Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ang-sorry I can't help you with your question...Can you contact the company that makes the weed killer/fertilizer and ask them how long to keep the chickens off the treated area? I would think they might know....

Evening All...WOW what a great bunch of pics to view. Sure is fun reading a book with pictures, instead of just pages of print! Thanks for sharing them with us.

The only reason I wear hat Jim is to keep my head warm...sure can't depend on my hair to get er done.

I remember those prom nights well....in the back seat of Dad's big Oldsmobile....ahhh the good times....don't you know what all the giggling is about bl4?

I know I have some great pics of Mustang Suzie here somewhere?

Sorry about the bad news MJ....Best Wishes sent your way.

Welcome twizzle...visit often...the cheeseheads draft everyone that trys out! Makes for a winning team.

Sorry about your cat Terri, even if it wasn't a favorite.

Good job on the poultry ID'S bbp...even if you were the one holding up the pics with the names on the back...

just kidding, of course.

Yep I watched the race to CC...kind of weird the way it ended....thought junior might have a chance, but his putter didn't have any go, and JJ really came back from the back of the pack, few more laps and who knows....I think he had the fastest car at the end.

When a hen goes broody or there are new chicks in a coop-does it cause the other hens to get "baby fever"? Appears that since I added the chicks last Sunday-I have one and perhaps 2 more hens that are getting broody....And since I love being a mom so much-I feel bad not allowing each to have at least once chance to raise some chicks. (These last 2 may have to wait until next year).

BBP: Did Harriet your show Black Orp ever go broody for you? Shes flirting with it right now. Sitting on and off all day and at night wanting to stay in box lol. If she hasnt ever had chicks-she deserves to I think?

BigZ, you in big trouble now! Better be careful at the Bash, DD read your post.....

So all of you hatching pros, I have a few questions about geese. My DD's DBF has Buff Pomeranian geese, and has a mamma goose sitting on eggs. She has been on them for two weeks and today I candled them and did not see much of anything for development. I was expecting a lot of veining and some kind of embryo, but the yolk looked to be free-floating and I think the yolk was giving the light a red tinge since I did not see veining. Are these eggs toast?

Does anybody have this type of goose, or something similar in friendliness that I can switch in as eggs or perhaps some goslings? Anybody ever try to switch in babies that have already hatched under a setting mamma to break her brood?

Thanks everyone!

good evening, I would wait at least until the granuals dissolved. even if they are chicken safe, I would not want my chickens picking at the granuals.. just to be safe, I would keep the chickens off the grass..

I planted 25 pounds of the potatoes this afternoon.. It started to get cold when the sun disappeared.. I marked a row with the tractor and then used the rototiller and furrow attachment to open a trench. Then I scooped a bucket from the compost pile with the tractor.. was that a surprise..that pile is years old and it is still not composted.. I expected it to be crumbly and easy to shovel.. not so.

I figure I have 3 more buckets to finish the potatoes.. I planted Kennenbek today.. I used the worst end of the garden for them.. the 50# of Russets will go in the rest of the row..
It is supposed to rain for most of this week, so all planting will be delayed ..

By my plowing so deep,I pulled up a lot of clay chunks all over the garden.. Not so nice to work with for the first year, but it should all get mixed together and loosen up in future years as I add mulch to the mix.. I have 3 truck loads of wood chips that I will use as mulch this year.. they rot up really nice over time..

no action on the call duck eggs yet.. I set them late at night, so the due date is really more like tomorrow.. I am not worried yet..

one of the peahens layed another egg.. that makes 6 total.. we are letting her keep this one at least for a couple of days, to see if maybe it is the other peahen laying in her nest.. then we won't have to search for yet another nest..

Jim: I figured I would wait until I can't see any of the granular pieces left plus some-just not sure what the "plus some time" is.. :-S I think I will try and contact the mfg and ask. Sad-as they get so excited when I get home from work at night to be let out for a couple hrs to graze....

I just want to say my 3 oldest birds (born mid feb) are stupid and lazy. They NEVER want to go out to forage. They want to stay in their coop, the run, or the goat enclosure. Lazy sh!ts... Go eat some FREE food would you?!

Thanks everyone!

I have never heard of Buff Pomeranian geese,, but then again, I have not heard of a lot of things.
I wouldn't give up on those eggs just yet.. some geese go for 36 days and at two weeks is not really a long time %wise..

I have let incubator hatched goslings loose in the yard and had the main flock immediately adopt them.. strange as it seems, the males are the first to take over the job.. what you really have to watch out for are the existing babies/teenagers.. they will kill the new babies in a heartbeat..

today I had a couple of chicks get loose in the coop.. while I was trying to round them up, one ran on top of the setting goose.., when I tried to grab it, I got bit.. and then the chick crawled under the goose.. alright OK, I will come back later.. Well, Annie came back later and the chick was out and about so she caught it..

I'm not sure. 3 out of 4 of my black orps had chicks last year. I don't know for sure if she did or not. Put some of your new chicks under the new broodys when they come.
