Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello BYC World!!! I am glad to be back.

Our internet has been out for about 2 weeks due to tree branches knocking out the wire. The repair guy was here today and repaired the whole line from the street to the house!

The sadness in this all is that TerriO had some Aussies for me and I couldn't meet her. I knew she was headed to an airport today, but I had no idea which one or at what time.

OK...where to start...we have been working in the yard a lot lately (funny what you do when you aren't online). A great friend and I exchanged plants, I received purple echinecea, calendula, purple strife, leeks, brocolli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, "Mexican Midget" tomatoes (they are the size of a marble), hot peppers, lilies, catnip and chocolate mint.

During my time outdoors, I also have been doing a lot of weeding. The beds around the front of the house are now mostly weed free and I still have a ways to go on the perennial garden. I got out the weed eater and trimmed around the trees, fences, and along the sidewalk too.

I'm getting up early tomorrow to head to Rockford, IL for a soccerfest, we need to be there at 8am!

Glad to be back online, even though it appears that I get more accomplished with no internet. Maybe I can keep up the momentum!

Good night All!

One of my chicks drowned in one of the duck pools
sad.png
I also found a meat bird neck deep in one of the pools a couple of days ago. He had been there for a while and was cold and couldn't stand up. With a little care he pulled through. Looks like my ducks won't have deep pools for a while.

I hear ya on that BBP! I hate to find a drowned one. I have solved it pretty well by using those shallow Fortrel pans for water. They sell them for feeding horses or pigs. WHen everyone gets bigger then I switch bag to the kiddie pools. You can even get a drowned adult chicken though....make sure there is plenty of other water available so they dont think that they need to drink from the deeper pools.

Yes MLH and I had a great ride today! It was so fun to be able to call someone up and say "how about?" and the in a half hour she was here! Not many folks who do the spur of the moment thing! SHe even brought a bag of carrots and is forever known as the "carrot fairy" to my horses.

Well--horse show tomorrow down near Elkhorn...guess I better get my carcass up to bed! Nighties--sweet dreams. Terri O

Evening All,
Well after nearly 7 days of stomach/intestine flu, the sudden death of a dear friend in CA, talking her caretaker/girlfriend out of killing herself, AND searching online and then tons of phone calls yesterday, I found a pagan priestess to do her funeral rite (she was a greek pagan - IE one who worshiped Athena and those other ones),
And today I went to Beloit to a used tack store to get a hoof rasp for 10 bucks (yes that is a mega deal), got Joan some end sections (hay cutting teeth) for her haybine, then helped a neighbor of Joans with her chicks and her lone hen, I loaned her one of mine to keep her company. And helped her to figure out why the hen was likely NOT wanting to eat the food they got her. And now I will be chicken sitting for them for a week.
In between all of this I helped Joan unhook her haybine, hook up her baler, fed the chickens, run out with a gallon of water for her tractor that was about moments from overheating, then go back out with a 3/4 full coolant jug from my van, AND another gallon of water....
Then feed the horses, go home, get DH, go into town to get money for babysitting on Thurs....
And then finally get home... bleh.. I'm tired
And tomorrow. more stuff!!

Welcome Farmgirl! Yep, I'm over by Madison so I'm a fat lot of help. Hope you find your feed store!

MLH!!!! Sunday we get to get our Discovery of Witches e-book for a pittance on Amazon!

(by gum, I think we're going to remember to do this!) So awesome to hear about your day with TO!!! What a blast you guys!

So I took stewardship of my Production Red, Ginger, back at BigZio's bash. Carol said she'd been laying. She hasn't since (!) Uhhhhh, is there something wrong? She seems right as rain otherwise. I'm googling this as best I can now to see what I can see.

Sleep Tight!

Odd how coincidences work sometimes. A pic of Jim's pups gets posted, I notice how they look like mini versions of my sis's Maremma Alaska, only to find out she had to have Alaska put to sleep today. She was 14.

So sorry you're going through the same thing, Kristi.

Unk, good luck with your blue eggs.

Vicki, congrats on finishing the coop.

Ang, I put out 2 feeders. One with adult feed & one with chick feed. I have the adult one hanging alot higher, which seems to help.

And here I thought you were gonna say you painted your brooder green & gold on account of DD winning on Dancing with the Stars, Jim.

Glad to hear it didn't burn anything down. Musta wired it ok.

While I agree wholeheartedly with the idea of protecting your livestock from predators, I don't believe in killing an animal because it is a threat. If it kills & keeps returning despite your numerous tries to deter/scare it off, that would be a different matter entirely.

Sorry to hear about your chicks, BBP.

Carol, you tire me out just reading what you do.

Ok, I'm probably not going to sleep for squat tonight. I let DH talk me into putting my last chicks of the season (hear that, Bigfam?) out with the big kids. They have their own fenced in section that they have to share with Jack & Brunswick, oops, Shadow. We put them up on the lower roost but 2 of them decided they wanted to sleep way up with Jack. It was too cute to see one on each side of Jack looking up at him. Yes, they look up at Jack. They are pretty small yet, but fully feathered. So after hearing the frantic peeps, DH put the other 2 up with their sisters. I was pleasantly suprised to see that Jack seemed to like the new additions. He loved Mooses kids but wasn't too fond of the lavs, for some reason. Maybe because Mooses kids were all girls & the lavs were 3 boys/3 girls? Don't know. But with that, I'm going to at least attempt trying to sleep. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi All!

Bl4... ahhh, peace and quiet! Nice change I bet!.... BTW... which soap was the shampoo? Was it the light/cream color one? And I think there was another one that wasn't reg. soap?

krist.... hopefully your folks will understand and realize it's for the best. I think DH was in denial when it came to Duke. it was real hard watching him the last few months. Hope things go better for you and your folks and the dog.

Jim... What's Annie going to do with the baby cockateils? Yep, when the birds get sloppy with the food, they don't more 'till what they spilled is gone! Naughty birds!

BigZ... What about using feed bags for a weed barrier? If they're too "solid" maybe put some slits in them?

BBP... Awww,,,, sorry about the chick... good thing you found the other one in time!

Carol... I hope that means your feeling better!

CC... Hope Jack takes care of the kids good for you!

IDK... last year Jasmine watched her kids until they were over half her size...this batch was barely a month old and it's "OK, your on your own... Good Luck fighting off the big kids"

I think there's still 14... getting harder to count because they hide. I think one of the male guineas is in a tree tonight, I think he decided it was too hot in the coop. I have east and west doors open and a screen in them (have make better doors) so they have a breeze. The coop also has a temp. sensitive exhaust fan, so it's not real bad in there.

I don't think I'll get much done in the next couple of days.... way too hot! Keep cool everyone!

Night all!

Almost forgot the cuteness! They're 4 weeks this coming Monday!

Mommy can we come out and play?

I'm goin'a get you!

Tag! Your it!

Tuckered out....first one back.

Night All!

(I got to learn to use my camera better!

Good Morning all, yes I know it's 1:42am still night for me and Cind but morning for all of you !!!

Anyway, where to start. Remember yesterday I went to get feed in Embarass, Bigzios feed store..... and I was going to share my day later? Well here it is and it has turned into a small night mare or should I say gelding !!!! I am so upset about all of this my head is spinning.

First of all, going back to yesterday. On my way down to the feed store I spotted an estate sale so I decided to stop.
Well, no one was outside. I noticed a dog kennel and heard a small dog barking from inside of it. I looked inside and there was a toy poodle. And she had 4 puppies. (Just so you all know, I had 3 toy poodles up until two years ago. They were all sisters and have since passed away. I LOVE toy poodles)
Anyway, I knocked on the door and no one answered. The puppies were sitting in the sun in the kennel. So I knelt down, moved some avon bottles that she had sitting next to her stuffed chair (yes outside) and moved the kennel to the shade. Just then the woman came outside.
Got to talking about the adorable pups and then I noticed she had a sign that said "horse" and "puppies" for sale.

I then asked her what kind of horse (just to be nosey) Well, it is a Percheron/Appaloosa cross !!!! WELL you all know I love my draft horses !!!
He is white with black spots (she said he was lepord spots but after seeing him it is a blanket)
Anyway, I had to leave to go to the feed mill but stopped at DH work and told him about the pups and horse. I said "It must be meant to be" LOL
She said the pups are $300 each and the horse with saddle, bridle, fencing... everything $4000 !!! WOW I thought that was high.
So anyway, didn't get back from the feed store in time to look at the horse (he was at a different place)
So today I drove over to her house (actually her late mothers house where the sale was) and asked if she could show me the horse.
I was envisioning a white percheron with a lot of black spots all over him.

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND !!!!!!! SHOCKING !!!
.

When I got there his halter was so tight it was digging into his nose. I told her to loosen the buckle and lower it on his nose. You can see the depth that it got embedded into his nose. She went into the house to get some Blue Kote. I offered to help her do it otherwise who knows if she would have done it. I took these pictures while she was in the house. She brought out a fly mask and we put it on but later when I went back to show DH the poor guy it was off already.
His eyes especially the left one is oozing out yellow clumpy crap. She said they had flushed his nose/tear duct but didn't help. I think she said the vet did it but ?????
She is putting vasaline around the eyes.
She said she has had him for 10 years and that he has always been this thin and was never able to put weight on. She said the vet gave him a block of something to eat and it went through him and it was determined that he was chewing ok. She said he wasn't eating his hay or didn't like hay??
When I got there he had two empty 5 gallon buckets for water. No hay. She had told me that her DH was going to stop on his way to work and give him hay, I did see 2 bales in the back seat of his car. When I brought DH over to see him there was no hay and no water. And there was no water spiket outside to give him water and she had brought the pails in the house. We then drove over to her Mom's house and told her we brought him some hay but he needed water. She said her DH was going to bring it to him after work. Argggghhh.

I told her I would give the horse a good home and that he needed vet care. She just said her sister was bring the saddle over from Rhinelander tomorrow.
There is no way that horse is worth any money.. Plus she said he is spooky and bolted with her on his back headed toward the highway and if her sister had not been pulling into the driveway he may not have stopped.
She said she had to tie him with the chains (for only two weeks) yah right because he smells the mama bear and her cubs and he bolts through the fence.

DH said it that horse has been in that condition for 10 years she should be arrested. She said her DH cuts the grass and give him the clippings which I could see.
I would love the chance to bring him home and fatten him up. What worrys me is his eye discharge.
She says he hasn't been dewormed for a year. I doubt it's been that recent.
I can see she doesn't have any money and this is part of the problem. I'd sure like to know where the $4000 comes into play. Must be one nice saddle !!!
I've decided that Butt dog doesn't want another small dog to infringe on her turf. We let her see the pups and she had nothing to do with them. She's an old lady dog and will get all of our attention until the day she is no longer with us. Made me feel so guilty thinking about getting one of those pups. But then again after Butts is gone one day i'll feel the guilt when I get another one. Can't win.

So what to do about this poor horse. He looks in worse shape then the stallion that the neighbor rescued. I took the camera with me today so I could get a picture of him but he must have been behind the barn. Oh and I saw a poor chipmunk drowned in his water trough.

So guess I'll be starting a rescue fund to save the horse, Cody is his name.......... Pm me for my PayPal address !!! LOL

Seriously what do all of you horse people think ????? She said he is about 15 yrs old. Does he look like he could be older ???

I seriously hate some people sometimes !!!!!

Ps the chain was actually put on with a lock on his halter and on the shelter. There would be no safe way to undo that lock in an emergency. And the weight of that chain will just did a new spot on his nose.

OMGs! FT.... that is awful !!!! I understand the no money thing, horses are expensive, that's why I don't have one. But jeez, sell it (sooner), give it away, donate it... something! If my uncle would have seen the halter cutting like that .... he would have beat the person responsible with it!!!! The eyes (to me) look like fly bite infections, his sight should be checked too. He very well could have worms, especially if he was fed grass clippings. His belly looks bloated like he has worms. I bet he was a beauty when he was young!

BTW... the kittens are 3 girls and a boy... wish I did that good with the chickens! LOL

Yep, it's disgusting. I haven't gone to bed yet !! Keep thinking of a way to get that horse out of there. I don't want to tick the woman off. And reporting it to the sheriff will do no good. There is no humane officer up here.

Maybe I'll go buy a lottery ticket tonight or some scratch offs !!!

Think my sleeping pill is kicking in..... Forgot to take it earlier but i was typing and didn't want to make the storying any more confusing then it alread was.

So maybe I'll just sit tight and see if she calls me to look at the saddle tomorrow.

Adorable kittens btw. I need one of those, all 4 poodle puppies and 1 Marema female pup !! On and the one horse I'm trying to rescue. lol

Ok night/morning all !!
