BL4 your welcome anytime! This mornings feast will be eggs cooked to order with a side of well fed bacon and a choice of cin/raisin or texas toast. Have been thinking of making pies. Today will be thinking of things to take up north we're going rain or shine on Friday. Tonight we're heading to Wausau to see John Prine play.

Good morning! Today I am supposed to pick up dd18 at the University with the horses and we are going riding at Walking Iron Park in Maizo. The storm on the radar looks like it will go North and it was plenty sunny here at 7:30...now I am having second thoughts as it is rapidly getting cloudy...not sure what to do! I also am not real crazy about pulling a horse trailer through Madison at noon! I feel myself chickening out as I type!

I hate that! Sometimes I wish I had some of the gumption that I had 20 years ago for sure.

So I picked a bunch of apples from the guy's tree where I got the shredder. They are yellow but with really good baking flavor--perhaps an apple pie is in my future too? I tried all day yesterday to find some half pint jars with no luck! I didnt want to go all the way to Walmart but it looks like I will have to! There are no small jars anywhere near here. I need to can up that bruschetta before I sample it all gone!

So much to do here. I took a look at my chickens literally FLOWING out of the coop yesterday and realized that I either have to seriously downsize or get that additional space made or built BEFORE the cold weather sets in! There is NO WAY all of those birds can stay in even for one day! Been following a thread from JEB and his plans are really cool. Of course he seems to be a master builder...I guess I am more on a par with you Bigz! Maybe I will ask DH...I KNOW he could do it...it seems to be a matter of pride for me though.

No puppies yet! The dog looks like she will explode! I was sure there would be some out there this morning. NOTHING. My new little chicks are doing OK--she takes them outside every day and I have to lift them back up into the coop at night. One is having a little problem with its leg...I hope it is OK. Probably got stepped on by one of the big roos.

Well, better get out there and do some work. Have a great day everyone! Terri O

Dr Ha Ha, It's not that it took them that long to recover....I had to build back up my numbers in my flock. And I did that by hatching out. THAT"S what took so long. They're mostly pullets now just starting to lay. Seems like it took forever!

WiscoChiko, You are probably right on the visiting thing. Diseases can transfer from shoes and clothing too.

Maybe this spring would be better. I'm glad you understand. Hope you get everything worked out and your flock recovers quickly. I got 2 chickens for sale if you are interested. One I know is a cockeral. He's a "color-cross" ameraucana. White and red. Very pretty and nice. And the other is a white ameraucana. Not sure of sex though. And maybe a few more more if you are in need. PM me if you's like them.

Gonna make some beet cake this week for camping, with whipcream/pudding frosting. Yum! Yum! My kids eat like it's going out of style.

And I gotta get that pool down for the season. I got most of the water out. Still have about 3" to go or so and then the real work begins getting that sucker down in the basement. Not looking forward to that!

WCC, might be time to start a new club - Insomniacs R' Us. Different causes, same results.

Using Frugal's (BYC member) recipe for chicken stock today, house smells real good. Made the easiest apple sauce in the crock last night - threw in some wild apples till they got soft and put them through a mill - yummo! The apples were so sweet didn't even need sugar

Getting a little jealous hearing about all these eggs. Still waiting for my girls to start, some of them are at least 5-6 months old. Hoping what I read about my Anconas is true and they start laying at 18 weeks...

Have a good last-warm-day-of-the-year people!

IS there a place here on the BYC to place cross post ads that we find for chickens for sale local in our area?
There is a lady on an IL horse board that has a free show quality rooster, and saw another on the Rockford CL for some show quality and rare chickens...

I am taking a natural sleep aid, and melatonin, I feel tired and do go to bed and may even start to doze.. but then wake up.. and like last night was up for an hour..
Had to take another benedryl and part of one of my pain meds. I think that is the root of my problem and will talk to my doc about it asap.

Forecast calls for rain! Get ready for another 2-3 inches of rain to fall between Wed. and Thurs. night....... Dr. H your Saturday should be ok until evening, but you know the darn weather!

I have a BBQ pork roast cooking away at home in the crock pot..... wish I was home to make some bread to go with it for tonight!

My sister tried to teach me to knit the other night......... THAT was a riot with my BIL right there cracking jokes every 5 seconds...... we should have been writing down what was said. Since I do not have knitting needles I have been working on my crocheting instead. The kids want to learn so mom has to re-learn what she already knows..... right now I'm making a purse/bag, and my youngest DD is making a scarf. Maybe homemade Christmas gifts are in the works......

WcC, I hope you get some sleep. I have a friend right now who sleeps 4 hours every 4 days. Docs can't figure it out either. Possibly set up some kind of routine that gets your body ready for sleep? Bubble bath, warm milk, reading instead of tv, no caffeine for 4 hours before bed, exercise during the day but not more than 2 hours before bed...... blah blah blah I am sure you know all of this but just trying to help.

Amyable, sorry for your lack of sleep as well, but I bet he is worth it.

TO that dog is going to pop at the worst possible time, you know that!

Have a fun ride, wish I was closer and owned a horse!

Annarie, Raiquee; how are those classes of yours?

Well I am south of Madison, and have a spare horse to ride.. I can put any one on her. She is my hubbies horse and we put the rankest amature/beginner rider on her..
She is a great horse!!, and gaited if you have a bad back!
Now if I can only get my horse trailer the way I need it.
Carol

Hey everyone, just got my DSL up and running again-modem problems last night so we had to wait for them to come out and look to see what was wrong. Makes it easier to get work done when I can actually connect to the internet

Terry O that's a lot of eggs you're collecting! Our girls have slowed down a bit, we get 2-3 sometimes 4 eggs a day and we have 6 hens that should be laying plus now some of the pullets have started-at least 3 of the Partridge Bantam Cochins and 2 of the older Andalusians, one of the older Welsummer and Cockoo Marans should be starting soon as well. We've notice that combs and wattles are getting red. In fact we had to buy a dozen eggs at the store the other day as we didn't have enough-1 st time in about a year!

DH decided that we should get the new coop built before it starts getting colder, that way our trailers fit into the garage. So we will be trying to get it done this week-it will be a 10 X 12 with 3 separate pens/runs. The other smaller coop(holds 6-7 birds) we will probably list out on CL to sell so if anyone whats more info about it let me know.

Off to get some more paperwork done along with staining a door.

Oh by the way we are going to the Portage show this Sat and Sunday-the older 2 kids are showing 3 birds each.
