My brother put me up to this when I was only 6 years old. We used to go out to eat every Sunday night at an ice cream shop. He says "Kris, I will give you a quarter if you go up to the cashier and say Well well well three holes in the ground." So I did.

Hi all!

Jim...5 freezers! Wow! I thought when I had 2 going when the kids were little I had allot of food! It really sucked when we lost power! At least we only lost about 1/2 the food.

Didn't you say you had a generator? I hope so! Never know when that can happen.

I used to can meat and fish. Canned venison is great for stews!

Canned meat is also handy to have because it's "pre-cooked" so is good if you need a quick meal. I say go for it! If I lived closer I would come help! BTW... how are guineas for eating?

DrH.... When you said it ran off my first thought was a shoulder blade shot.

He could still be around for next year!

tiki... it just seemed to make sense to save the scrapes from canning and freezing. Now I have way more than they could (or should) eat and in winter fresh wont be around. As long as I have room I might as well.

FT... So that lady wanted to "float" eggs without the shell ...LMAO.... oh well

Actually DH is about right on how long "store" eggs can sit around. The worse time of year to buy store eggs is around Easter! Go figure!

Makes you love your girls all the more don't it! I looked online to see what kind of feathers they are talking about for salons.... it looks like they are looking for "Grizzly" feathers. Comes from a special kind of chicken....Very long thin feathers. They're also the kind in demand for fly fishing.

I tried to get some pics of the babies but

The dads are Golden Comets, a sex link, males are mostly white, I have 1 white and 1 whitish hens and the 1 white egg that was in there did not hatch. So, what do you think the odds are I have at least 2 males?

I sure hope the reddish/gold one is a pullet! I think it's so pretty now! And the chipmunk one should be a girl.

Gurrr.... Wish I wasn't going to be so busy the next few days....Need to get the guineas and Ameraucanas in the big coop so I can put Lacey and the kids in the small coop. I need 20 more hours in my day/night! I still have apples and grapes sitting there too.

TO, no fair,, I did not count my quails.. please add 64 to my total.. we are not that far apart after all..

Annie roasted a small turkey for supper.. those royal palms are small, but do they taste good..

I moved all 51 of the baby quails out to the brooder pen in the lean to.. they sure liked the hay I put in there for bedding.. Just like the older ones, they dived into the hay like little gophers..

I made it a point to sit outside for awhile this afternoon.. all the birds were all around me.. It is so cool that they are so tame that they walk right up to me, and under my chair and between my legs.. the turkeys answer me when I talk to them and the geese walk up and chuckle, and stare..

remember Cind, the cutoff time is 5AM for last post.. after that it is the first post of the day..

guineas are very good to eat.. and they make excellent soup.. they have dark meat, so slow cooking is a must do..
I am heading to bed now, too..

I am looking for some 2 quart large mouth canning jars.. I hope to fit a whole guinea into one with the fixings for soup.. sounds yummy to me..

going to post this as the first post for sunday.. I also had the last post for saturday.. didn't plan it, it just happened this way..

Morning Everyone

My babies appear to have done fine overnight in the coop.....I think better than Mom and Dad!!!!

We were concerned about the temp....The seemed cold with the white 125 watt bulb so we put the red 250 watt bulb..Then were afraid it would get to hot...The coop is insulated so maybe the white light will be enough.....any thoughts??? With white light temp was 70-80...With red light it would get up to 90....so have it lifted way up....plenty of room for them to get away from the heat..

BFF is just sick about that buck! Jeremy [DD's Beau] asked me how do you eat that canned veni? I told him over taters, rice, or noodles is good but by far the best way was on crackers with beer. A lady they know gave them some canned elk I came home with a jar.

Didn't get much done yesterday was pretty wiped out after all brush bustin. Must be gettin old.

The leaves are turning pretty fast now and falling. Jim good to hear you took time out to enjoy your birds, does wonders for your thoughts! The birds seem to like it too!

Not really looking forward to cuttin deer this morning seems like all I've done for 4 days is related to it. Oh wait it has been. I keep waffling on building shelves or legs for the table on the back porch. This morning was build legs, now it's build shelves, more storage space but they have to be removeable cause the back porch is in the middle of a remodel. Still!

Shelves it is. Whew glad that's over... I think. But my puter will be back tomorrow which means now would be a good time to get the AC out of the window which means I need those shelves built. Snowball effect. L's still waitin to get her clothes back in the closet but needs paint first. And there's wood to make and....... WCC sounds like you were the entertainment leader in the vehicle, sounds like a good time was had by all! Need to get some food in me before the phone rings. Looks like an easy aft Pack then drag racing.

Actually I didnt go out there to see if the bird was OK--I will wait until it stops pouring and then take a look. Not much can be done if she got it good anyhow...

I think I have about 15 eggs left in the bator...wonder if they will all hatch? Gotta watch the youtube video again....wont be long now! There is a woman on the canning thread and in her blog she was talking about quail. She showed a picture of a 13x9 pan of them waiting to go into the oven...there were about 10 in there!

For her family of 4...good thing they grow fast!

Carol...on Tuesday wanna help me with bumblefoot surgery? My fam is terrible about helping (with anything it seems)and I need someone to be "the assistant." If you have time I would appreciate it! Bring pork if you want to do some trading too...

Gotta work on the coffee pot today; it lets up know when it needs to be vinegared out...only makes 2 cups and then shuts itself off! You have to stand there and press start 6 times to get a whole pot...yup--time to vinegar! Good thing I am stocked up on that from canning...
Who said they have apples lying about? Cind? I need to do mine too. I still have pears and apples and now fruit flies!!! Probably should get at them today since it doesnt appear I will be trying out the come-a-long and building the rest of my fence...darn rain! DH is going to a friend's place to watch the game (I hope) so his carcass will be out of here....I should be able to get something accomplished!
