Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

TO....You might be able to save it.... find an old cooler (maybe one of your clients has meds shipped to them) measure and cut a clean straight piece out of the 'bator and cut the same size out of the cooler and glue it with white glue. you got nothing to loose at this point.

Moved the last of the little ones to the main coop last night, they settled in just fine but when I came home today my Silver Wing Dorking was dead next to the feed. Pretty crazy but those big birds know how to finish a little one. I am going to leave them in there though the Marans will help keep them safe and they are past the 7 week mark now.

Having trouble with the drain from the wash sink to the the main line out of the house. There is something stuck in there and I am not having too much luck cleaning it out.

This trouble has brought me to the point of realizing I have too many things going on. Time to put the new bator away till I can make a good design for the turner.

Hope you have a great night.

KEN

to the bear advice,,,,,,,yes electric fence is an option,,,some work, a few hundred bucks, maintenance, inconvenience when accessing my outbuildings,,,,,won't happen here these are problematic bears that don't belong in semi-residential areas. Before baiting and residential feeding were legal this was never an issue. Now we have the highest population of bears maybe EVER in this state and they are drawn to backyard deer feeders and day old bakery,,,,not what nature intended for them. Growing up here as a kid one of the "local" attractions for natives and tourists alike was an evening trip to a dump (b4 they were re-named landfills), most of these were located at the edge of state/federal forests. Fun times seeing 5-15 of these creatures crawling over the stinking/rotting piles of waste,,,,,,,never knew how many actually died from all the toxins we didn't even know existed back in the '50s. They are magnificent and intriguing creatures that got messed up living in proximity with non-native Americans......
Unk, you can have deer feeders up there? Or is it that people just do it anyway? I thought deer feeders have been banned since that disease outbreak? Too bad people don't think ahead a little when they put out feeders for wildlife. Oh sure, they might attract what you want them to, but what else is hungry out there? Unfortunately, wildlife doesn't stay in the woods when the easy pickings are so convenient. Who's going to turn down a free, easy meal?

DrH, after sitting on a pail for 6 hours, I think something besides your knees is probably pretty red too.

Good luck to everyone & their gardens for the next few nights.

Spring in WI, gotta love it.

MLH, I know what you mean. I have been achy all day long. Hate it.

Bigz, I couldn't agree with you more. We keep multiplying, taking over the wildlife's homes, then we whine when the wildlife shows up messing with our stuff. Well, who was here first?

Jim, thanks for posting the tick removal tidbit. I just hope I never have to try it out. Yeesh, I hate ticks!

Oh no, Terri. I hope you can get the bator fixed/replaced. Sorry about the ducklings.

Ken, sorry about your chick. I hope the rest will be ok. Good luck with your drain.

Well, went shopping with mom today. Got home just in time to say bye to DH. He was on his way to band practice.

I was watching the stragglers out in the chicken run right before I went to lock them up, and one lav roo finally decided to try out his crow. It wasn't bad for a first timer. Nowhere near as loud as Moose, though. That beast would give the Titanic a run for it's money.

Well, better feed the furballs & get to bed. Lots of laundry & dishes to do tomorrow.

Sweet dreams, all!

Sister... I got so much laundry... I'd PAY you to help me out! Now granted I'd probably be paying you in chicken poo, duck poo, and goat poo...;)

Hey all caught up again........... Nothing new here same old stuff just a different day......... The girls were out this afternoon catching bugs after our brief shower, and somehow 1 of my SS gals managed to get in my newly planted fenced in garden? not sure how she did it though its 2 1/2 feet high almost all the way around except the septic mound side is maybe 2 feet with the hill. My neighbor has 2 foot all the way around turkey's ducks, chickens guinies, and she has never had any of them in her garden........... so have to watch and see where she got in and hope I catch her the next time.

Big Z why do you prefer Embarrass mill over Marion ? what are the prices like over there I switched to Marion when they jumped my feed 3 bucks a bag earlier this spring. and what other difference did you notice with one over the other?
Well going to bed early have to be up to butcher a nasty roo b4 the grandson gets up............. night all. Kim

I found enough 5 gal pails to cover the tomatoes.. used ice cream buckets for the peppers.. I have a guinea egg sized pepper on one plant.. many blossoms on tomatoes and peppers..

the new neighbor was riding her new horse around her yard.. I stopped on over to tell her about the nice area along the river to ride.. I didn't tell her about the bear back there, though..

she said the horse was 20 years.. It was showed many times by the previous owner.. very bullet proof horse.. prolly too old to react..

I hope it doesn't freeze the blackberry blossoms..

...........jiminwisc...........

Well, this might be a big mistake. Drinking Coffee Liqueur at night !!!! lol

Anyway big week end coming up. I need to order chicken food, duck food, chick starter and see if Magee's can get the stuff ordered and in by Friday. Otherwise i will have to order the duck food from a different place but that is closer anyway but will still go to Magee's. It's worth the drive. My eggs shells are very nice on it.
Plus I will see if I can find my pony harness to have looked at at the Amish Bigzio's friend uses.

Anyway also today a man stopped while I was tending to my ducks and geese and he wanted to buy RIR hatching eggs. Well my RIR Roo passed over the rainbow bridge so I didn't have any to offer him.
SO..... does anyone have RIR hatching eggs or chicks or maybe laying hens for sale ???? Told him I would ask. Jim or Dan do you know of anyone since you are Up Nort ????

Here are some pictures of my 4 mallard, 3 runner and 2 goslings out in their new digs today. The Black and white ones are the Runners.

The gray Gosling is a cross of my two that I don't know what they are so this is my first gosling to hatch from them and my first. The white one is from an egg I got from the guy I got 3 sebs from. It is I think a cross between a brown and white Chinese.
And the white geese are a pair of white Chinese. I just tossed about 14 of their eggs. The Goose would sleep on them at night and not during the day. I had thought she was going broody but I guess not. When the pigs got in the pen and started eating rotten eggs I knew they weren't any good. She started to lay again today so we will start over I guess.

Btw, because we didn't collect Runner duck eggs since last weekend I now have about 4 ducks that have gone broody so looks like I will have a bunch of Runner ducklings. Could have a few that could have rouen or mallard crossed in since I have 18 runners housed with a pair of rouen's and one mallard drake. I will keep you all posted........ Don't know how many I will keep. Dang dh, I told him to start collecting again ........ Guess if you want the job done you gotta do it urself !!! LOL I had no idea that Runners went Broody !!!! News to me !!!! Oh and I have my mix breed goose laying on eggs. Have no idea who's eggs they are. That gray pair is in with my 5 sebs so ??????? I don't think the seb gander is dominant so ????? I need to get them separated.
Hopefully my Muscovy's and calls follow suit. I'm tired of incubating in the house.
I just put in about 4 dozen mix breed chicken eggs in lock down. Most are for my farrier who is coming this weekend to trim. Gotta stay on his good side. He only charges $25 for a trim and I have draft horses and donkeys. A lot of farriers won't even do them or one farrier wanted $50 for drafts and didn't do donkeys !!!! Geez bunch of Sissy's !!! lol
Hopefully the teacher at school who's class hatched out the 13 chicks will take some of the chicks. She said a lot of people wanted to take them home, some for 4H. I didn't think 4H used mix breed chicks??????
Some of the chicks might be pure Aussie's since I put in some of the neighbors eggs. He has two Aussie Roo's (see Heather) over Aussie hens, BR and BO hens. Ought to be cute chicks. I might keep the pure Aussies if I can tell them apart at one day old.
I got 3 dozen eggs from the neighbor and I just threw out another Stinky one tonight. I think I put only 30 of his in lock down. His eggs were filthy !!! I washed them. There was no way I was going to put them in the bator dirty. I wouldn't have even put them in the bator but at the time I wanted to fill the bator for the farrier and I wanted some pure Aussies. By the time I changed my mind they brought them over and so I paid for them and thought since I paid I may as well use them.

So they are due Friday and we need to get hay on Thursday. Geez I had better get to sleep. And I keep nipping at this bottle. I had better make a list of the phone numbers I need to call in the morning because I have a feeling I won't want to do it when I wake up !!!! I sure wish I wasn't such a night owl at times !!!!
FT- I have two pony harnesses, they fit shetlands though.. BUT.. I do have TONS of parts of harnesses.. breast collar types with tugs, driving headstalls and back saddles with rings.
And driving lines.. if you need one, let me know...

And now for something VERY cute...
I had a second Serama hatch today, so after it had a LONG time in the brooder...I took them out after dinner and took some pics.
I have a leghorn/silkie cross... (JIM- do you need some kewl looking cross bred chicks that are the offspring of Foghorn?)
that was born around the same time as the first serama so took pics.

soo tired!!

she prolly got into your garden by accident,,,,,this time... next time will be on purpose.. 6 feet high is a good place to start.. If they know they can fly, then you might want to cover the fenced in area..

So you have gotten me thinking about the baiting laws of the State, so I did some digging. The baiting laws for Deer make no sense at all so I do not know why anyone would bother trying to set more than one 2 gal pile of corn. The regulations for baiting bear are a little easier to understand. CC, there are a few counties that still allow the baiting of deer.

I am one who believes that if your are going to hunt an animal you do so on your own without assistance from bait piles. Keep the game fair.

I do not believe that baiting bear and deer are what has brought them into suburbia. We unintentionally provide these animals with food all the time, and we have encroached on their living areas. It is only a matter of time for them to show up in our backyards. Even here in Central WI we have black bears coming into town and eating from birdfeeders, it is not a problem that happens only in the Northern half of the state. My SIL lives in the city of Stevens Point and has deer constantly eating her plants. I have seen wild turkeys while at work in Oshkosh. You have even stated that you used to watch bears at the city dump; how is that any different than bait piles? How do you plan on removing all unnatural food sources from these animals in order to tempt them to return to their 'proper' food sources? I am sure that Yellowstone would love to hear from you if you come up with something that works so they can deal with the same issue with the grizzlies.

Unk, if you have witnessed people breaking the baiting regulations then report them. I am interested in how you know for certain that this particular bear is one of the group that was relocated. Is it tagged, collared, or microchipped with a tracking device?

Ok getting off soapbox now. Time for bed.....

I couldn't agree more !!!! Same with all the crap they sell to lure in all sorts of other animals !!!

I think he mentioned that it had the same White V shaped pattern on it's chest and was the same age that the cub would be this year???

I hate the way they track the bear up here with dogs. The fact that they bait the bear etc but I just keep my mouth shut (well most of the time) since I am for one out numbered and they have been doing it for so long that it's the norm I guess. But here's one for all them baiters anyway !!!
