ODr.H, last year we sort of winged it. We had the pot-luck, FM made name tags for everyone with their screen names and left space for you to fill in your real name, we talked so much that we almost forgot to do the white elephant! My kids and even the DH is looking forward to being there this year!

BigZ, I read in one of my more recent issues of Mother that you can string up fishing line to deter the deer. Apparently the clear stuff is too fine for them to see and when they walk into it it freaks them out...... and what you cannot see you cannot jump either.

Ok, long day tomorrow so I better hit the hay.

Anyone going to bring Guineas to the bash? DH was talking to the neighbor and now he wants some! LOL

He's hooked! How much room would 4 -6 need and how well do they winter?

Got 3/4 of the garden fence done and I'm going to start planting!!!! Only a month and a half after I usually do

And I bet frozen tomatoes isn't going to be my only frozen prize!

Hi Everyone. I was wondering how is everyone doing? I'm ok. Just that last week I bought some silkie eggs on ebay and I just candled them and looks to me that none are going to hatch.

So I was wondering if anyone knows anybody near me that has a few silkies that are willing to sell would be great.or maybe a few eggs to try this incubating thing again. OH I almost forgot for that camping thing Do you have to be a member for a long time to go? Cause I was talking to my Family And they think It would be a blast to meet new people. And if we can do they have to have chickens to come too. They live in town but come out to my place every weekend and make minor adjustments to the coop. Did you guys come up with a final design for the t shirts yet? jw

Biz's I know you better than that your just going thru a lull. I too can sit and stare or even sometimes walk for hours, well not walk. Sometimes I sits and fishes other times I just sits. Skeeter dope was already on my list. Glad you mentioned the fish fillets their still in the fridge got to get them in the freezer now. Anyone want chive plants? Have a bunch of them, free to a good home! TO starting to worry about dk she should have checked in by now! Raim YOU are the greatest! Thanks for all your work!

Headed back to the woods. I always make the time to go on a walk about just to look and listen. Makes my day! Hope you all see something today that makes you laugh! Oh wait you have chickens

jw again, it seems to me that you are giving up too soon on those eggs.. You cannot have had them in the bator for more than 5 or 6 days, eh?

I am going to take a chance and water my garden.. No rain in the forecast until tomorrow, and that is ify..iffy,ifie..iffey,iffie. How do you spell a word that isn't actually a word ?

there must be a duck setting on a nest somewhere, I am one short.. a buff hen..

I have to get the rest of the plants into the garden today.. we have them covered with the quail cage to keep the chickens out of them.. and I will be needing that cage soon..

Is there anybody going to the bash and sleeping over on Friday night? how many?

Well - waaaaayyyy too much to catch up on since last Friday. So here I am again. Long weekend. I am reading more of the bash. Man, how I wish I didn't have a wedding to shoot that weekend

Do we have a fall bash!? That would be fun!

Got the coop inside all done this weekend. I am all set and moved the chicks in on Sunday. They are loving it. I just have to shingle the roof and put up the outdoor run fence and then I am good to go. I was sitting in there the night when we moved them in and my little hamburg flew up onto my shoulder and settled all down and started snoozing, so I put her back down and back up she flew. We did this a couple times until I finally let her just be up there and snuggle for a little while. I guess when they were in the brooders in the house I didn't realize how friendly she was.

The "mother hen" of the bunch sure is showing that she is going to be the boss chicken too. Everything she does the rest of them follow her arond. It's amazing to me that within 4 weeks I have a dominate hen out of the bunch! Gretta... Gretta the queen bee, ahem - chicken!

I have one of my polish chicks with pasty butt. Man, when they say pasty butt they are not kidding... it is like dried glue! Poor thing. So question for all of you, I have been washing and wiping it with a warm wash cloth, and then applying a very liberal amount of olive oil to keep from re-pasting, but it is still pasting... is vaseline okay for chickens? I was thinking a thin layer of that might do the trick... but I know the others might peck it, so I don't know if it would be super okay for the others to be eating... How long does pasty butt last? Poor chick, her hinder is starting to get a little raw from me cleaning it

TerriO- when I was putting the finishing touches on the coop - DH come over and told me I did a super job, and then proceeded to ask me to come help him with some stuff he needed to get done around the farm. Shot myself in the foot there, by proving to him that I was fully capable of using power tools and machinery to get the coop reassembled..... sigh.

Well I got a call yesterday midmorning that the land lord (new one) wanted to come show her son and some of the other relatives our house, to show off how nice it looks now, as the previous tenant's dogs ate the inside of it (and part of the outside too).
We had empty boxes, chicks and a rabbit in the basement... snakes and tarantulas upstairs, parakeet moulted feathers in a few spots... So I called DH to come home from work and
Poof, we have a nice house, some stuff from the front porch which had become a catch all for when we moved in.. It went up stairs to the storage room (and hid the snakes).Vacuumed, dusted, parakeets are now out on the front porch and enjoying it!!.
Rabbit and chicks are at the barn until rabbit goes to TO's.. I am thinking I can bring bunny and chicks to TO on friday.
I will call her after posting this...
So after cleaning and feeding yesterday, both hubby and I were sneezing and blowing our noses... several hours later, and a run to get antihistamines...we have come to the firm
conclusion we both have our first summer colds...
So poor DH could hardly get out of bed, I went to Walgreens to get cold medicine and we both went back to bed.
I have to go get the parakeet I am fostering back from the barn (he is IN the house) and feed every one.

Well, it was Saxon's turn for the "doggie tune" up trip to the vet. He did great! He loves his vet especially when she gives him goodies! He needs a dental and he got blood drawn for his heartworm check, Thyroid re check, and a senior blood panel. He is ummm...over weight....and he is on Thyroid medication already. He had lost 4 pounds since he first got put in the medication over a year and a half ago. He is not the most active dog in the world which is not normal for an Aussie plus he is a beast of an Aussie as well. But he is a sweetheart and he thinks he's a little itty bitty tea cup poodle or something.
So anyway, his vet said to try a light formula dog food and if that does not work we will have to go the prescription food route...plus I have to try to get him moving more. He has a stifle or back issue so he is hard to get active. But we will try smaller exercise sessions but more often. I got his new food and we will see how his blood work comes back.

I got some fresh strawberries and made a fresh strawberry pie....Yummmmm....(It's any wonder why I have fat dogs!!! Geesh! I need to lead by example and eat healthier and eat less treats...I'll get right on that....after I'm done with the pie!!

I tried to "poison" the Girls today. They were not amused. Apparently, strawberries are Chicken Poison! Who knew!!

But the Old Broads did give me two nice eggs today. Guess those chicken recipes that I posted on the wall by their cage are working!! DrH-I think you need to call in the Big Guns....Betty Crockers Cook Book or the Better Homes and Gardens New Cook book works well too!!!

Well, I best be off, I have to clean bunny cages and Harry Bunny wants out of his cell...I mean cage!

Here is my Saxon, My beast of an Aussie that weighted in at 92.8 pounds to day. He is 4 (or maybe 5) this November...I got him from a girl who was a customer of our feed stores. She had two left over from Saxon's litter and she did not want him to go to the person who was kinda interested in him, so I "bought" him. He is a slobber monster and quite possibly the stupidest Aussie on the face of the planet. I have people ask me all the time if he is a Collie. But no, he is a badly bred Aussie that loves to carry toads in his mouth to "save them" from the other dogs. But he is a love muffin and a total goof ball. He is my favorite Red Tri Aussie...
