Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

WcC, the Mallard or Wild colored calls are are called Grey. I have no idea why this is; perhaps SF knows...... that ad has terrible pics. I was happy to see it had a 715 area code and not 608.......

I would have thought TO was dumping her ducks!

You are a hard bunch to keep up with! I popped in while I was at work and ended up reading 3 pages!

The rain today was ok; I could have done without the wind. The Jeep died at work for me Saturday, so I have been driving our big van to work. Makes windy day driving a ton of fun......

Keedokes, congrats on the win!

I have shutters made for the windows and flower boxes. Ihave to cut out the pop door, but I have the frame and the pop door made. I need to put rigid insulation onthe roof and under the floor. Do I need to cover the rigid insulation, will they peck or eat it? I plan to bolt the walls to the floor. If it ever stops raining, I will start leveling the spot and put in the corner blocks.

celticD ., I can always find a use for wheels.. I prefer the solid type tires, but tubes are OK , too..

Yes, chickens will peck solid insulation with gusto..

I sold 3 turkey poults, and 10 guinea keets..

tomorrow I will be tossing unhatched eggs and moving new eggs into the hatcher.. guinea and duck..

dooner great job I can't wait to see the whole thing.
The ladies loved the bird seed. I haven't feed them any grit yet but I am sure they got some from the run.
Tonight it is supposed to get down to 31. I wonder if I should add another heat lamp or lower theirs slightly

David

Good Morning Everybody! Geez Dooner TO might try to break her lease with otonoh. Flower boxes, shutters. Should look pretty spiffy when it's finished! And oh yes they will peck and eat to the styro. Not a good thing! Thinking that wainscoat or knotty pine would look nice inside!

Nope Bigz one of the guys has an outside boiler which worked out great for him 90% of the trees that we dispatched were pine anyway. But there was enough oak and maple to keep them warm next winter

Wasn't expecting anything for my help that's not why I was there. But the one son works at the Point brewery and he told me not to say anything but there was an order put in for me. I told him to scratch the order my fridge is always stocked. It irritates me that people can't accept something for what it is, just a friend/neighbor lending a hand. Maybe some day I might need hand then they could reciprocate if they wanted. But it's not expected! But the one guy gives me my straw bedding for free and a fair price on my meat birds. Even if that wasn't the case I still would have helped out. I felt bad that I didn't get out to the BFF's to help him pick up his yard but he had no trees down in his yard so it was just picking up small stuff. He is gonna need help with a privacy fence with cemented in posts so I'll be there for that. Well it looks like I'll be able to make some wood for the next 2 days. Gonna get the oak that gave me so much grief taken care of and maybe drop another one. We'll see. Enjoy the sunshine! I know the garden will!

Darn postal service. My chicks are still not here today, were shipped out Monday... getting concerned they will be DOA if they do not arrive today... poor babies are going to be so stressed... called meyers and they said to call the closest hub... I will do that when they open. I really wish they would scan that dang tracking barcode on the top. Whosever job that is to scan those barcodes is surely lacking.

OMG Dorne.. WOW.. I would seriously call supervisors at the post office.. PLS keep us informed..

Well my very wonderful friend is getting us a matching china hutch and side table we saw yesterday at St. Vinnies.
I am letting the ducks in with the chicks at night, and kick them out during the day. I don't want them eating the chick food.
The chicks get to eat duck food for a few hours .. LOL

Have a less windy day!
Carol

Called the hub in La Crosse. The next shipment for priority mail today is at 1:45, and that is actually tomorrows mail. So I am hoping that when I call there this afternoon that the chicks are there, if not... then I will cry. And I will be coming here asking you all for some RR chicks so my kids anticipation of these chicks is cured.... I am sure hoping that next week when my second shipment of the white layers goes off without a hitch....

Good morning all--and what a COLD and windy day it is! THey are saying 38 for the low tonight...BRRRR--might have to turn the furnace back on!
Dornes--I know that area well. My dd19 and I horse camp in Arkdale and that is what they say to us...big(ger) city half hour to 45 mins each way; take your pick! And so cool about the coop! THose Amish build some nice buildings! I wanted to get one as a garden shed/getaway little house with a porch...but when I saw the $2000 price tag I just couldnt do it! Way to score a deal though...even IF you have to reassemble it!

Hey Dooner--if the light is out in the coop they wont eat anyhow so I would think no water will be fine. See how it goes; if they run out in the morning and drink frantically then remove the food or add the water! I bought some of those drinking cups/nipples from a guy on here with high hopes to make his waterer that is automatic. Got everything including the float valve last spring. I never did build it (of course) and now I might be hard pressed to find all the supplies! I can try though. I think I bought 25 of them...I am sure I can spare a couple!
DKV--would LOVE to see your DH dressed like a chicken! Hey, we DO need a mascot....oh, wait, is that DrH?

David--I take all my papers from my inside cages and put them out for the chickens to scratch. They scratch them all up into dust and it goes right into the ground! In my big cages I use corncob litter and that too does into the wheelbarrow with the shavings from the chicks in the basement and once again; dumped into the chicken yard! I tell you chickens are GREAT trash compactors. I do the same with yard stuff (as long as it isnt poisonous) and here's a cool thing; tree branches with leaves go to the goats and when they are stripped clean come back into the house to become chewies or perches for the inside guys! Round and round!

Too funny about your "gimmick" Jim! I think we are going to have to watch out for you...say, does the state know about all these "bird sales" going on off your place?

Dooner your coop looks GREAT...maybe I will have Jim stay in David's coop with the purple shag fug and I will move into yours! I could do upkeep on the flower boxes! Do cover the insulation...my chicks ate off a 4 foot section that was insulation the basement wall...looks like I had tall rats!

Well upon finishing the whole thread--finally, I see most questions have been answered so just disreguard my message!

LOL--I am off to work--again! THursday...Friday is almost here--Thanks GOd! Have a fantastic day! Terri O
