Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

seriously... This wait is killing me... Just one pip would tide me over... Sigh....

No it wouldn't. That's when the real anxiety & bator neck kicks in, right, DrH?

Hey now !!! It's better then M&M's !!! LOL or Cookies !! I'm with Jim, I think I'm coming down with cold. Alot of the time I'll ache all over big time before I come down with something. My neuropaties are my warning signs of something amiss !!!

Anyway, I woke up to more silkie chicks. Now just waiting for one silkie, one dutch bantam and a bantam turken (due on the 28th) Then another batch of silkies on Feb 2nd or 3rd (jeezz my memory is bad)
I thought I was getting an early start today, guess again.
Yep Bigz I'll check OM's bathroom, maybe he used the camera !!!

Should be pairing up the lavender Orps this weekend. So save room in that bator. She quit laying for a few days. Now started up again. So if she lays an egg every other day (maybe more) I should be able to get you at least 4 eggs within a weeks time.
Then I'll collect for myself.

Oh my goodness, I forgot how chatty ya'll are. Almost 20 pages to catch up on since I was on the other day!
th.gif
And all of you people who are hatching already - now I remember why I stopped coming on BYC! You guys are a bad influence on me!

I have 3 incubators out in the garage with a combined egg capacity of around 450 eggs at a time, but poultry isn't allowed in Baraboo... got myself into trouble last summer when our neighbor (who happens to be a cop) stopped believing that all the peeping noise in the garage was from our "pet guinea pigs".

.

Nice suprise to see you stop by SF....the bash is on again, I hope you guys can make it.

Of couse! I miss being around "chicken people"

. Just tell me when and where! We finally replaced our laptop a couple weeks ago (hard drive on the old one crapped out), so I'll be online more often now. Just trying to catch up with everything.

Took a few pictures the other day that I wanted to share... Terri O, remember the kittens from the Portage show in September that I ended up with instead of you? Wish you had taken them, they're a pain in the butt!

And, fordmommy - my husband has re-named "Boo" and is calling him "Hercules" now. He's claimed him. That's "his" chicken, LOL. He's grown into a really gorgeous bird! And he's still living with my tiniest Mottled Cochin hen, and the two of them get along perfectly.

The property we're buying has this old building on it... obviously, it's waaaaayyy beyond restoring, but it has a really neat old field-stone foundation and we're looking at preserving that and then re-building on it as closely to the original as we can this summer, to make into my new coop. Hubby's working on sketches, but he's looking at devoting half the building to my Cochins, with runs on the ground (and they'll have to be securely covered in heavy-gauge wire fencing, because this house is only about 2 miles from the Wisconsin River and we saw a Bald Eagle flying over the house last time we were there!), and half the building to my Call ducks, with raised runs. At one end of the building, I'd have an insulated incubator and brooder room with full electric and heating. I'm starting to get really excited about it!

I can see it! sounds wonderful!

TO you asked about my kids and homeschooling, did I ever answer you? hmmm, IDK, if I didn't, the 2 oldest go to public school and the 3 youngest are homeschooled. it works great for us. next year we may have 1 going to public school, 1 going to a charter school (that's IN the public school here but separate) and 3 that are homeschooled? 3rd grader hasn't decided yet if he wants to homeschool again or not. Kindergardener is going to be homeschooled again next year, he's working on 1st grade math now, but needs alot of help in the reading department and that school failed once. and well my preschooler was to SMART for preschool this year so she couldn't go. now that's she's doing homeschool preschool she's gonna be to smart for 4 year old Kindergarden in the public school and that just means she's gonna be bored. ANYWHO
no info on the letting mama hatch and staying outside??? I REALLY want "pure" silkies but those dumbies are broodie NOW.
I think I will discuss it with DH. I'll probably end up bring them all in, into the basement. dumb hens! lol
I got nothing else, I think it's bed time

Cool pics thanks for sharing them with us SF...Mark your calendar then for May 18, 19, and 20...with the main bash for all on Sat prolly around noon til dark or later! It's the same place as last year....glad you're gonna be there!

Looks like the new place will be fun for you guys. When we started out it was bare land....now amost 40 years later we are proud of the trees and the buildings that make this place truly home.
Hope you can move in sooner than you think.

Good evening everyone! Nice seeing where you will be SF! So is there a house? I think it's funny you show us a picture of the someday coop but not the house...only on a chicken forum hey!
hugs.gif
I too hope you get there sooner than later!
Just got my ton of feed into the barn. Dh was super crabby and yelled at me for letting the guy load the pallet in sideways....yeah, the dock man didnt know what he was doing....our loader got it out just fine...just like I said it would. However, I heard no apology!

If the Smilie thing didnt make me so crazy I would have put a bunch more on here...so tomorrow the birds get to start the new food...I hope they like it! My new mealies are doing great. I gave them a few slices of sweet potato and they really mowed it down. I never saw the other ones actually eating...these do!

Yes RAIM--you did answer me about HSing the kids. But you gave even more information this time. I bet your little girl will wow the teachers if she ends up going to 4YO.

Well I got all the stuff ready for the 4H meeting tonight and then found out that most of the kids couldnt come...so we cancelled the meeting until next wednesday. I hope they show up then! It is so hard with sports and stuff.

COngrats on the new little baby CC! I love the pic where it is cuddling up with the stuffie! I bought a couple of new ones for our dogs when I was at the resale shop. One is a 4' long snake that Elliot just loves! Here is a pic of Valentine playing with hers:

Yes that is Valentine the chicken killer! She is very sassy but also very cute!
I guess I am going to head up to bed...I am just exhausted from this day! Sweet dreams all--talk to ya tomorrow! TErri O

Pain when fingers are pushed back.
Then don't push your fingers back.

I hope it isn't anything serious with your hand. I'm thinking you should take TOs advice & have it x-rayed. Do you know of any low cost clinics by you? I've heard they have them for people without insurance. And I'm glad to hear your chickies are on the mend.

Yupp CC I was the one who brought a knife to a gun fight there's no way I can beat that pic! That's way too cool! I want a broody WAAAAA!

Kris, do you have a LF roo? Do you presently have any silkies/banties out with your LF? If you don't have a large roo, then you might be able to integrate your silkies into your flock. I'm always afraid a LF roo would squash a small hen, causing internal damage or incurring a wound. Moose almost flattened Henny a few times until I seperated them. If you want to keep them seperate, you should look at rabbit or poultry hutches & find a style you like, then see if you can find someone to build you one. You could even buy the materials yourself & just pay someone for their labor. It would probably cost you the same to buy a premade one, but yours would be of quality materials & last a heck of a lot longer. JMHO. (I don't have any silkies, but FT does).

Terri, glad you made it home safe & without incident with your feed. Give OM a

How the heck could someone load a pallet into the bed of a pickup truck sideways? With seatbelts?

I'm glad everything worked out with buying the new bator. Gearing up for some marans?

It sounds like you made a day of it & had fun. Cute pup pic. She looks like she approves of your choice in toys.

Woo-hoo! But you should hatch yourself out some first. I've waited this long, a little more won't hurt me. You are the absolute best, BTW!
hugs.gif

I hope you & Jim are both feeling better soon. It wasn't my fault! I did not share my germs, I swear. Congrats on the new chickies! You've got to write down the hatch days on your calender, woman!

SF, so good to hear from you again! Too funny about the guinea pigs.

In my siggy is a link to the next bash info thread. Awwww, those are the cutest kitties! Wow! That's Boo??????? Holy smokies, I can see why he needed renaming! Big boy! And pretty too. It's so funny how the biggest of roos always take a fancy to the smallest hens. Moose did that too with Henrietta. OMG, I LOVE that old building! That is going to be awesome. Be sure to put hardware cloth on the bottom of your run to keep out any weasels. They love following rivers. Coons too. Good luck!

It has been a loooong day today, and it doesn't help that I can't type for crap this evening. Got baby out of the bator & in her private digs until it got dark so I could give her to mom. Mom pecked at her a few times which really irked me. Then mom got up & was scratching all over creation again, sending chicks flying everywhere.
somad.gif
I hope the little one learns fast how to hustle. She's still a little shakey. But if she's anything like the last one, you'll barely be able to tell which one she is by morning. It's amazing how fast they adapt. And grow! Mom & I went shopping yesterday & when we got back, the 5 older ones had little wing feathers grown in! We weren't gone that long! Unreal. Well, time to clean rabbit cage & get growled at. She is daddy's girl. Sweet dreams, all!
Oh Raim, TO leaves her broodies & chicks out all year long. She had one hatch out in Jan. I had my very first broody so I brought mine in.

ETA: I meant MY mom & I went shopping, not momma hen & I. Thankfully Jim isn't back just yet. I'd never hear the end of it........

I think the mites are dead! I checked all the birds this morning as I was dusting them and didn't see any. I cleaned the coop very thoroughly. Then I sprayed it down with permethrin, opened the doors and windows and let it air out all day. Then I put fresh straw in. No deep litter method this winter I guess. So they got 2 doses of eprinex and one permethrin dusting. Except the 2 infested hens, they got dusted twice this week. If I see another mite I'm gonna lose it!
