Barn really getting coated with asian beetles, Imagine the they will eventually freeze and die. Chickens will have a field day.
They are bad this year.

I don''t think they die from freezing.
they just go dormant. Or do they lay
their eggs in the fall ? IDK.
so far we don't have many. but we are
farther north.

Well they get in and come spring some are flying around looking for a way out. Most seem to be dead on the floor, but too many are flying around.

Good afternoon! Would anyone in the Northern WI area be interested in this little guy? I believe he’s a white Muscovy. Someone found him in the road with no sign of where he came from so he ended up at our little farm. I’d love it if someone could take him in with their existing flock since we have no other ducks.

If you end up keeping that muscovy. they do OK with
cold weather but they do not do well on frozen ground.
unlike geese and true ducks, they do not pull their feet
up into their feathers to keep them warm. they just lay
down with their feet on the ground. that is why you see
so many muscovys with club feet from getting them frozen.
when I had muscovys, I put a foot deep of straw in their pen.
I am not set up for any animals any more.

Thank you! That information is very helpful. We used to have geese but waterfowl aren’t my preferred farm critters. It’s snowing up in the Three Lakes area this morning.

We had some stuff that looked like snow falling over here. Im not ready for the snow yet.

Had graupel couple days ago. Did not know what graupel was till couple days ago I called it sleet. Snowed briefly yesterday.
Took 17 chickens to the Amish. Was going to take more, daughter was getting teary eyed.
More manageable now down to 15 hens and 2 roosters.
Hens are happy got rid of the young roosters.

grauble ? I assume that is rain with a little snow mixed in.
that's what we had all day yesterday. and then after dark,
it froze on the car.
We went to a very rural tavern for a fish fry. the place
is open only on Friday from 2 to midnight.
we had bluegill. it was very good. I never had
bluegill in a restaurant before. bluegill is my favorite
fish to eat, perch is a close second.
I figure going out for fish is not a bad deal.
If you figure your license, driving to somewhere,
and spending most of a day , and not a guarantee
of a meal. you never get skunked at the restaurant. lol
I got the gasket on the stove door. today I will install
the door and try lighting a fire. this is a different stove
that nephew Dan gave to me. I never used it, yet.
I hope it works well.
since I don't want to go outside, I am thinking of
trying a new recipe, to me, for cinnamon squares.
like cinnamon rolls, except you roll the dough and fold
it a couple of times, then cut out squares. saw it on
Magnolia kitchen. looked it up online.

We might have gotten graupel i didnt know what that was till now. The chickens are back to not laying again.
