This is HILARIOUS!!!

Dang it! I missed pi day! I love pie! Pi's not so bad either.

Geez, the mosquitoes are already playing for keeps. And it's only going to get worse. Last year the hubs started "fogging" to get rid of the mosquitoes. But I imagine after we have the chickens, that would be a no-no correct? What's your take on this, guys?

Tiki, newb question...., by "pets" you mean they don't lay anymore, correct?

Hi Fun-E-Farm! Welcome lots!

*********************
Well I better go, DH will be home any minute and I dont want him thinking I've been online all day :)
********************
I find myself doing that too Apyl! lol

The Hubs is going to be back tonight after a week long business trip! The 4 year old and I are so excited! We'll all get to start crackin' on the chicken tractor of happiness. Not sure what the 4 year old will do... probably sit on the swing demanding we push her...

Be well all!

Hi all! Welcome to new folks too--nice day here again...I wonder what spring will be like? LOL!
After cooking I went out and did some work in the tortoise garden and I took some pictures--of course! I had Tommy, Eli, the twins and both torts out there with me...I wasnt lonely at all!
Tommy following the babies...man did they find the bugs!

Rita working on stripping all the leaves off of the raspberry bush...she also ate my hyacinth leaves and bud...yeah supposedly poisonous to torts....guess I better dig that out of there if spring is going to be coming THIS early!
Do I know you?

Here's Clarence...he behaved himself today and didnt eat anything but grass and dandelions.

I have no idea where all these crocus came from! I sure dont remember planting them there!

Some curious onlookers:

Dogs are going wild...I guess it is time to get them in for supper...sure wish DH would get home...he is bringing me alcohol after he gets done working out...you guys are right about "thirsty jobs!"
Reuben Quesadillas for dinner tonight...saw them on a blog and decided that we will have those to get us ready for Corned beef and cabbage tomorrow! I cant find either corned beef that I KNOW are in the freezer...guess I am off to the store tonight to buy a new one! Need some cabbage, parsnips, turnips and beets anyhow...Red Flannel Hash on Sunday morning!!!!

Later! Terri O

I think Eli is sooooo cute TO... The torts aren't horrible either... Lmao!

I fear I may have to find homes for some of my large chickens.

My dog's medicine is costing a lot more etc. I am looking for good pet homes for a pair or trio of rocks.(blue, black, and barred) The blue and black ones have to stay together~2 years old. (Beauty and Lacy) Some blue wheaton Ameraucana hens and some EE hens. 9months old/a couple 1 1/2 yrs old. And 1 roo.

BBP what was that website that you were on that you can advertise around here? I need to screen the people to make sure they know they are pets.
I just use Craigslist and ask a million questions. I think maybe Angiebubs needs those blue wheaten Ameracana hens.

Just got this & thought I'd share, not so much that we need it, but to share with others.

Top 10 Pet Toxins of 2011

1. Prescription Human Medications

Almost 25,000 calls last year were about human prescription medications. Pets, especially dogs, are notorious for ingesting any dropped pill. Cardiac and ADHD medications make up a large percentage of these calls. Always make sure to take these medications in a safe place away from your pets.
2. Insecticides

Insecticides were the subject of 11% of calls to the ASPCA in 2011. These include products used on the lawn, in the house and on the pet. The most important thing to do is read the label before you use any insecticide, and never use a product labeled for dogs on cats.
3. Over-the-Counter Human Medications

Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen can kill your pet. Never give any medication to your pet without consulting with your veterinarian first.
4. People Food

Chocolate is still the number one people food that pets ingest (we received over 7,600 calls last year). Too much chocolate can cause vomiting, diarrhea, high heart rate and seizures. The second most common food is xylitol (the sugar substitute). Xylitol can cause seizures and liver failure in dogs.
5. Household Products

It is amazing what animals can find to chew up around the house from fire logs to paint. Some household items may just cause stomach upset, while others can be deadly.
6. Veterinary Medications

Chewable medications make it easy to give your dog or cat a pill. However, this tasty pill can also mean that the pet, if given access, will ingest all the pills in the bottle. Always make sure to keep pet medications out of reach. Contact your veterinarian if your pet ingests more than its proper dose of medication or ingests another pet’s medication.
7. Rodenticides

When putting out baits to kill mice and rats, never underestimate the resourcefulness of your pet. Most bait is grain based and is attractive to dogs. Depending on the type of rodenticide, ingestion can cause internal bleeding, kidney failure or seizures.
8. Plants

About 4% of our phone calls are pet parents calling about their animals eating plants. This is one category that cats lead dogs in the number of exposures. Lilies can cause kidney failure and death in cats. Please see our list of toxic/non-toxic plants for more information.
9. Lawn and Garden Products

Fertilizers, which can be made of dried blood, poultry manure and bone meal, are very attractive to pets, so it is not surprising that we get many calls (almost 3,900 in 2011) on lawn and garden items.
10. Automotive Products

With more people keeping their animals inside (especially cats), the number of animals exposed to automotive products (antifreeze, brake fluid, etc.) has dropped. This is great news since many of these products, if ingested, can be life-threatening to pets.
If you have any reason to suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, please contact your veterinarian or the Animal Poison Control Center’s 24-hour hotline at (888) 426-4435.

Welcome to all the new posters!!!

Fun-e-Farm: I'm new to raising chickens-and have had bantys and LF together for 8 months now-them seem to be doing just fine...in fact my Roo absolutely loves his 2 banty girls..they roost together every night. It may have to do with them being raised together-although I'm that's not it...as I have 8 coming in June-6 LF and 2 bantys
