Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all. I'm guilty of just reading too. Between planning for a new house, firewood, garden and birds there hasn't been much energy left for posting.

I'm sad to say I can't make the show this weekend...I was really looking forward to meeting some of you. The dark Brahmas I was going to get will be picked up at the show in Columbus, and I just bought an entire flock of gold Brahmas so I need to make room for them this weekend. Will be building/modifying pens and coops and culling my current flock. I still have a couple mixed (light/dark) Brahma pullets, two project cockerels and some nice, young barred Plymouth Rocks (laying pullets and cockerels) from show lines that I'd like to see go to good homes. If anyone here is interested let me know or they will go to the next swap.

Ran the last of the tomatoes through the food mill last night and thinking about making ketchup today. I tried a new tomato this summer that I think is a winner....Cordova. No disease in the plants, no blossom end rot, they set tons of fruit and make the thickest sauce I've ever seen. Really good for salsa too. The only disadvantage to them is it's a hybrid but worth buying the seeds each year I think.

Need to get my canning stuff together...

Hope you all have a great time at the show!

good morning, I am waiting for someone to show up to buy some chickens.
I forgot to ask what time she was coming ,, I have all the birds locked up in the mean time.

Cind, I like the octagon one,,
how are you going to keep those stoppers in during shipping ??

Baby Huey is limping a bit.. we will try to catch him to see what his problem is..

no cuppa yet this morning,,

I found that if you scoop the seeds and that jelly type stuff out of the inside of the tomato, they thicken much faster .. no sense trying to evaporate all that excess liquid ..

Who is baby Huey?
he is our gander goose,, he was huge when he hatched, like baby Huey in the comic book..

I sold the rest of my chickens (8) and the rooster, too.. all I have left are the very young chicks.. they should be big enough to butcher by Thanksgiving .. I think there are only 7 of them,, there are about 10 really small guineas hanging with them..

It sure is quiet out there..

the new goose was accepted right away by the pair of geese this morning,,

I made it,, One Tommy, 3 geese and a colored rooster..

now all I have to do is get rid of about 35 guineas ..

Jim- I think that you are turning over a new leaf. You are naming everything now instead of the animal going years as "no name" LOL

No roos wanted here!!!!

Found out yesterday that the high school coach came to my daughters middle school game and recruited her for the high school team! Hopefully, this will encourage her to stay here for high school as she has stated that she wants to move to Maryland to be with her dad.
