Hey Jim do you think it's warm enough to put 8 week old Turkeys outside- they will be going under our upper level porch and have a shelter to go into? Can't remember what time we put the ones out last year-- they are in our big garage taking up space as DH would say! Thanks

Hi everybody! I just wanted to pop in and say hi. I've been a lurker on the thread for a couple months now, but don't really have a whole lot to say, so I don't post at all. I was "lured" to this thread by fordmommy and now I'm hooked. BTW, fm is one of my really close friends and country neighbor. I have a very assorted array of birds including chickens, ducks, quail, and turkeys. Somewhere close to 90 of them. When you get above 80 does it really matter anyway? I do have a question. Does anyone know where I can get some young Sebastopol geese or hatching eggs? I'm kind of interested in getting into them, but can't seem to find any in a decent price range and if I do, they're cross bred, which I don't want. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Thank you, Dr HaHa, dkvrt1 & MustLoveHens, for the warm welcome! I am so glad to find so many chicken lovers all over WI.
Amyable was nice enough to inform me of this thread. Looks like I've got a bit of reading to catch up on.

Dr HaHa, sorry to hear about your bike. What kind did you have?

good afternoon! GLad to see some more folks "getting up the courage" to speak! Welcome one and all--we really are nice folks here, well most of us...

You all know who I am talking about too!~

BL4--my call duck is sitting tight! She comes out 2xday to drink, eat and poo. I hope if the eggs hatch she is a good Mom! On my calendar the eggs are due to hatch the 21st of May. I am not sure what her calendar says....THey should be fertile...he nearly drowns the girls in the pool mating with them!

I was kind of glad that it was raining a bit this afternoon--then I didnt have to give a riding lesson!

I went to the grocery store instead (found some vanilla coke

) and came home to some really delicious smelling scalloped potatoes and ham in the crock pot. It will be good for dinner to be sure. Then I go off to my dog sitting job for the night. The dog is a Wheaton Terrier and is spoiled rotten! It should be fun...I am going to read and be on my computer...well, I hope so anyway. Just realized that I dont know any passwords to get on at her house. Maybe I can hack in?

I had another hen hatch out a single chick! Cute little bugger though. I hope some more of your eggs hatch Keedokes! I hate when they just sit there and then you wonder...should I wait? Should I toss? Good luck to you!

I helped the vet too when he gelded my horses. Very interesting to be sure. I dont think he put them under quite as deep though cause he sure wasnt snoring! I dont really remember when the pony got gelded if he was or not...maybe my daughter helped with that one...I thought it funny that the vet showed me what he took out and that he got the cord that (I am guessing) is sometimes missed. It was kind of like he was proving to me that he got it?

Jim I hope that you get that fox (or he moves on) before he gets any of your stuff! My neighbor on the other side of the freeway has a bunch of trouble with them at his place. Sees them pull birds right through his chainlink! Speaking of foxes...any way you can post that pic from your trail cam David? I would be interested in seeing a gray fox. Glad you got your goatie back!

Well I suppose I oughta get downstairs and clean out those birds...starting to smell pretty yucky in there! I wanted to get the bog ones out in the new coop but I am not finished with it yet...almost though! Just have to get the roof on now; trying to decide how I will mount the panel.

Have a great evening! Terri O

ETA: Any way you can get that standard cochin to Madison or Milwaukee?? I could meet you there. Hop-a-Long might like a girlfriend of his own kind....

It is funn how things accumulate... I have 3 turkeys in the hatcher, 3 more in a borroder with some chickens, and 2 more in another brooder, too young for the chicken brooder.. That is 8,, people..!!!! i am really happy about it, don't get me wrong

8 week old is old enough to go out for turkeys..,, especially for you "southerners" I assume they are not still with a heat lamp..

I have some 5 and 6 week old chicks that I want to put out but I don't want to shock them .. we do need some warmer weather..

I got the nests just about finished.. I still have to come up with a simple way to keep the flaps locked closed.. I will be taking pictures when I am done.. but I can't post them here..

Brian came and picked up his chicks his afternoon, so I have a brooder free.. the new turkeys will be he first ones in it with the new guinea..

Isn't it funny how the numbers just seem to creep up......

DH always asks what the plan is for all the birds and who can leave

The Turkeys are in our big heated garage and only have a regular red bulb to give some light because we don't run the shop lights unless we are in there. Guess DH will be grinning from ear to ear that we can move them outside this week

that means we will have some space again!

Nice to see everyone keeping busy and welcome to all the new faces!

Welcome Frizzler glad you decided to join us!

Finally got the AC fixed... sometimes I really hate landlords! Florida and no AC for two weeks, what the???

Got a lot done today, but don't feel it's enough, funny how some days are like that. Guess it's just because there is so much to go through and pack up. Glad we aren't leaving until the end of the month. Been a bit hard to motivate since Stanley's passing. I'll be in the middle of something and a stray though hits me and the tears start. Told DH (who's having an especially tough time with this thankfully he went away on a business trip, giving him something else to think about) that this is the hardest part, working through all the memories the spring up. Didn't help that today was Murphy's vet visit for heartworm...not even a week ago we had to drop off poor Stanley for creamation.

Think maybe tonight I'll do something I rarely do and have a drink, wish I had something harder and better tasting that beer...

Hope everyone had a wonderful day... I'm looking forward to the move more than ever the closer it gets. Found out yesterday my girls and their families are planning on visiting for my birthday on June 12...yay!! Love hanging out with them and the grandbabys and excited that now we'll only be about an hour and 1/2 from them!

That is OK, everyone! She is a really nice girl, except for this. We just got our first chickens this last fall and I am somewhat new to this. I have pretty much had it with her. My next step may be to butcher her, but I am not sure I can do it. I have a ton of friends who said they would take her for dinner in a heartbeat, but I don't know. Does anyone here butcher their chickens for food, or do you all have them as pets?

We use the extra ones as meat, we have a few cockerals that didn't make the cut this time around and are waiting to be processed. Each person has their own way of dealing with extras. Good Luck with her.

Good Blurry Evening All... Thanks for any kind words or thoughts sent my way. The surgery was a success and now the recovery period is critical for things not to go sour. I'm under alot of restrictions...no coop time, driving, or any kind of effort stuff. I'm glad the Doctor feels he saved most of the sight....time will tell. The injury was severe with 9 tares, most folks have one or two...

I will catch up on the reading here when I'm able to see better. This is even a challenge.

Thanks for letting folks know about the injury Jim. Me and you can put all our eyes together and maybe have one good one

Suzie has become quite the coop and brooder tender. Don't know what I'd do without her help. Plus she's placing 13 eye drops a day into the old man.

Welcome to anyone new here. Nothing but great folks here. Be sure to mark your calenders for the Bash in June. Hope everyone can make the event. I'm looking forward to it. It's closing in fast now.

Be Safe... ~ bigzio
