Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey folks! kinda bummed 'cause we are talking about "Anne Boleyn-ing" our girls in another couple of weeks. I know-the circle of life, etc. but I still am bummed. Anyway, what is this meeting/bash everyone is conversing about? I tried to access the link but I have WildBlue and they STINK!!! as far as service (internet is slow and crappy). Also, does anyone out there know of anyone who wants to get rid of some chicks and/or pullets? Free is best but am willing to pay. Have no problem driving to pick them up or meeting half-way to pick them up. Looking to increase my flock. Also looking for a small incubator and other chicken related equiptment. I live in SW wisconsin, close to Richland Center/Fennimore so if anyone knows of anyone close to this area, that would be even better!
Better weather today, girls were ALOT more active. Hope all are okay and better tomarrow!!

Yikes! It's hard going back to work after a 4 day mini-vacation. I got home at 5:30 and have been napping until just now!

I was right about the little twisted-neck duckling - we should've culled him and ended his suffering right away. He started pooping blood yesterday - we suspected but weren't 100% sure it was him because he honestly looked MUCH better than he had the day before, but he ended up surviving until this afternoon, and there haven't been anymore bloody droppings since he passed.

The other 13 babies all look great (one has a slightly crooked bill - it's literally ON HIS FACE crooked - but doesn't hinder his ability to eat or drink at all) - I'm not sure whether to chalk the two deformities in this batch up to the tray being dropped at 2 weeks, too high temps, or genetics...but the next batch of 9 Call and Hookbill eggs are already pipped and zipping in the 'bator, so we'll find out!

I guess Will's mom was talking to the realtor we'd been using until we took the house off the market (they go to the same church), and he's ticked at us. He had a very interested buyer all lined up, and they made a really decent offer on the house, but when it came down to it Will and I just decided that we're going to be financially better off and more sane if we wait to sell after all the drama of the wedding and everything. It was a really TOUGH decision, not something we just decided on a whim! Anyways, when he was showing the house, we kinda draped a canvas threw over the brooder in the corner of the garage and hoped no one asked any questions (all poultry is illegal to keep here in Baraboo, although all our neighbors are aware that I'm hatching them and raising them up to 4-6 weeks before sending them to my mom's). I guess this realtor had to go be a
duc.gif
and basically inform Will's mom at church the other day that "those animals they have in the garage are illegal".

And that was in addition to the rest of his rant. I definitely know what realtor we're NOT going with when we re-list the house next year!

I wish you weren't a 4 hr drive from me! I have about 20 straight run chicks I would give you for free!

Oh for Pet's Sake SF! Talk about sour grapes! Doesnt he have anything else to do that to terrorize you and Will? I mean rally--you could be doing something REALLY illegal in your garage! Good Grief!

So on this next batch of calls do you think you will have any whites? My neighbor is calling again!

MLH--I have the perfect horse for you to ride! She does English or Western. She will be in good shape 'cause she is going to be at the Jefferson County fair this year with my student. Havent heard from anyone else yet...

Thanks for the head's up on the driving to the bash you guys. DH is checking out maps now.

Broo--the bash has it's very own thread under Meet-ups and Chickenstocks. You can find that in the index of BYC. We should be near the top. Speaking of the bash--I have the banner reserved but Nifty hasnt told me if we have it or not. I guess I will send an email to see what is up!

THe hen with the guinea babies is driving me nuts...actually the hen is fine-it's the babies!!! They are all over; I tried putting them in a rabbit cage but they go through the 1" mesh! I put a bunch of stuff around it and will revamp with cardboard tomorrow. It's always something! I wish I didnt have to go to work during the week...then I would have "plenty" of time to putter around here....yeah, except for the fact that every chore expands to take up all the time you have allotted for it! (and then some!)

OK--time to hit the hay. My friend that is sharing the garden with me this year is coming tomorrow...we are hoping that we can finish getting it in! Sure hope the tiller comes home tomorrow!

Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O

Well its been a long day. babysitting, dog sitting, NOT SLEEPING AGAIN.
I am going to text SF to ask her about the call with the deformity, maybe he can come live with my 1 eyed call drake, my too big call hen, and my bossy white mallard.. the other pied bibbed call isn't sure what her issue is yet.. LOL

I don't have THAT many horses. I have 3 that are mine and rideable (IE broke to ride), where I board at there are about 40 or so (more).. but of those, many are broke, but Joan would probably NOT let people ride them, unless they were interested in buying them.. LOL

MLH- I am riding in a dressage saddle this year as I sold my Aussie a year or so ago, I can buy it back eventually, but not until my friend finds the western he really wants. My DH has a great aussie/western hybrid. I did have a western, but sold it as I needed the money and it wasn't we made.
I am so not uber anything.. except uber goofy!! LOL
TO.. I need to call you this weekend to get your chore list and come over to visit.
good nigh folks.

AHHHHH! Now a riding meet up!? LOL... Man, it must be almost 30 years since I was even on a horse! When I was a kid I helped my Uncle break and train a few but I don't even have the leg strength to go for a short, easy ride.
hmm.png
Oh well. (I bet if I could have kept riding my health and weight would be better!)

I got back late from picking up fencing and the girls had already gone to bed. DH locked them up but I still had to check food and water. They also didn't get their scratch. Most were pretty quiet when I went down there, but Matilda was waiting! Right on the roost by the door. She scolded me until I broke out the scratch!

Her and Rose are the ones who fallow me around the most and keep me up dated on the rest of the girls. Matilda has also been making as many visits to Jasmine (miss broody) as she can. She just goes over to the brooder box and softly jabbers to her for a few minuets then leaves. Funny, she never paid much attention to her before.

Well, night!

I know there was more to say.... got lost...lol

Good Morning All! Man O Man I can't keep up with you guys. So, sorry for your losses, Welcome newbies, glad your hatch is going well, happy birthday, and that's really funny! The Bash must be getting closer I was on the puter and looking at a road map too!

My hens are being BAD NAUGHTY! Only 2 eggs yesterday. I should keep them in jail for a couple of days but just can't do it. Was heading to the woods this morning but it's pretty wet yet the roof is still dripping. So there's a one or two things in the garage to do.

Nice soaking rain for the garden yesterday! Both are looking really good. The dang Roma's that got nipped have made a full recovery, now have way too many. Gonna be a lot of maters given away this year. One of the Big Boys has blossoms on it already. Oh one thing that I remembered. Bigz that jerky would go great with a campfire and a beverage of choice.
lau.gif
Gee wonder why I remembered that? And fishin/huntin lies!
lau.gif
Beter go let the monsters out. Enjoy the beautiful day!

MLH-Once again, thank you so much for looking for Snowys for me. Even if you can't actually find them, it's really nice of you to check

I put the incubator into lock-down last night and woke up this morning to some very loud peeping. Got up to yell at the turkeys and heard the noise coming from the 'bator. Seems I have some early birds, so to speak. I betcha that first one out is a boy. He is so loud that it puts the turkeys to shame. Oh, and yes, the turkeys are still in the house. I had decided to give them one more night and they behaved. Must've been lonely and scared that first night. Holy man can they fly too. I have a black 100 gallon water tank for the brooder and they can fly out of it already. Looks like I'll be doing some wing clipping once they're outside. I just can't risk my Royal Palms getting away.

Looks like today won't be too shabby. If it's not too cold, I'm thinking we'll go to the Wega zoo and check out the babies. I took some roos there a month ago and she said they had a bunch of baby goats (of course) and baby lions among lots of other stuff. Maybe if I take the Maran roos that I can't stand we'll get free admission

. It only seems right, I am after all, feeding their lions, tigers and bears (OH MY)

TO - A riding meet up! I may have to get ahold of my mom for this one. She has horses, and I used to ride. It has been a couple years since I have been on a horse.... so we shall see! Ukaradee by Necedah has some really nice trails.

Glad to hear all your hatches are pipped and zipping. I want to see pictures!

My 3 week olds are really starting to feather in and my two week olds are getting bigger and bigger! I need to find my name list.... So far I have Gretta and Pippa (like the princess Catherine's sister.... yes, lol) I got the coop insulated and some of the plywood up last night. What a difference that made, it is almost quiet in there! I am planning to move the chicks out by the end of next week... they are getting too big for their brooders!

Well so much to do this morning, and head off to photograph a wedding. Have a great day all!
