Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well another long day down, I guess I should say Happy Independence day. It just feels like another hot day here. I had an allergy attack whilst taking a nap so am drinking coffee...
kinda funny that.
Booted 3 of the Maran chicks out to the barn, I have one salmon favorelle pullet here to tame down. So once she is gone, the other chick is getting booted.
I opened up the exer-pen so the stupid nearly grown hens would go intermix with the silkies and learn to be in a larger group.

I had an egg rock and start to pip, yesterday, I fed them this morning and the chick, a white one was dead, not the other one that hatched a few days ago..
It had been smothered, fully formed, compeletly dry, but smothered... kind of odd..
The duck eggs seem to be good, I am sure they will hatch soon.
have a great one folks.

Hi everyone! Just had a delicious dinner of brats, beans and potato salad. DD25 grilled. I spent almost the whole day at the fair hanging pictures and placing displays. It was hot! The club decorated the horse stalls so they are ready for animal in-day tomorrow.
I had a tn of fun giving chickens baths today...it was pretty weird cause they seemed to enjoy it! They were probably so hot that they were glad to get in the water. They look good...just one I have to work on her mite eggs yes. I hope I can get them all off.
I am going to go out and close up now--we are going to town to watch the fireworks tonight. Later! Terri O

Hot hot day here today. The grass is crackling. Chickens seem to be doing well. Went out and hosed down the run and sprinkled the chickens who pretended to hate it while they preened under the spray. They then had a ball scratching and bathing in the cool semi wet dirt. Found a teeny little bantam pullet egg out in the run today. "Where's it's mommy?" So cute.

The Iowa Blues are plucky little birds, love their big expressive eyes and high tail carriage. Very cute. Can't wait to see them all grown up. Got a handful of youngsters in the chick TV growing right now to joing them.

The silkies are so cute, can't wait til they start laying. Would like to take some chickens to a chicken show but always seem to find out too late. :p

Gotta go feed the squalling young'en. He's hungry NOW! Laterz.

Went to Kankakee, IL this weekend. One advantage of living up north is that when you travel at the start of a big holiday weekend, the south bound lanes are about average and the north bound lanes are jammed. When I came back today, the south bound lanes were jammed and the north bound lanes were about average. Also, I think there are alot of boats that spend more time and miles on the highways than on the water!!

I'm not going to even attempt to back-read.

I hope everyone had a blast at the bash!! I will try and make next years. New baby/jobs/etc it just wasn't in the plans!!!

I have scovies hatching. Up to 13ish. 2 of the 13 aren't scovies, probably my khaki campbells. If anyone wants scovie babies pm me!! I am only keeping six to raise for meat. The rest must go to cover feed!

We have marked 3 chickens and 3 ducks for D-day. Just don't know when D-day is!! Don't know is hubberz wants to wait until the 6 are full grown and do them all, or in two batches.

Garden is in full swing. Harvested close to 10lbs of organic veggies and thats just spring!! I planted my starts from seeds that I thought was a loss because nursery stock just sucks this year and I have to say, they are catching up pretty fast. Nothing some good old duck manure won't fix!! I bought these buckets from Wally World that are meant for putting ice and beverages in, and packed them full of vining plants. Could be the stupidest idea of the year, or the best. I'll keep ya updated. One of them has like 7 cuke plants in it, the other has 4 cantelope, 1 zuke, 2 watermelon, 2 spag squash. Idea is that they can spill over the sides and go wherever they want as they grow. We shall see.

I go second shift tomorrow. Working 230-1100. Hunter still isn't sleeping over night, so i'm gonna be exhausted. Still looking for homes. Organizing our bills and getting out of debt soon

Exciting!!

Well we got the lawn mower unloaded and now it won't start.. I called the fellow who sold it to me and he went over a few things that I knew about, still didn't start.
I have a friend that help me with it tomorrow, if I can't get it started in the morning. Its a pull start and no electric start.
The washing machine isn't working now, and it was full of water, I hadn't done a load since Weds.. and it was empty when I did the last load on weds last week...
So now it won't work, and it was full of water...
AND now the "new" mower won't work..

They say things come in threes... we have no money, BUT were able to barter hay for money owed from my part time training job, the lawn mower we saved up to get won't start, and now the washing machine won't work...
This is enough... things MUST look up from here...
Please send good vibes..

ON another note.. I am willing to give away this registered arab gelding 13 yrs old, well broke but not for a beginner, to some one here, or to some one YOU recommend.

I am about ready to cry, its that time (for women) and it doesn't help that nothing seems to be working, and that my orderly little world is crumbling badly.

good evening, I hate starting a post on here.. the letters hesitate for the first few lines.. does that happen to anyone else ?? There, now it quit and I am in real time..

CC< do like I did, find the on/off switch..

small engines have to be choked in order to start.. It might be possible that your choke is not closing all the way.. after you engage the choke cable go to the end of the cable where it is at the motor, and give it a push towards choke ,,by hand.. to make sure it is closed all the way.. sometimes those choke cables get sticky and springy and the wire inside doesn't slide like it should.. If this works, then take some WD40 and spray it all the way along the choke cable from one end to the other.

I would take your horse in a heartbeat, but I think Annie would kill me..

have 3 new guineas in the hatcher.. I moved 40 out to the guinea pen brooder tonight.. I dropped one onto the floor and couldn't find it for an hour.. so it is still in the house until tomorrow..

FT. I cleared it with Annie ,, it looks like I can make it to Elcho on Sat.. I will try to get there about 8AM.. I will stay until about noon.. I used to hang with Wishbone at these swaps, but those days are gone..

Rraiq, two batchis for 6 birds?? the worst part is set up and cleaning up.. 2 batches = two set-ups..

No rain in the forecast. I have a barrel of water loaded and waiting for morning.. I figured that since I watered today it would rain tonight, but that plan did not work.. maybe I should have washed the car..

FT, you liked those cherries that much????

Here is where FM and I went picking....
http://www.cherrylaneorchards.com/index.htm

I highly recommend this place! Very friendly, the cherries were perfect, and they liked to see the kids. The day we went I believe it was 77* with a slight breeze so there were NO BUGS! I was shocked that we did not have any bees bothering us!

Anyway, the recipe for the cherries is really very simple.

4 c tart cherries (or fruit of your choice)
1/2 c sugar
1qt liquor (whatever you wish, I should have used Brandy instead of the Vodka)

Using a clean canning jar with lid, fill the jar with the fruit. Add the sugar and then pour in the liquor. Cap the jar and let sit for a minimum of 3 months, tipping the jar every so often to mix the sugar in.

We had a great BBQ, everyone had a wonderful time! The kids had bubbles and sidewalk chalk and squirt guns to mess with; the squirt guns brought out the kid in everyone and we ended up with one giant water fight! Then DH and BIL started lighting off fireworks. They were so cute with their stash of bombs, trying to decide what would be the best to light off first. Thankfully the only injury of the evening was to my youngest DS; he scraped open his big toe and partially ripped off the toenail when he was running away from the water fight. A bloody mess but nothing serious. Patched him up with a band aid and some blue horsewrap (gotta love that stuff and keep it in stock if you have kids).

I suppose now that everyone has left I should go to bed...... maybe I will sleep better tonight!

Well, I was just about done posting some replies and "PUFF" the whole post vanished into thin air !!

So I'm not going to retype everything cause, well, I just plain forgot what I said !!!

So anyway, Jim , quit talking about Rain, now it will probably rain on Saturday cause you made plans !!! So stop it

Anyways, candled the guineas again tonight and I have 9 that are showing veins and 1 from my flock. For some reason mine are not fertle for the most part

Will plan on setting my alarm so we can get to the swap early and meet up with ya. Hoping to get one of everything I don't already have !!

CC that is a beautiful horse !! Wish I wasn't a beginner !! Sorry to hear of all your bad luck lately. Things will look up, give it a few days.
I remember those days............... Pure HEdouble hockey sticks !!!

I'd bring the mower straight back to the guys house and have him start it for you. Did you happen to tilt it when you were unloading it? Could be very flooded.
hu.gif

Did you check your GFI or circuit breaker for the washer? Just a thought. Sometimes it is something so simple it gets overlooked. Right Jim? ON/OFF

Ok well, don't remember what else I was replying to so I'm going to go for now ............Nite
