Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well it's fair time again for Tyler and this year we entered 26 birds. No clue what we were thinking. Judging was yesterday so here are some photos to share. My SS pullet/cock weren't grown enough but since the only entries they still give them blues, besides all of my birds are starting to molt.

A friend of ours has a ton of mini's there and give Anellia a ride.

stacy, congrats..

It is finally raining here,, nice gentle steady rain.. the kind that soaks into the ground..
we are done picking beans,, 58 packages of yellow and green beans in the freezer..

the corn is forming ears right now.. the rain should help that along..

I planted the bean rows 32 inches apart.. Annie kept saying how difficult it was to go down the row.
the plants filled the space between the rows.. all I used was composted chicken schitz ..

going to get 6 bags of corn and oats for the meaties today.. hoping this will be the last time I have to buy feed..

had only two of them go lame so far.. I am afraid if we keep them too long, there will be more..

Congratulations! Sounds like you did really well.

Good job Stacy!
Even tho I am on vaca, I am working super hard here. The barn has never been so clean!
the house is supposed to have overhaul today. ..... but
...... maybe tomorrow ;)
agreed on the advice about how to cut that leg band. However, be sure the neo is non medicated. I recommend bacitracin (sp) as the first go to for pets :)
Jim is the hatch king around here. I set my bator to his specs when I first got it. And have not touched it since. And we have a great hatch rate around here :)

@Celtic Chick
Thanks yeah I'm open to just about any breed or mix but DH2B doesn't care for polish then again I could sell them I'm sure. Basically I love many breeds but of course there are a few I like better even so far among our mixed flock. Our Orpingtons are wonderful we love our porcelain d'uccle roo and I love our isa browns. But mostly we're looking for heritage breeds or mixes that could be dual purpose if they don't sell so we don't end up overun with roos. If anyone has eggs they would be willing to give away or sell cheap I would love an appreciate it all I care is the parents are healthy as possible and if aggressive as I've heard this can be passed on. I would also be open to some bantam eggs particularly silkie cochin or other friendly breeds as I believe we are headed for a mixed bantam coop bc we don't want to get rid of our d'uccle, Blue, or our American game bantam, Nugget. And we don't really want them trying to breed the egg layers. We do have one silver Laced wyandottes cockeral, Twitch that I don't want to get rid of but idk what to do with him as far as the egg layers and I don't want to lock him up. He's not crowing yet but he shows no aggression and he's even below most if not all of the girls on the pecking order. He is friendly once you catch him and talks to you but he runs when you try.

Okay so eggs I would be super interested in especially if free: I'm sorry if that is inappropriate to ask and I could probably pay a little for some but our budget is very tight as we're trying to save for a wedding in the future. And be frugal about the chickens.
Orpingtons especially lavender bbs and perhaps others. (Other than one pullet our orps are some of our nicest birds)
Wyandottes I would be interested in some mostly Blrw but I also would like other colors
Aurucaunas, ameracaunas, and ee. I love our four Ameracauna EE girls and I'm so excited to see their first eggs I hope they're colored
Cream legbars or really anything autosexing would be wonderful
Silkies
Cochin bantam and of
Like I said I'm open to just about anything. We also have one self blue old English pullet we got as a bonus egg with the silkies we hatched out and adore her I would love some more self blues or maybe bbs idk much about genetics so idk what if anything else I could breed her with. And any of the bantam breeds I mentioned would be awesome. We also have a gold laced sebright pullet we adore

@Sclark73
Beautiful birds unfortunately you just reminded me that I made my list of birds I'm interested in way to short lol. I also love speckled Sussex and my DH2B had wanted buckeyes all spring but we couldn't find any around here. And hedamora's are a breed I think I would like to get into. Gosh there are so many many breed how does anyone choose? Lol mostly this year we had planned on trying a bunch out and then going from there to decide on some that are our favorites. Mostly though I am just interested in anything that you guys think is good for a beginner and can be tamed again sorry to be a broken record but we want nothing aggressive we're not afraid to send something to freezer camp of it needs to be but we do have nieces and nephews that are very little(18months) and up. Obviously we never have children around the chickens unattended particularly small children but you all know how fast things can happen. As it is we are on the verge of having to put an end to a rooster that has been unpredictable with us even I'm not sure as he's a hatchery bird but I think he may be a very awful golden Laced sebright though he looks more red laced and is not hen feathered. As a chick he also didn't look like a sebright but he was the sweetest chick there has been such a change in him. Could this be because he's the top roo? Is there a chance a different home perhaps with mature large fowl roos would turn him around?

Million Dollar Rain Fish Fry Friday! The gardens are loving this all day rain here.

Congrats Stacy on the ribbons....makes it all worth the effort, eh!

Reduced to piling wood in the basement today, to make room for throwing more in....best to be prepared.

Baked fish tonight, so I'm off the hook for cooking.

Have Fun.....bigz

@Sclark73 : Gorgeous birds!!! Love the speckled Sussex blue... Handsome boy!!

Momgille, when I bought that flock last fall there were four males with badly embedded bands. I cut them out, packed the wounds with Neosporin and within a week they were all better. When I first saw them I was horrified but there was very little blood loss during the procedure and by just cutting the band and pulling with firm pressure they came right out. I hope you can catch all her birds with bands and remove them. Good luck!

On a happier note...I have chicks hatching today! So far I have one buff Brahma and one partridge. Will be setting dark Brahma eggs tomorrow but still looking for some good lights to hatch. If you all know of anyone with light Brahma hatching eggs for sale please let me know.
Well apparently I shamed the neighbor into doing the right thing herself before hell froze over. My son and his girlfriend came for supper when they left I had a text that she had removed the bands and there was very little blood and little pus. Said it reminded her of a pierced ear. Still just makes me wanna slap people... what are they thinking? Those plastic bands are just going to evaporate? It was so hard to watch that poor bird try and walk, but I saw her free ranging and she seems already better, like she puts her foot down and goes, hmmm this doesnt hurt like it used to.
It may be Friday Fish fry night but its pizza and no dishes here take care all and have a good weekend!
SClark that grandbaby is so big, just makes me smile seeing her, you have been through a ton nice to hear all is going well!
