Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

There's seems to be some misunderstanding about what I said, I guess about telling if it's a boy or girl, by the length of nausea that one endorse during pregnancy.

That's this statement.....

Don't see what I said that offended anyone. Maybe people need to re-read what was posted. I appoligize if I offended anyone.

Just old wives' tales.

Wow! gone for a day and I have 3 pages to read! DrH--the weatherman has been forcasting rain here for 3 days--NOTHING! I have dried all my clothing on the line just tempting fate...my plants NEED watering! I am too lazy to get the hoses connected...
Saved a little hatchling today...I went into the coop and one that was hatching yesterday was on the floor cold and eyes closed! Of course it was the darkest brownest egg that I was just waiting for! I popped it into the place that I had the puppy on a heating pad and left to do my whole day. When I got home it was awake and peeping so I took it out to the coop and put it under the Mom hen--it worked! She just snuggled down on top of it. So now my late broody has 4 babies (one was lost) and the remaining egg is under another hen that is "sometimes" reliable. I didnt want to crack it for fear that there was a live being in there! I will get a pic of the new ones tomorrow...they are so cute!
Gothchick--that is one crazy ordinance! Makes me dizzy just to read it! When I had chickens in Oconomowoc I went to the city attorney and got a variance. Maybe you can do something like that? He said, "and I suppose you are going to tell me that these chickens are pets?" I said , "No, but I have pictures!" I had the cutest pic of my 3 year old eating cheerios with a hen for company! And one of her hugging her "Henny Penny!" I seriously doubt if you would get in trouble if you had hens in a coop outside if your neighbors didnt complain...fresh eggs do wonders! SHARE!
BL4--are you looking for The Cake Bible? I thought I read something like that...I have a copy that I got from book of the month club...wondering...
Fordmommy--I dont believe that either...I have 3 kids and all my pregnancies were different...I should have three different kinds of kids right?
smile.png
Raiquee--get an ultrasound and then if the baby id cooperating you will know what it is...IF you want to know--I always liked the surprise factor. Got me through labor thinking about, "what will it be?"
Beef barley soup for dinner--with refrigerator clean-out veggies...Wednesday is soup day! Have a great night everyone! I am typed out! Terri O

Wet Morning All! Don't know what time the storm came through but it was a good one. TO Glad you found the chick in time! Makes you feel good huh?

GC that might be a pretty old ordinance. A lot of us are breakin or bending the law in one way or another. Think I'd go through channels and see what happens. Course forget to mention the other pets. Their not able to escape into the neighborhood so I don't see where there is a problem. If you run into a brick wall get a petion going to change the laws, go to meetings and present your case. Hope you can have chickens! Bec have a guard cat but his shift is 4 till I get up in the summer and with his advancing age doesn't work outside below 35*. Rhumatiz ya know.

Woke up feeling creative this morning. Look out! Will get the brooder box modified and the table frame built but still feel like there's something brewing inside my head.

Going to keep all chickens locked up for a few days and see if the wyandottes are laying and to see if it will lure in Mr/Mrs fox.

Doc H I saw that big blob of red, orange, green and yellow crossing the northern part of the state last night on the radar, so you must have gotten soaked. We thought we'd get some splashes but nothing, just gray, colder and windy today.

The past three days were lovely, I guess....I saw them on my back from a hospital bed. I developed some severe blood pressure issues over the weekend and by Monday afternoon I had trouble seeing, walking or thinking (well, that's business as usual)...so Mom put a gun to my head and made me go to the doctor, who called an ambulance, who transported me to hospital. After a couple of trying days the medicine seems to be working and I'm back at the chicken ranch.

In the meantime, Mom came back to the hospital Tuesday night with bad news, seems our little GLW was missing and not to be found. As soon as I was released yesterday I went checking and found what was left of her in the ravine next to the coop. Dang it! I really liked that little thing, she had spunk and was always into something. She tended to wander away from the other chickens, however, and that may have been her demise. There was scat and some tracks right next to her remains, looks like a big fox or a small coyote. We're going to be restricting the other chickens access to the yard now, and I've got to rethink the whole free range thing with all the predators around. It's getting expensive and now I'm down to 13 birds from 25. I'm chomping at the bit to add some birds but Mom is not on board.

WOW BBCB stop being a BBCB and go to the dang Dr. Not me of course

Glad you got it figured out and are back on track. I was just wondering about ya. That Blob left 1 1/2" in the gauge. Sorry to hear about your GLW, know what you mean about ?ing the free range. L mentioned this morning something I already had running through my head. Keep them fenced in and build a bigger run. Something to ponder this winter. If I built it big enough I could section it off for the grass to grow back. Wait wait wait it's not winter yet. Everyone is PO'd about being jailed today except for B she's just fine with it.

OK you know I'm lying! Man she's mad! Good nieghbor Donny stopped over and even he said what the H is wrong with her. I told him her name. He said I think ya got that one right! A doe is feeding her way out of the woods to get at the clover in the yard right now. He took what is going to be the last of the beans. I'm tearing them out, their getting seedy looking. I grew pole beans and learned last year not to wait till their dead to remove the vines from the hog wire. You could lash a raft together with them. Pea and Btwo really like their new windows! Had them outside for maybe 20 minutes while I cut and screened the holes. They went right under the lamp. Their waterer was in the way and I stuck my face by one of the new holes and said Peatwo twice and he stuck his head around it cocked to one side. Broke out laughing! Better get some lunch.

Hey guys

Well went into class today to do my exam, and see about the practical. As I figured she yelled at me for not calling her, and maybe we coulda worked something out.
roll.png
This is the lady who NEVER answers her phone!! I've called her and called her, and waited for calls back and never got them!! I'm sorry the day I don't get out of bed, the first thing I don't think about is calling the lady that never calls me back!

So, the students were finishing up day 4 of the practical (oh yeah, our practical runs 4 days. If you get sick your screwed is pretty much what was explained to me.) and I only had my plates from the first patient. Luckily they chucked them in the fridge and I had a half an hour to do what I could. She said "Maybe you can get your gram stain done" I did colonial morph, gram stained, identified, catalase tested, and did a latex test to in turn, identified out my bug. I finished my practical in 40 minutes!! Shows what your able to do when you want the grade!! Shes not sure about the other specimen, if I can make it up. I go in tomorrow just to look at my plates at 48 hours and say nothing else is growing.

As far as the pregnancy goes, eh it seems ok. DH got me these "Sea-bands" they are wrist bands that apply pressure to the pressure points in your wrists that help reduce nausea. I gotta say, they work! My nausea isn't completely gone, but it is GREATLY reduced. These things is what allowed me to eat so early yesterday. I got a phone interview with a nurse to update my family history before I can even get in there to have an appt! How frustrating.

TO) I will have an ultrasound!! What had me get through labor was, D^&% this hurts!!! hahaha. I didn't have any pain meds, my first one was natural. I was sick at the end and crazy things happened with my platelets that I couldn't get an epideral because they were afraid i'd bleed into my spine. You could only image the look on my face...

Well off to take a shower, then wash the "sick" bedding, and pick up the munchkin!

I've been hummin' and hoein' on what to do for a heated waterer for my chickens this year. Last year I had a heated dog bowl and it worked great. But that was for 15 chickens and I had to fill it in the morning AND at night seeing that it's only one gallon.

So I've been looking online. Not pleased with what I was finding. I find plastic ones that are 3 gallons but the plug in is really weird and I've read A LOT of complaints on it. This is what it looks like.

http://www.google.com/products/cata...og_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCkQ8wIwAA#

So I thought maybe I'd just end up getting the metal heater base with the galvanized waterer for the top. But those are very expensive and sold seperately AND I really do care for the metal dishes to start with. Waterer $35 and base $43 are the average prices.

Well- I just went to Fleet Farm and guess what! They carry the brand new verson of the plastic one. Guess enough people complained about it or something. Anyway....they changed how it gets plugged in. Now it has a 8"-10" inch cord on it and THEN you plug it in with a extension cord.

I looked for a pic online to show you all, but couldn't even find one. AND the price....$33.00 for a 3 gallon. WOW! Just filled it....I like it!

Oh! AND the base heater only good for 10* and this one is good to 0*.

We have the one that FM posted a link to-it worked well this past winter, we just ran an extension cord through the wire and plugged it in. Of course we just checked on the waterer several times a day especially when cold.

BBCB- glad to hear that you are starting to feel better!

DrH-sorry for your loss!

Evening to All... Sorry about the losses....yep part of taking the free range risk for the flock, and a price I'm willing to risk for their freedom. The way the flock is truly happy. I lost one buckeye to a hawk the other day. My flock is still gonna be free. I'm also a look out....sometimes they win...mostly not though here.
BBCB...nothing but the best wishes for you....relax take a breath...you have everything going good. Don't worry about things you can't control...been there, aint goin back either. Easy does it...one day at a time! You are in my prayers...for sure!
The harvest continues here....picked all the cantalope today, and another pail of broccoli today. Down to winter squash, carrots, beets, deer, and red grain amaranth....
Jim offered all the sweet I needed....bad timing when me and suzie were husking 12 doz....I know you know he's the best...

Have Fun...Be Safe... ~ bigzio
