It was sitting near the cookstove. Maybe that's a clue? I thought for sure you guys would know.

Is it possibly some sort of water heater? Collecting heat from the stove to warm up the water.

It appears that it lifts out of a pan at the bottom. No handles on it so it must not be heavy.. can it be something for proofing bread dough ??

Juicer...cook the fruit down and drain the juice off for jelly or wine or fresh juice...is my guess... LOL
