Yup Jim you are correct. 99% of the time, cats are taught their hunting skills by their mothers. Occasionally you will have a cat that figures it out on their own, but the best are taught. Mom brings home live prey and teaches the babies the kill bite. Our 4 siblings were idiots when it came to hunting....... they had no idea what they should be doing with those fuzzy rodents. Watching them was good enough for them. These two new kitties I have no doubt they would be able to catch and kill whatever they wanted to. They spent much more time with their mothers and their mothers were very good hunters.
Sorry to hear about the pup, but better it goes now than later.
Terri, Ginger cookie recipe! I never frost these cookies, they are good enough without the extra sugar. I included the frosting for anyone who would like to give it a go.
Frosted Ginger Cookies
1 1⁄2 c butter
1 c sugar
1 c packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1⁄2 c molasses
2 t vanilla
4 1⁄2 c flour
1 T ground ginger
2 t baking soda
2 t ground cinnamon
1⁄2 t salt
1⁄2 t ground cloves
Mix together, drop by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets and bake
at 325* for 12-15 min. Cool on racks.
1/3 c packed brown sugar
2 c powdered sugar
2 T butter
1⁄4 c milk
1⁄2 t vanilla or caramel flavoring
Pinch salt
Bring sugars and butter to boil, boil one minute stirring constantly. Stir in milk, bring to a
boil. Remove from heat (mix will look curdled). Cool for 3 minutes. Add vanilla and salt;
mix well. Frost warm cookies.
Makes about 6 doz.
