Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all, It is wetter than a kleenex in a hay fever ward.. no planting today.. I called all my helpers and told them to stay home today.. we will shoot for tomorrow..

the mama turkey has 10 baby muscovys.. I took 5 from the chickTV to her and she accepted them instantly.. and surprise,,,they went right to her !! she is still sitting on some eggs.. after today, we will take the eggs away..

Frizzler, I have been raising RP turkeys for a few years.. I don't know if you know, but their immune systems are not fully developed for at least 12 weeks.. as a result, we never put them directly on any ground where a chicken has ever been.. chickens do not have to be present..
there is a parasite that the chickens carry that is deadly to turkeys.. once they show symptoms, you have less than two days to treat them.. and the treatment seldom works, anyhow.

what I did was to build two turkey sun porches.. they are 4 ft x 10ft pens up on 24inch legs.. we keep the turkeys in there until they are at least 12 weeks old.. we can keep 20 turkeys in each cage.. we have about 40 in one of the cages right now, but they are still small..

before we did this, we had easily 50% losses.. we still have losses, but only about 5%..

We would LOVE to meet Peatwo! Still not sure if we're going though. I'll call you if we do. But I'm sure the others would love to meet him too.

Good morning! I sent word about the banner...I am just a little worried that he said "send me your addy and I will process it right away." I already did that in January! We were on the list but the pending list only. Maybe they wait to see if the meet-ups are really happening? Anyhow--it is in the works so to speak...
TO - A riding meet up! I may have to get ahold of my mom for this one. She has horses, and I used to ride. It has been a couple years since I have been on a horse.... so we shall see! Ukaradee by Necedah has some really nice trails.

Yes Dornes, I have ridden those trails every year at Mother's Day! We have a whole group that goes there to camp for the weekend. They went to Palmyra this year and I didnt go yo Ukarydee because my daughter had exams...I really am sad that we missed the trip...it was a tradition for NINE years! Oh well, maybe next year? THere is another hobby that I am into (besides chickens

) called Letterboxing and I have a stamp carved to hide somewhere on those trails...just to get up there and REMEMBER to bring it!

My friend is coming to garden soon--I hope we can get something done. IT is pretty wet out there but those peppers and eggplants NEED to get into the ground! Maybe it will be easier digging? THis tiller repair has really thrown me for a loop!

Oh I hear a car...better get my boots on! Have a fantastic day! Terri O

temp is a bit high, but 1 day is not the end of the world.. OR ,sometimes the egg was warm enough to start incubating a bit before you set it in the bator..

Oh - it's not a Call. The twisty-necked Stanbridge White passed away, and the crooked-billed one is a Dutch Hookbill, which is a small breed too and he needs a home!

Terri O - the first two Call ducklings in the latest batch hatched overnight, and they're a Mallard-Grey and ANOTHER Blue Bibbed.

More still hatching though!

Well I woke up, took trash and recycle to the dump, fed chickens, got nauseated and have a slight head ache....
I am going to eat something... (i felt the same way yesterday)
And then go back to bed.

On a sad note, a neighbor to where I board my horses and chickens at, had a TREE come down ON her house, and total their suburban, they only had
liability on it...WOW
I guess we were very lucky.
I am going to PM BBP, and maybe TO can bring back the deformed ducking for me!!
I can then change my name to Deform Call Chick.. LOL

We will be coming from the North any tips with road construction for us on our way to the Bash?
Kind of a dreary day today sure hope the sun finds us tomorrow. We got 1 and 1/4 " of rain last night. Not going in the garden today. DH had to change a heat line (hot water heat) in the house so we can put in a patio door later this summer. I was the clean up crew. It's done and the line tested, so we are good to go next fall.
Carol hope your stomach is better.

Have a nice evening, Susie
