No she wasn't.. we skipped about half of them.. she should have hid a few weeks ago ..

maybe she doesn't like being PG< but the little tramp likes what causes it ..

Well took Rudy into the vet yesterday thinking they were for sure going to tell me I had to put him down. After the gun shot he's just been losing so much weight and was down to 24 lbs from about 40 and was eating like a horse also drinking and gaining nothing. Had switched him to raw meat by advice from my SIL who was a vet tech at Amery vet last year and I thought she knew what she was doing since this happened. Well Saturday his eyes clouded over and he was blind. I had to take him in, told my hubby that I couldnt' rely on his sister anymore for advice. They did a blood draw and he's now diabetic. He's on insulin 2 times a day and seems to be working as he's more chipper. Still drinking alot but they said it could take a week or so for him to adjust. I was exstatic to find out I didn't have to put him down. Said that it could of either been caused from the bullet hitting his pancreas or the abdomen swelling from the wound and causing pressure on the pancreas. Either way he's on the road to recovery hopefully. His liver functions were down but they hope it will regulate now with the insulin.

Just set 9 dozen more eggs, 5 are my layer/meat chicks that everyones been begging me for and swore I wouldn't do anymore until after January but have to keep the people happy right?! I can't wait until my new BLRW start laying, I can see 2 pullets are starting to get darker combs so hope it to be soon. I will be selling my BLRW roo Tyler won blue ribbons at the fair with and possibly 2 hens if anyone is interested. I'm downsizing before winter and still have to get the new coop started among many other projects before snow falls.

Spent the day trying to get the front deck finished. I have all but the railing to do yet, hope to have that done tomorrow. Then on to finish the new garage and then the coop. It's so hard to try and do this by myself I've thought of getting one of my friends sons to come over and pay him to work for me to get it all done.

Sorry you can't find your dog Jim, hope she comes home soon.

jim your story is super sweet! is one of the things my hubby and myself do a lot, or did prior to 3 little kids... horse riding. we'd go camping with them all the time and trained our own. members of our local saddle club and just trail rode everywhere. getting the kids into it now. time permitting.... cripes where does that go??? (time...) we finally took the horses camping again this spring, first time since I was pregant with my 6 year old! Was my surprise gift to my husband for his 40th, extended weekend camping with the horses and no kids...

my little silkies (5 hens left only 3 are old enough to lay) are laying like nuts, I didn't think silkies laid that much but the girls are giving me each an egg a day. I am VERY tempted to break out my incubator just to see if any are fertile cuz the rooster sure seems to be busy and odds are with a 3/1 ratio that they should be.... then I will be hatching again this late! but just read the prior post about setting more.... perhaps none are fertile anyhow...

open house for my big guy tonight! going into first grade this year!

boy times flies.... go and meet the teacher and put his supplies in his desk.


and woohoo to the other maremmas running off for 3 weeks! when she comes trotting back with puppies take pictures....

Annie talked to the breeder who had Dora today,, she confirmed that those dogs sneak away to have their pups..
she said that they just lay with them and don't break away much to eat or drink.

Annie notified the nearest neighbors to be on the look out..

I am selling 2 laying hens tomorrow.. the guy is bringing back a Delaware that he thinks is a rooster. I told him that if any are roosters that I would exchange them..

hi all, question, friend has a couple cochins she'd like to give us, I would just like the hen, she wants to give them as a pair only, does this make a difference besides the chicken integrating with a buddy? I really don't want another rooster as my numbers are down so low already.....

also neighbor town has a big labor day celebration this weekend with a kids "chicken chase" I know Kody, my oldest (6 1/2) would be good at it and get a kick out of it, but worried what type of chickens are in it and what i'd be bringing home to my coop.... any thoughts or ideas? they also have a "greased pig competition" but thinking my boys are still too little.... lol. yeah, it all sounds pretty wild, I can see my kids going nuts though, but thinking the pig would just mow them over....

jim that is good news! so do they just come trotting back at a certain time with puppies in tow? is annie holding out hope now?

also I MUST unload my geese, my poopinators.... ugh, all they do is sit on my deck and crap! I shovel goose crap daily.... I drive home from work and all three are sitting literally right in front of my front door. it would be commical (and kind of is....) if I didn't have all this CRAP! my deck is open, only fence around the portion over the below patio so no real way to keep the stinkers off. anyone interested in some very friendly poopers? my husband won't let me name them "thanksgiving, christmas, and easter"

Kv, I would say just be sure to have the kiddos wear shoul es that they will never wear around your birds. And be sure that all clothes and body parts are washed before being around the chickies.
As far as the cochin roo, it would be good for the hen to have a bussy to help her with the transition to a new flock. And I also sell in only pairs unless I habe extra hens. So you could always consider rehoming thr roo. Or some would just eat him. Guess it depends what works best for you. If he is lf cochin, be sure he does not want to get on the silkiesm he would likely injure them. Our silkie roo does not aloow anyone else to breed his girls. So I don't worry.

only problem is they keep whatever chickens they catch in the chase, so I know Kody will want to bring them home.... this is my big worry... taking the actual bird home...

I don't think my silkie roo would let him near them, but dont' want roo fights either, was planning on hatching some next spring anyhow, so might just wait. this darn chicken chase is stressing me out! Iknow the kids wanna go, but do I wanna bring these strange birds home??? odds that they will be chasing silkies is slim to none... lol

woohoo on a 3 day weekend! I work tomorrow till noon, so not too bad, then a wedding reception for some friends of ours is private wedding at their folks farm and they have one of those barns that is all fixed up neat, so reception in there, should be a good wet time.

what does the pair selling do? just to unload a roo or to make the transition easier or a little of both? I've only unloaded roos so far... so this is new to me.
