Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi again--this is what I did tonight...

46457_wet_roo.jpg

I found this poor guy today and I brought him in and gave him a bath to see why he was bleeding so much. Here he is after he was dry:

He had so many blood feathers in his neck area that I guess he just started to bleen when he got into an altercation with somebody bigger! It always amazes me how much any chicken enjoys a bath and blow dry! He really hadnt been handled at all but sat in my lap like he was a pet while he dried!
I also had a record this morning! 49 (yes 49!) eggs! Way to go girls!

unfortunately my egg bucket is pretty monochromatic! I think I need to get some more EEs or something!
I am totally tired after all that "building" the last few days, going to hit the sack! Have sweet dreams--I am off to bed! Nighty--Terri O

Terri, WOW 49 eggs !!!!!

I am still waiting for our first. Your model coop is just wonderful, you are very talented. I love all the details

Do we help vote ???

I will have to look for Terri's link on my DH's laptop, mine isn't showing a lot of stuff....

I NEED HELP!!!!
CALLING OUT TO ANYONE IN OR NEAR LACROSSE!!!!!

There is a person on the Midwest Telnet has black copper maran chicks in Stoddard WI.

Black Copper Maran chicks, others for sale"

My dad hatched out about 15 black copper maran chicks on Monday. He also has a number of barred rock and a few purebred bantam chicks available too. These are from a WI tested flock and come with papers. The marans lay the chocolate brown eggs, darker than any other breed. He has the breeders on site. We are asking $4 each for the marans and $3 each for everything else. Quantity discounts will be given. More chicks avaiable in the future as we hatch weekly. Please call Dean at (608) 457-2627 if you are interetsed. Located near Stoddard, WI. Thanks!

Is there any one near there that I could mail money to that could pick them up, and possibly meet me in say Tomah? I would pay your gas.
Let me know.
Thanks TONS
Carol

Been getting some good pics of the boys lately, and a really pretty shot of my egg bowl. The FB link should work now.

My Bantam Cochins have given me a grand total of 2 eggs so far this year.

Got the first Call duck egg this afternoon though!

I have all 4 that I kept together right now (2 boys and 2 girls), so fertility should be good - I'm going to leave the egg and see if the girls accumulate a clutch and hatch them themselves. I don't have any broody Cochins yet, and I know the Calls will have better luck incubating their own eggs than I will! The things are notorious!

I'm on a waiting list for another pair of pure Black Calls and a pair of Blue Bibbeds this summer - I'm trying to go to an all Blue/Black, Bibbed, and Magpie Call flock. I swear, I'm not copying you BL4 - the Magpies were the Call color I originally fell in love with, they're just so hard to find! And my boyfriend is in love with the Self-Blacks now, so I guess we're jumping into that project! He says that the Whites and the Butterscotches look too much "like normal ducks".

I think he means that White it too common a color (and way too competitive in Calls anyways), and Butterscotch is too similar in pattern to wild-type Gray.

two more duck eggs into the bator today..that means that 40% of them are laying.. I have 5 females.. LOL
and 1 more turkey.

One of the new barred rock hens has turned out to be a nice pet
she is even tamer than the one red star that was my favorite. when I am dumping feed for the chickens, she hops up on top of the waterer and waits to be hand fed.. she even likes to be petted.. I didn't initiate it, she did..

Tommy has gotten into the habit of biting Annie on the back of the leg.. If he wasn't Ken's favorite bird, he would be in the freezer by now.. LOL

Annarie, I would NEVER think you were copying me!!! Maybe we can swap out some babies in the future to introduce different genes

...... I love out little black/bibbed calls too! The black one is named Jules for the character from Psych..... then Checkers the male and then of course Maggie......

No eggs yet...... I keep waiting and checking........ goofy ducks.

TO, you let me know when you are ready to take the three Grays.

The Pastel call is a female and yes she is still available.

Who'da thunk DUCKS would roost???

Weird....... I thought that DA was raising meat birds though....... (not the 'scovies...)

FM; STOP DANCING!!!!

NO MORE SNOW!!!!!!!

Not much going on here. WCC, I would be willing to drive to LC to get those babies for a 50/50 split if I could HAVE them here.....

Allrighty, gotta get the girl to school. Later everyone!

Good Morning everyone! TO I finally got to see you model coop. I didn't check out all of them but from what I did see yours is the best by far! Will look later for voting. You have way too much energy! Jim bad naughty Tommy! I'm ready to drywall but not today. Need to finish getting everything out of the crawlspace before the wet season starts along with a million other things. Put the big square in all the corners, dang I do good work. But not much of it.

Have a good one!

good morning all, I am up early, got to bed real late,.. Mom wouldn't settle down.. even after a beer and a glass of blackberry brandy.. maybe I should have had it instead.. LOL
I slept with one eye open.. I must be psycich, I can see a nap in my near future..LOL

DrH, you do nice work.. are you going to build your own cabinets? I built a few here and there, but never a whole set.
only built an occasional one to match the ones I would be installng that was too odd of a size or would not be available from the cabinet company..

I have a lot of nice wood here that I keep threatening to build new cabinets for Annie.. I better do it real soon before my eyes give out altogether.. I have some bitternut , silver maple or red oak.. bitternut (swamp hickory) is the hardest wood I ever used.. You can drive a good green deck screw into oak and bury the head.. in bitternut when the head hits the wood, the screw either stops, or the head snaps off.

I am looking for some call ducks for a friend.. I would consider eggs and hatch them myself.. PM me with prices and availability.. I will be heading to the east on sth 29 within the next couple of weeks.. any amount of eggs will do..

I'm all coffee'd up, got to make some breakfast now..
