Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

what breeds do you have ?
some of the heavies , easter eggers, will probably not lay ,,

If you have buff orpingtons, rhode island reds , barred rocks and leghorns,, they might..

this by no means guarantees that any of the above will work..

I found that if you play with lighting, and supply a little heat, you might get them to lay..

If they use only the feed to keep them warm, then your egg production suffers ..

IMHO

I read that book too and there are so many exceptions to every rule. I have a few that are around 25 weeks that just aren't ready yet. With my first batch some started at 23 weeks which ended up in mid October, but a few waited until mid-Winter.

As long as they have a safe environment, fresh water, fresh feed, and clean nest boxes they'll be alright to wait and they'll be alright if you decide to add light. Good luck :)

Thank you both for the feedback. My EEs continue to mature. Even just today I noticed my white EE, Marshmallow, getting very red in the face. Maybe eggs before winter!

Not so great photo of my new doggy, Precious. She's a black n tan 4yr old female cocker spaniel.

I don't have the motivation. Lol. I'm kind of upset because there was a kid that wanted to join and at the meeting when his dad found out there was a commitment for all parents he pulled the kid into the other room. The kid came back and said his dad couldn't volunteer because he was too busy. He then convinced the kid that because he was in special ed he wouldn't be a good team member! Basically dad didn't want the hassle of bringing the kid to practice and he was worried that he'd actually have to put forth some time and a little effort. I think the boy has a lot to offer and it would be a good experience for him. Selfish Patents like that are really disappointing :(

That is definitely a sad situation! That kid might forever define himself by being "special ed" and "having nothing to contribute". Our kids are in many things and we always participate as much as we can, but we both work full time and run around to scouts, soccer 7 days a week, book clubs, library events, etc. Fortunately, our DI is run by the school teachers directly after school, but I've spoken with a dad that did the same as you have and he told me about how much time he had into it, but that he felt really rewarded by the whole experience. I hope that you will say the same at this time next year! Let's just hope that the kid will rise above the stupidity of his parents.

I need someone to talk some sense into me................

I currently have 23 hens of various breeds, a lav orp roo, and 3 pullet/9 cockerel salmon faverolles (planning on re homing 7-8 of the boys eventually) that I want to start breeding in the spring. NOW found a trio of great quality SF for a great price and I am sooo tempted !!! I've to build/wire the bachelor pad...and this would mean wire/build coop in the barn asap!!! I managed to re home 1 cockerel so far....and am trying to balance growing the boys out to see quality versus re homing some before winter....Otherwise I will have to over winter this many in a separate pen.

In other news...thinking its time to start looking for another job! Love the environment but the hour plus drive each way is killing me, workloads been heavy and found out today they are reallocating 50% of the time the other person who assists me with supporting my area for another project. It has felt like it should be Friday since about 10 am Monday morning
Sorry for typos...have a virus on laptop and takes forver to post

Greetings everyone. Wow I don't k of where to start. I tried to do some catching up last night but didn't get to far. Plus with all of the new folks I'm lost.....
Been busy with our POA that managed to lodge a nail in her hoof last week. Called the vet and got list of supplies. Headed to FleetFarm and Walmart for supplies. Antibiotics, vet wrap, duct tape, syringes, needles, iodine, sugar and diapers...... worst part is 20 cc of penicillin twice a day. Plus only 10 cc in one spot equals 4 shots a day! I almost couldn't do it after I gave her a shot in each cheek the second day! It was so sad to see her almost sit down and shake. It broke my heart not to mention she is a kicker. Quick learner so that was the first and last shots in the buttocks. Vet said 3 days 5 would be best! We just finished the last shot today. Still wearing the diaper to keep it clean. She has been great about soaking and bandaging. Keep her busy with treats helps.
Anyway ET bought two huge bags of cranberries for .99 lb so I used the steamer and got about 2 gallons of very strong juice.
For those of you that tried my apple pie shots at the bash what do you all think of cranberry shots? What spices would you add? How about cranapple shots?
On the chicken front.... what gives? Why is it that if you lose any chickens you lose one of each breed?
I had a pair of California Leghorns and found the rooster dead. PLUS my lavender Ameraucana hen was found dead too! She was a $112 chicken....paid for 18 eggs and the guy only sent me 6! Two hatched and the weak on died. This was a few years ago and he promised to send the rest! Never did get them. I was going to breed her with.my lavender oops for lavender EE but never got around to it because they were in different coops. Oh well you snooze you loose!
Never a dull moment up here ! Anyone watch the news last week?
I'll just leave it at that! To long of a story! LOL
Still have tons of ducks even after my GP go a few. :(
