Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Was a great day for the "to do list". Emergency add to the list taken care of......very large bee nest.
Couple of more productive days like this and I'll finish the 2012 to do list....and be starting 2013 list.

What are those 2 dark chicks? That one with the yellow face is super cute.
Both of the dark chicks are White Imported Orpingtons. They have a dark silver base.

Del, if you can arrange a chicken train up towards here, can you possibly throw in a couple of Toulouse for me? (Eyes batter)

Not sure where Yvette/BBP is located (wasn't that somewhere around Amery?) but I could probably do part of the trip. Maybe if cuties goes til Winter and I take it from there? Let me know...
Sorry I do not have ducks or geese..thank you for your offer to help for the geese though. I could add possibly another chick or two for your trouble. I have two mixed chicks I would be willing to part with for your help.

Nice door Jim!!! Want to come here for the projects Scott doesn't have time for?

Chciken show was fun and informational! Kids got quite a few blue ribbons. And Blake got reserve grand champion in the open class!!!! With pur Blue Sumatra hen

they are happy
Syd is a bit jealous that she did not get a trophy. But I explained that only two are given in that class and 1st place is almost as good.
Sadly this morning before our arrival some kids were cought picking on birds. And our Sumatra rooster badly dammaged his beak. It does not look good. He is already having that not feeling good look

we brought him home. And he is being kept in a pen. But I am worried. Does anyone have any recommendation for first aid? Everyone at the show suggests just keep him on electrolytes and watch to see that he eats. It is broke across more than half of his beak. It is close to the nostrils. And top claer through to the bottom. I did see him eat twice today. But he can not even fully close his beak. He is our only roo, and I do not have chicks growing out from them.

You can use dental forming cream or super glue if it is cracked. Just be careful not to get it on anything but the outside.

Hi All!

Cuties... sorry about the roo. Without seeing it hard to say, but I would try the super glue. Just don't drop it right on the beak, use a toothpick or something.

Nothing new, Jasmine should hatch some chicks within the next couple days
fl.gif
then Storky in a few more days!

Night All!
great suggestion about the toothpick

My chicks are now 3 wks old. This morning, I heard one sound gurgly and several are sneezing. What would you do? Treat with Tylan 50 for respirtory? Give it a day or two and see if it improves or gets worse? They seem energetic and no one is acting sick at all
place a chick to your ear and listen. Sometimes it is just what Jim said and it is just dust. if it is mold or dust your best bet is Oxine.I would not use antibiotics unless you are sure it is an infection. If breathing is not compromised or labored just the Oxine should do the trick in a few days. You can even use a vaporizer.

Great ideas thanks! I think I will spray down the coop in the morning, see how they are by tomorrow night and if they are worse, then treat them with either Durimycin-10 or Tylan 50 water soluble.

BBP: I can mix up partial batch of the Oxine right? Do you need any for anything?

Meghann turned 15 yesterday-day at Mall of America yesterday and whole fam-damily over tonight! :)

, tomorrow is the last day of fair for the kids, they all did very well with their projects. DD and DS(9) had 14 rabbits to show between them- 6 French Angora and 8 Cali, 3 turkeys and 6 chickens plus all the non-animal projects. Full load coming home.

Hey alll :)
thank you for all of the advise for Fabio the rooster. He is doing well! Even danci g :) fingers crossed. I did not yet see him eat. But only watched him for about two minutes today. As we have been gone si ce 6 am.
We had the dog show today. And the kids were amazing! I am a very proud trainer. Long weekend for sure.
Happy nbdaynto Meghann. And sorry about those chicks. Hope they clear up quickly. Good ideanon the acv. Ours choose to drink mostly from the dish with it added.
Good job at the fair hens and roos!

Evening all.

5K today with best-friend and all of our kiddos. Then DD11 and I got a mani/pedi together and went shopping for swim suits and groceries at Woodman's. We won free passes to the local pool, hence the need for suits. Nathan & DS10 went to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (glad I didn't have to go to that one).

Chickens and the rest of the critters are well. We've got the visiting parakeet, T-Rex, again for 2 weeks. Her owner is on a dino dig in Montana.

My god-daughter is spending the night and they made their own bagel pizzas. Now they are making Reese's cookies.

Garden is huge and producing well. Squash and beans are plentiful now.

That's all folks!

Glad to hear about your roo doing better! Its so stressful when we try so hard and things go wrong!
Thanks for the BDay wishes for Meghann! Talked to Dawg53 who sent me to an interesting article on Oxine (http://www.shagbarkbantams.com/oxine.htm for those interested) if its mold related. I used my asthma nebulizer and misted the chicks with Oxine tonight, crossing my fingers with this and tomorrow I plan on spraying or misting down the coop somehow. Its going to be such a mucky nasty mess in there if I get it too wet but I cant imagine hand spraying every surface....have to see how this goes.

I use a 2 gallon garden "pump" sprayer,,,find one on sale for under $20 keep it clean it will last for years. I have done my big coop 12'X24' in less than 30 minutes, roosts, boxes, walls, ceilings and with about 2 gallons of material. Getting the whole thing cleaned/prepped takes the time,,,,,
