Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wally one of my BR roos has been huddled up and shivering the last two days....all the others are less active and seem to be cold but hes the only one that is acting like its affecting him. Do you ever have one chicken that seems more affected by the cold then others? Or should I be worried this is a symptom of something else? I had someone email me about re homing him but told her I wanted to wait and make sure hes ok.

Anyway on that note. CC whatcha waiting for ??? Lift up the hen and tell up what is under there already !!! LOL BTW Keep that bator empty CC you are getting the first Lavender Orp eggs to hatch !!! I'm getting an egg every other day from Lilly (which is on the top list of baby names for 2011 btw lol) Within the week I'm going to pair them up !!!

What?!?!?!? Honestly??????????? OMG, you are the absolute bestest!

Have you checked him thoroughly for mites? Or a hard molt?

Good 12hr night of sleep everyone. Had some paperwork to do then snuggled with the wifey while watching a movie in bed, next thing I know she is turning off the movie. It just hit 10am and I am now starting to wake up. Last day of super cold for us, just enough snow on the ground to call it a dusting and looking like there will be 1-2 inches on the ground come Sunday.

My hatch is doing fairly well, I have 4 birds that I am going to add to the flock this next week. We may have 3 roos and one hen, I have friend that will take the roos, but that also means I am excited to see what everyone is hatching out that I could bring home the first of February!

I know I am just dreaming, but it would be fun. Hope everyone has a great day, might talk some tonight.

CC: Thanks for the response!

I haven't had any signs of mites or lice that I can tell. Ive checked them at night with a flashlight. However, if you think it would help, I have Permethrin and could & probably should dust them all again. There isn't an egg withdrawl period when using this right? I would think seeing mites would be easy, however not sure how easy it would be to see lice on the fetahers/skin?

He is only 5 months old -would he be going through a moult? I dont see any signs of a moult?

Morning To All....cool pics CC...momma looks proud as a peacock!

We are talking about a possible both set to hatch on april fools and set the eggs on april fools....I'm in for the set on april fools.

Yep, just seperate the broody hen and her eggs, otherwise the other hens will distract her by adding eggs andpossible breakage from all the comotion.....you still need to provide chick starter and chick waterers close by for the peeps to eat....mom ain't providing any milk...

Look at that baby CC! How awesome!

I picked up th ovaview this morning. Cracked open the bator and candled. It works pretty well. I cleared out 4 clears. I was really able to see well into those. I was able to see into 1 BCM ans see some veining with this thing. I hadn't been able to make out anything before. I have 4-5 with veining. There is one though with SUCH tremendous vascularization! That chick just has to be growing big and strong in there. The Ovaview shows so well on that one you can actually make out the membrane and veins! I actually got to bring 4 boys down to show them a clear egg and an egg with a big black chickies blob. The only disappointment is I just can't see movement in these dark eggs. I will hatch out lighter eggs sometime though and see it!

My chicks due date is the 28th. So I lock down on the 25th then? Also have any of you used a sponge to try to keep humidity constant? I have lots of fluctuation, which isnt a big deal right now, but it kinda is during lock down. Any suggestions?

BTW... It's colder than a witches tit out there...

No problem. I had a hen that had teeny tiny little mites, like the size of finely ground black pepper. The only way I spotted them was when they started crawling on my hand. Creepy!

Hmmmm, probably not a molt if he's so young. If he was having a hard molt, he might have bald spots.

I have no idea if there is an egg withdrawal period or not. I know Bigz always recommends using 5% Sevin to kill mites, right Bigz?

He TO, all I can say is Great Minds think alike !!! Someone had to take over Jims position while he was gone !! Can't wait till he shows up again !!
As far as trading chicks at the bash. One rule !!! DO NOT GIVE FT ANY ROOSTERS !!! LOL
Oh and I think our husbands are long lost Twins !!! At least you get some sound out of your husband !!! My just sits in front of the tube !!!
They do sound like two peas in a pod !!!

Thanks Tomski, I'll have to look at that picture closer to see exactly what you mean. It's to early in the day for me to comprehend things !!

I'm going back to town today to pick up some smaller pails from a bakery. Walmart is holding some for me as well. Only this time they are selling them for a buck a piece for the big ones and 2/$1 for the smaller ones. I don't think the smaller ones are small enough though. So I am going to hit the bakery/restaurant first to see what they have. They are free, that price is right. I like using the bigger pails for the nipple waterers but they are hanging to low then and I think they should be higher. I don't want any chicken left behind !!!

And not get any water !
I candled my lavender split eggs and my paint eggs and so far so good !! I need to write the dates down on a calender. I have a staggered hatch going on just like Jim !!! Btw, I'm sure he'll be in on the Foolish hatch !! I'm gonna tell him I want seb geese babies !!!

Ok, now that I split my coffee all over a hunk of fabric I bought I had better go make more coffee !! Good thing it wasn't on my favorite fabric.

CC what size apron did you buy for your hens? They look good in them by the way !! And that Chick !!! ADORABLE !! Once you've seen how a Mama and baby chick together it makes you feel real guilty raising them in a chick TV without a Mama !!

Hey DrHa, I think you should open up a chick day care !!! Clicking and clucking to your chicks !!! You must have been something in your day !!!
