or fourth clutch).

Stacie, hope Anellia is felling better soon and that you don't get sick too! Would suck to be sick on Saturdays swap. Am sure trying to get ready for the swap, just have not the slightest idea how to get all the ducklings and pheasants in our small car! Plus, I probably need to find some transport/show cages for the duckies. Might have to steal a kennel from my doggies to transport them... But then I REALLY have space issues as I can't put all the different pheasants together in one cage.

Of course SO's brother can't come to help since he got to head to UP for MIL's birthday, which means we gotta take care of ALL the critters by ourselves. Just some joys of having this many I guess...

Decisions to make for all these problems is, of course, all my job (yes Jim, the female has to do it all all the time, right? Oh, just think about not having water and Annie on strike. No cakes or coffees or warm meals... Don't you just love it ;)) And how on earth am I supposed to fit a setup table in that car too?!?!? Not the slightest clue...

Heading back to the farm today and can't wait to see my (not so small) babies again. Then trying to catch up and take care of everybody, make dinner etc. just one of the usual days I guess. Rant end.

Aw Jim, I hope never that doesn't happen! Even if I locked them, they are just wire set on wood. They could liftnit right up :/ what is the great stuff for the door?

We are down to 5 guinnies at the new place - 3 disappeared this spring and our white one was recently attacked and now has a bum foot. She seems to be doing well, back to picking on the rest of the flock, flying up to the roost and everything, but she has some broken toes. But I think I would like to increase our flock numbers a bit next spring. They do such a wonderful job of controlling pests, that DH wants to make sure we always have some around. This from the guy who wasn't so sure about guinnies and figured he would be eating them by now.
Is it best to get new hatched keets and raise them in a brooder out in the coop so the adults can see them, or raise them somewhere seperate and a little more temp controlled and just introduce them to the adults when they are old enough to go out? The guinnies have a coop building that we just open the door in the morning and let them wander all day, then at night, we shut the door to keep out the raccoon and skunks. No fence in that area at all.
If I will need to keep the keets in a completely seperate area, I will need to get any set-up planned and built this summer. Not going to wait and fight the weather next spring.

I should send my daughter over to play with the baby. She isn't vaccinated and I would love for her to get chicken pox so she doesn't have to deal with those vaccines.

Well my baby and mommas all seem to be integrated into the flock now. Now is the waiting game to see how many boys/girls. Supposedly I should be able to tell by now with the faverolles but out of 13 I have 5 that I am pretty sure are girls 4 that I am pretty sure are boys and 4 that i have no idea on.

Just had the cutest thing ever happen: My BLRW from Delish: I was holding her chicks and squatted down, Xanadu/mom kept lightly peckign at them till the settled down, then kept pecking at my leg and trying to jump up on my knee. I picked her up and I swear she nuzzled in and closed her eyes! She wanted to be held and there were no two ways about it! It was soooo cute! As soon as I put her down, she turned around and try to jump back up!

One other odd thing-I have "The Fosters" (Anyone watch this show?) two co parenting moms. One mom keeps doing the dropped wing dance to the other mom...weird! Anyone else ever see this? These two squish into 1 nestbox with their 4 chicks.

That picture of the dog inside that bowl is a hoot!!!!

too cute AB..and yes some hens drop wings to others to show dominance ..

Took a few pictures of the Easter grow outs today and some of the silver laced chicks
