Good morning all--and what a COLD and windy day it is! THey are saying 38 for the low tonight...BRRRR--might have to turn the furnace back on!
Dornes--I know that area well. My dd19 and I horse camp in Arkdale and that is what they say to us...big(ger) city half hour to 45 mins each way; take your pick! And so cool about the coop! THose Amish build some nice buildings! I wanted to get one as a garden shed/getaway little house with a porch...but when I saw the $2000 price tag I just couldnt do it! Way to score a deal though...even IF you have to reassemble it!
Hey Dooner--if the light is out in the coop they wont eat anyhow so I would think no water will be fine. See how it goes; if they run out in the morning and drink frantically then remove the food or add the water! I bought some of those drinking cups/nipples from a guy on here with high hopes to make his waterer that is automatic. Got everything including the float valve last spring. I never did build it (of course) and now I might be hard pressed to find all the supplies! I can try though. I think I bought 25 of them...I am sure I can spare a couple!
DKV--would LOVE to see your DH dressed like a chicken! Hey, we DO need a mascot....oh, wait, is that DrH?
David--I take all my papers from my inside cages and put them out for the chickens to scratch. They scratch them all up into dust and it goes right into the ground! In my big cages I use corncob litter and that too does into the wheelbarrow with the shavings from the chicks in the basement and once again; dumped into the chicken yard! I tell you chickens are GREAT trash compactors. I do the same with yard stuff (as long as it isnt poisonous) and here's a cool thing; tree branches with leaves go to the goats and when they are stripped clean come back into the house to become chewies or perches for the inside guys! Round and round!
Too funny about your "gimmick" Jim! I think we are going to have to watch out for you...say, does the state know about all these "bird sales" going on off your place?
Dooner your coop looks GREAT...maybe I will have Jim stay in David's coop with the purple shag fug and I will move into yours! I could do upkeep on the flower boxes! Do cover the insulation...my chicks ate off a 4 foot section that was insulation the basement wall...looks like I had tall rats!
Well upon finishing the whole thread--finally, I see most questions have been answered so just disreguard my message!
LOL--I am off to work--again! THursday...Friday is almost here--Thanks GOd! Have a fantastic day! Terri O
