Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Tiki, here is a link to feather sexing chicks. Kinda blurry, but you can get the gist of it.

Glad you made it back safe & sound, DrH. We missed you!

That may help CC. With the picture I was using I got 7/8 boys!!!! I guess the more you do it the better you get at it. I searched and searched and found one of my modern game hens sitting on a stack of about 20 eggs and only a couple were warm

As far as my EEs are going gals. I would say you could get either a salmon project Ameraucana, a gold duckwing project Ameraucana, or a pretty EE and/or all of the above. Until my little roo grows up!

if you're on youtube the Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) videos of his day at McMurry hatchery are good,,,yeah kinda hard to believe but that show can be educational

I use the old standard Genovese basil for my pesto, seed from Johnny's

seeded another 100 soil blocks with bibb lettuce this morning,,a bit early but for the gh between mater plants,,,the ones that won't have basil growing between,,,as things get going in there I'll post some pics

my cat has followed my chickens to the roofs of the farm, 1st the rabbit pens, then the coop, yesterday she jumped off the garage roof as I was filling water bottles for the rabbits,,,scared the crud outta me

the EE talk is interesting, hoping my 3 olive eggers work out from the hatch also working on getting a pair of Wheatons to keep my loner company, buyers do like the occasional colored egg surprise in the cartons

I got out and planted some garlic, radishes, some lettuce mix and a few more peas today. I was really surprised, but my herbs are all coming up! I figured they'd come up when it got warmer out, but they are starting up already! I also finally have some tomato sprouts! I started them 3 1/2 weeks ago and for whatever reason, they are just now coming up. I resowed after a week and a half and now both sets of seeds are coming up! Same thing happened to my watermelon too! They didn't come up so I resowed and now both sets have come up. I wanted about 5 watermelon but now I have over 20! My celery is doing well also! I'm very happy about that. Last year it hardly grew much between sprouting and the two months before I set it out. It ended up dying with the massive downpour we got the next night after planting out. They are growing much better this year and hopefully will be bigger when i set them out.

Love to see pictures of the mators and basil! I got genovese too. Hope it's good!!

Yeah sounds good EL! I was thinking you planted your mator seeds outside. lol good you didn't.

I am going to hook the hose up and then just turn the water off and drain it at night. Without water it is hard to grow little seedlings.

HAPPY EASTER DAY ALL...good to hear folks on the road that checked in had a safe trip.

B-fast at church went well...

Yep, the Turkey stuff is definitely getting the fondle Doc....hope we don't have wind on Wed like we did today....that would be a tuff hunt for sure. Sounds like longjohn weather in the mornings for sure.

bigz

Afternoon everyone, another nice Easter for sure, only lost 1 egg for the kids easter egg hunt this year  each kid was suppose to find 25 eggs, a total of 100 eggs! Think my brother miss counted  as it was their year this to fill the eggs! Guess we'll tease him about this for awhile.

Made ham and attempted to make the chicken on the grill but the wind kept blowing out the flame so we finished it in the oven but of course by that time everyone had filled up on the other food and so we will eat it as left overs!

Next Sunday we will have DS(6)'s birthday party he will be 7 on Sat. Hoping the house will stay clean enough

Just saw the Eagle fly through our backyard, guess it landed in our neighbors backyard and was eating something.

FT... congrats on the baby LOs! I hope they arent both Roos ;) You have to put pics up of them and baby silkies!

Thanks for throwing a few guineas in. They are so darn ugly! Honestly they creep me out a bit. Hopefully

Darn coop did not get done. We went to 10:30 church. Then we went to Baraboo and didn't get home until after 1pm. I did get the big mural done though! I'm NO artist, but it looks lie what it's supposed to. Thanks CC for the inspiration....

I really really need to get that coop done. I have to clean out a new spot for the baby goats and get that set up. Luckily it won't be nearly as much work as this museum of a coop.

The brooders down stairs need to be cleaned out SO bad! But I'm putting it off until the birds are in the coop. The smell... Gag! Another huge reason to get that darn coop done!!! But it is so hard to get much accomplished with the 2 yr old around.i have to wait until he goes down for nap and then I have about an hour and a half before I have to get the big kids from school!

Congrats to all you with new hatchers!
Sorry about the loss Unk.
Jim I am so excited for you and Nora! I'm sure you will have beautiful puppies together! :D

I hope you all had a great Easter!

Hello fellow Wisconsinite! Greetings from Jefferson, WI. I'm Jakob and I'm a "newbie" here. Although I don't have chickens yet, I will get eight Barred Plymouth Rocks in May.

Hi Jakob.I'm Maggie and also noob. I got 2 Americaunas a couple of weeks ago. I'm in New Berlin so we're only allowed 4 hens. I thought I'd start with 2 and see how it goes from there.

We are so proud of Austin our Grandson who got his first Turkey today, he is 10 years old and very excited. Not sure how much it weighs but looks like a good size turkey.
