Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi fellow Wisconsinites. I am looking for 1-2 baby Cochin Pullets, any color or size. Does anyone have any good leads for Southern Wisconsin? Or, any Poultry shows coming up in this area?

Thanks

BBP: UGH! now I want to come in and see the chicks!! Still no sexed chicks there right? Unless your wanting to become the new Roo Rescue for me? LOL And knowing that there is a chance of getting a LO Roo from your eggs- I need to stay away from the babies :-( ("Behaving is NOT fun!!!!)

Also questioning my sanity fo hatching out this mystery duck egg-I KNOW I will fall in love with it-but really dont want to start downt he path of ducks right now

We got 60 pullets in today. All thats left are production reds and red sex links. The good ones went quick! Take good care of that duck egg. If it hatches I'll take it or provide you with a duck buddy for it.

Will you be getting mroe pullets only? Allt he baby talk is getting me all fired up for my own babies here. I am thinking if I put eggs under my 2 this weekend (still trying to figure out if I can seperate them for my peace of mind) I might have babies May 15th-ish. Then my 8 arriving June 4th-8th

Yes you can add it to the water as a preventative but the dosage is a lot less. I don't think it will harm adult birds.

Supposedly medicated feed should NOT be fed to ducks. Not sure why but they aren't suppose to have it ???

Now that I think about it, it may be because of the vitamin B issue. I know ducks need more of the vitamin B vitamins or they develop issues. The corrid (what is in medicated food) prevents them from absorbing the vitamin B (don't quote me on this please) which in turn allows them to build a resistence to the cocci.
So I wouldn't give medicated feed to the ducks. I normally use medicated feed but I got such a good deal on it from Magee's (Thanks Bigz) (they only carry non medicated) so I've been adding it to the chicks water.
I'll try to find the dosage for prevention.

Oh and Bigfam, make sure those little chickies are warm enough. I would stop the vitamins while our are treating for cocci.
FT-So you can use Corrid in the water instead of medicated food?

What about with hen raised chicks-is there anyway to give either medicated feed or water without harming the mom?

And what "IF" my mystery duck egg hatches? Medicated water would be ok for the duckling?

I am planning on trying to leave the hens in the regular coop with her chicks...figure I have plenty of space which should help prevent aggression?

Well, good news. I have spoken with McMurray Hatchery to aid in my sex-link Red Star gender confusion.

They say that even though my 3 Red Stars were yellow and white as babies that since they are red and white now that they are girls!!! YEAH. Apparently, the red star males grow up to be all white.

This means that out of my 10 straight run, so far I have 4 confirmed as pullets (one RIR and three RS), 2 confirmed as roos (RIR), and 4 that I am still deciding on (I'm thinking that I have 2 roos and 2 pullets in those 4 undecided chicks). Three of the undecided are Barred Rocks. One of the BR is smaller than the other two and is the only one with bright red comb. The remaining one is apparently a hybrid of some sort. It definitely has alot of RIR in it. It has reddish comb but unlike my confirmed RIR roos, it doesn't have the tail feathers and short of the comb it looks like a hen.

Evening all!
I was going to say all sorts of things but now that I sat down...I forgot half of it!

Wcc-I will need to place some of the Icelandics. Ideally DH wants to keep 2 pullets. We'll have to see how many hatch....I'll keep you posted...Maybe between you and BigFam, I won't have any left overs!!

Lets see, I got the new buck today. He is very dashing! He will be in quarentine for 2 weeks then I'll breed him to Maggie. I'll get a few pics of him tomorrow!

I had to take Emmitt dog to the vet today. He has been depressed and not eating well the last few days, and just not himself and last night DH said he felt hot. This morning he was shivering so I called and got him on the see his Doc. He looked a tad pale and his temp was 103.5. He got xrays to make sure he did not ingest something he should not have and those came out fine. We also drew some blood to check for a couple of things I can't pronounce let alone spell and that came back fine so we sent off some blood to a full CBC/Chem panel. Other then that Dr.D gave him a shot of Baytril and sent him home with some Baytril tabs to take. So, now we wait....Poor Em-ster....Here is a pic if the little guy.....
