Angie- just say no, some folks can have great luck with cross beaked birds, others... they can seem to do really great, and then just up and die.
So unless you are willing to pay for the shipping, it really is better to let it go to birdy heaven.

I was given a little belgian d'anvar that had a cross beak and she seemed fine.. then died. It really depends on the bird and some just do better than others.

Well I got some interesting news tonight.
My boss in ND called me, they have a job in FL coming up in March, he wants me on one of the crews down there for 2 weeks. They got a contract to put together portable school buildings... I asked if they were those trailers that a lot of schools are getting... I think they are similar to the trailers but are being put together for new schools.
It could be interesting and lucrative... I hope.

FL in March could either be a godsend or super depressing, depending upon what weather you come back to.

Possibly both.

I do hope it works out for you, though! Sounds like a good opportunity.

Hi all...

Kee... sure hope you find an answer to your dilemma!

Well, I clipped an hook beak and a cross beak today. ( oddly before I came on line and saw Angi's post) I should have clipped them months ago but both were eating (though they are both under weight) I'm hoping it will help. They both had to be clipped so far back there was some bleeding, but got it stopped and they are in separate cages 'till I know they are healed. I'm going to try to get some "packing" for the guinea's wound and open it up real good, flush it, pack it, tape it and hope it drains! I think the cut I've been draining from is too small and keeps closing so it fills again.

This better do it! At least no signs of infection!

You Packer fans are lucky DH turned off the game just in time to save it! Whenever he watches the Packers they loose!
hu.gif
Today he turned it on when they were only 1 ahead... Giants got some points so he turned it off. A few minuets later DS yells out they WON!
tongue.png
.... frankly, I couldn't care less.
hu.gif
Only football I ever watched was when DS#1 played in HS! He also wrestled and was in track. He did very well! So hard to see him as he is now.

Oh well, I'm going to cut up a few pallets, start the dishwasher and go to bed! Night all!

Life is very busy here. Haven't had time to catch up on all the talk. We lost our Serama Frizzle Hen Saturday Night/Sunday Morning. Don't know what happened, checked on them before church and here she was on top of a tin feeder that was next to the heater stiff as a board.

The kids cried, but they understood that things like this happen, I was sure hoping to breed her this spring...

Talk to you all soon,
KEN

Wow ... too bad
sad.png
Weird how sometimes they just die.

I thought something had got the white guinea tonight... found her on the far side of the garden on the ground. Thought she was dead but when I got close she ran! Weird, they fly up on the coop roof, then over to the neighbors, but somehow they figure they can't fly back the same way!
hmm.png
This time she went to the neighbor's then flew the back part of the fence to the garden. And as many times as they've gone to the neighbor's they never roosted in the 50 or so pines they have. Wich is fine with me, but doesn't sound like the guineas everyone else has

I know what I'm getting for X-mass! Maybe sooner! Hubby was talking to young son (22) about cutting up the free lumber and pallets for firewood and young son said we should get a sawsall!!!!
celebrate.gif
I've had it on my wish list for a couple of years but could never justify it for something specific. Now I can! hehehe and young son's friend is going to sell me his grinding wheel for $25 and it's a decent one that only had light duty!
clap.gif
wee.gif
I'm all giddy! hehehe Hummm.... I think maybe the next thing on the list should be a router... or maybe a planer? Hummm... have to get the workshop cleaned out first
hmm.png
and hubby want's a log splitter.... Well, I got quite a haul this year so maybe I should just be happy with what I got.

Although I can't find a working ratchet wrench

No FT tonight?

Good Snowy Morning Everybody! Just getting a dusting but the ground is now white. What a scary game! Thought the Pack fell apart in the second half.

Kee sorry to hear about your cat hope you find a way to have it put down.

Cind sounds like your going to have a complete wood working shop before long.
lol.png
Think a table or band saw would be more more efficient for cutting up pallets. A lot of work for a little wood but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Hope your G recovers! KNA so sorry for your loss! I know the kids weren't the only ones upset.
sad.png
Angie it's hard but have to agree maybe just let it go. You can't save em all. WCc hope that job comes through! Tat bl4 is also a soap maker. I hear ya on the TV but like eating food my parents started me on it at a young age.
lol.png
Want to get that fan closed off today on the coop and a few other ends and odds. Jim kept forgetting to comment on the banana flips. I used to grab one everytime I saw them. Haven't had one for a couple of years cause the last time I did they weren't as good as I remembered.

Ken sorry you lost your frizzle... that is a bummer.
Thanks Terry for the offer of a baby turkey0 in summer I might love one but DH might kill me if I put that in our basement... Although he is getting better about the chickens. Wish one of those eggs would have hatched. they are over due now by 3 days and she stopped sitting on them so they are done, but dont hear sloshing in there so probably half formed. Bummer- you have such great breeds that the babies had to be cute! So i am investigating chicks on craigslist and others in Madcity hens to see if I can find a friend. Otherwise if I cant find another baby, I might send momma back outside and see if the 2 silkies will treat the chick nice. they are not so smart about going inside when it is cold. I had to put them inside last night and lock the door and they did not like that. Do you think they would adopt hte baby ok? being silkies and all?

Broody momma is doing ok = she is just kinda annoying. she did not want to go to bathroom in pen with chick so I would take her outside and she would go and run back in by baby (think if dog). Now if i dont get down there quick enough she jumps out and poops in the basement and jumps back in or squaks until I help her back in. Luckily she is in utility room with no carpet but still gross. Gee can I litter box train a chicken???
Have to post another baby pic soon as she is 2.5 weeks old and has real feathers on her wings now. Pretty girl with grey body, black tipped wings and some black on head too. Guessing she was a mix of cocoo marans/ameracauna. so far she is being called solo ( or hans solo as my son likes to insist)

No snow here yet, but i know it is coming. This is ok with dd's broken arm. We go back this friday to get cast taken off, rexrayed and then another cast for a few more weeks. Fun stuff

I figured it out this morning when taking out the trash... The heater got unplugged and it was just cold enough to freeze the frizzle, but not the other birds. Heater is now plugged back in and the Ladies will have unfrozen water to drink.

Also did something crazy, my other bantam cochin hen went broody... She has 2 brown eggs that were fertilized by either a welsummer or maran, one day I will have dark eggs... Maybe hatched day is Christmas Morning.

Thanks for your concern. I wonder what happened to the heater.

KEN

Good morning! The weather here is not sure what it wants to do...kinda looks like rain but is really fine like sleet. I think my car temp thing will have ICE posted on it this morning! That really shocked me when I first saw it. Especially when it says ICE and it is 39 out! I dont believe it most of the time.
Ken--my birds can unplug their water heater and their fan! I think they try to roost on the cord and it comes unplugged. I have rerouted the cords for this winter so that wont happen. I didnt know that seramas were that touchy! I think I am glad I have mostly large fowl...too bad for your little bird--so sorry.
hugs.gif
Maybe you will soon have eggs hatching and the kids can spoil them?
Cind--be really careful with a chainsaw cutting pallets! I dont think that blade is really great on that type of wood. I like DrHs idea of a table saw. (and I know you have one of those!) Good luck on your "presents!" DD asked me if I wanted mine that she got for me at the Christmas bazaar on the weekend...nope, wait until Christmas...we cant all have our presents early (like DH!) He is loving the TV BTW. Still hasnt said a heartfelt thank you...guess I should stop waiting for it hey?
So where are Jim and FT? I am used to reading their late night/early morning posts! Jim is prolly typing right now...FT? Who knows....maybe she is out rolling in the snow in a feather suit.
lau.gif

Well, I have a very large piece of furniture to move out of the middle of my kitchen...time to play with the sliding number puzzle that is my house! Hey Cind...why dont you pop over and we can play with our Sawzalls? I have two if you dont have one...we could cut out my kitchen wall so I have more room!
Have a fantastic day! Terri O

ETA: Kee--you are not the only one that "always" starts a new page!
