Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Phew. Just back from our annual vacation in Door County. Had a friend's teenager watching the chickens for us -- they seem good.

I did find three wonky eggs under the roosts -- looks like one tiny rubber egg, a full size rubber egg, and a deflated one (like it popped). A couple of my hens are just barely starting to lay, so I'm under the assumption that this is normal and she/they will figure it out...?
eggs like that are not too uncommon,, it might be due to a lack of calcium.
try putting some oyster shells out for them to pick at free choice..
It works well to fill the bottom of your pan feeder.. they will eat the feed and pick up the shells when they feel like it.. the shells will last a long time, so don't be concerned if you don't think they are not eating them,, .

They have calcium and grit out for free feed, and I'm getting normal eggs. We'll see if it continues.

Summer Fish Fry Friday again already. Where does the time go? Nice to cook outside again and will be tasty with the fresh broccoli salad on the side.

Plenty of sunshine today...the maters are soaking it up today for sure.

Stay Cool... bigz

Hot day to clean the coop, but the girls appreciate it. Put out some ash for them to dustbathe in, and gave them some frozen watermelon to help them stay cool.

We had a fabulous time in Door County, but I thought it was hilarious -- we drive 3.5 hours to vacation and what do my kids find? Chickens.

Hope everyone else had a great week, too. Brined porkchops for us tonight.
