Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well last night I attemped chicken fried steak. YUCK! what a disappointment, i think that was the worst meal i have ever cooked! Seriously nasty.

Tonight i have redeemed myself! Goulash, loaded with tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, etc all smothered in stringly lovely cheese...... omg

IT TURNED OUT GOOOOOOOOOD!

Last night I picked up a whole beef tenderloin for $13!!! Came home and made 1/2 into tenderloin tips with mushrooms and onions over noodles and a side of green beans. Tonight DH cooked up the rest on the grill...... so yummyyyyyyyyyy.

New Holstein is right smack in the middle of a lot of good places to find work. It would be a bit of a drive but worth it.

Still duking it out with the darn cell phone people; trying to get the early termination fees canceled due to breach of contract on their end.

Oh, I finally wittnessed the ducks swimming in the snow. Priceless!

, So I went in and another wall is gone. DH being out of work is a good thing in some ways. My kitchen is being redesigned. re using the cabinets etc. just relocating after removing old pantry. It sure will be nice when it's done. Till then MESS

GothChick our chickens aren't laying either and they have a heat lamp, food and water too. What's with that?

Oy, a busy week, got a few days behind on my forum reading.

To the person from Eagle, what are you looking for for 4H? I've got 3 Marans hatching now and I've got a dozen or so silkies from B/B/S pens (and 1 cuckoo rooster) and 8 or 9 lavender Ameraucana bantams from some show lines incubating currently and due to go into lockdown tomorrow, so depending on my success there may be some extras though don't know that I could guarantee pullets for some time. Wayne Meredith is near Eagle as well and he's got a ton of Ameraucanas, but doubt he's got chicks right now. He does sell birds, though. I've got a couple from him and they are lovely.

I've also currently got 3 Ameraucana chicks that are a couple weeks old, a splash marans, and a cuckoo marans along with a couple silkies, but I'll be keeping most of those.

I showed in 4H all growing up (cattle, horses mostly, various other projects), but don't really know anything about the requirements / needs for a poultry 4H project. My boys are only 6 months and 22 months, so I have a little time yet before I need to have the requirements down, LOL.

To all the football fans, congrats on the Packers advancing.

Good Snowy Morning All! Maybe an inch out there. But more forecast tomorrow. You can stop dancing fm! Welcome ZsazZsa!!!! The more the merrier! Kicked butt on my list yesterday now can move on to todays.

Been thinking maybe I'll keep my flock at this size thus avoiding any knew building projects, think I have enough to do around here. Thinkin steaks on the barbie tonight. Boy that's a lot thinkin already today, I'm tired now.

Good afternoon all! Nice and quiet here in the house finally...DH went to the activity center to work out--I guess he didnt believe me that he could work out right here with a snow shovel!

I think I am going to go and take a nap...I guess happy hour with the horse last night did me in. My beverage doesnt even taste any good today.
Got all the blankets off of the horses today. They were sweating on their shoulders so I figured it was time. I am hoping that i dont have to put them on again this winter. The tempin the coop was 33* today when I went in--I guess the girls are liking the better weather 'cause I came away with 15 eggs today! (so I guess about a third of the flock is laying) THe two girls that are living in a makeshift outside coop; no lights; no heat; sporadic water...BOTH layed today! Now how can that be? THe spoiled ones are just that--SPOILED! Although then I think what in the world would I do with 45 eggs a day?

Mags--why was your CFS yukky? Did you just not like the flavor? Wrong cut? Or you did something wrong? Your Goulash was delicious of course...most things smothered in cheese are! I think DH is wanting to make spaghetti for dinner tonight. I ate a late lunch of last night's left overs so I am sure I wont be hungry!
My neighbor came over yesterday and said he had a steer down and did I want half? (duh?) So I have to call directions in to the butchershop. This time I am going to have the steaks cut thicker! I think I had them at 5/8 last year and they cooked too quickly. Maybe they thought I said 3/8? I hope they have a record 'cause those steaks are loooong gone!
I am thinking that this hatch is going to be a bust...the temp in the bator went to 98 today. I think one of the cats bumped it or something. It is back up to 100.5 now after a small adjustment. I guess I just get to wait and see! A fan is in my future!
Well, gotta run--Terri O

I have no clue why it didnt turn out. The meat didnt have alot of flavor though. I used cube steak, and i breaded with egg and a flour mixture of, flour, garlic, seasoning salt, onion powder etc. Fried it in oil, but it was icky. Not much flavor at all. I followed the directions from an online recipe that got rave reviews. I honestly think the meat might have been the problem. We bought a 1/4 cow last summer, and i was trying to figure out new recipes for the cube steaks. oh well, back to dicing them up and making hobo pies. At least those turn out!
