Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Got really really behind in the reading, caught up now. Made it thru Hades and lived to tell about it. We have one window AC unit upstairs and it filters down to make the rest of the house tolerable. Got a bit of rain the other morning and the garden is putting on growth by the millisecond I think.

Good news/bad news....GN 12 guineas hatched under their mama a week ago. BN Something got in the pen the next day (I suspect coon) and killed the daddy guinea. I learned guineas are mama's you don't mess around with. Took a couple hours to round her and all her kids up into the large dog crate. Am very glad guineas don't have sharp beaks. Fierce lady. I think I will keep them contained another week and then turn them loose, since I got them to eat ticks in the woods after all.

The pond is about 85 degrees and primed for algae growth.

Been fighting that off and swimming here and there. Julie brought over kids and call ducks last night for a paddle. That sure was fun to watch, swimming with banty ducks. We'd set them up on the black inner tubes out in the water and they'd walk around the ring, then plunk back in and preen preen preen. I've chased my big ducks into the pond and they leave when I walk away. Dodos.

Dan, ahh, Country Store and Tremblay's. Nothin' finer.

goo morning folks,,,,,got some work in the gh once again,,,beating the heat,,,looks to be the last severe day (did I say that yesterday?)

1st a question? Does anyone know Lisa Olson from WI? she raises Black Copper Marans, shows them and enters her eggs also......I think she also raises horses,,,,I'd like to find contact info for her,,,,she's on FB,,,but I'm not,,,lol

2nd a proposal to those that raise hard stem garlic,,,,,I have 4 varieties, Music, Romanian Red, Georgian Crystal, and Georgian Fire,,,,interested in trading some when they are cured? I got the seed from a fellow in Elderon last fall,,,,,

ok,,,Jim did that biker gal make mention of her incubator? Still waiting for the call here

so since it rained and my hopes of a brown lawn are ruined I guess I will mow today,,,,I've spent $60 this week on fuel for the generator and the hated mower,,,,grrrrr

BINGO, Dan.. she's the one..

How does garlic do in the shade ? I would like to start a bed, but I have to find a spot that I don't plow snow over.. or one that doesn't get plowed for the garden.. It is hard to believe that on 9 acres, I can't find a secluded spot for garlic !! now does dill do in the shade also ?? read that one real slowly.. I have some chives somewhere on the property.. IF the raspberries haven't taken them over..

going down to try starting the tiller again.. by the time I use up so much energy pulling that rope, I could hill the taters by hand..

Lisa Olson rings a bell.. But I might have the last name wrong.. I will check my archives ..

Didn't see a single coon on the porch last night. Picking up a dog later today. My lab that's supposed to 'guard' is getting old and hard of hearing, so hopefully this girl will keep us alerted of unwanted company. She has CRAZY looking eyes. I'll put pics up later xD. Also, got pictures of the fuzzy butt now that it's fuzzy.

Keep cool everybody!

Just set 30 eggs in my new incubator! First time trying to hatch shipped eggs so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a good percentage. There's 20 Swedish Flower Hen and 10 Wheaten Marans eggs in there.

Yeah Dan, I sort of thought they needed sun.. I was just thinking of a spot I had that was out of the way.. I still have one or two trees left..

I am thinking of renting a stump grinder.. I have about 8 stumps that I could do without.. especially the most recent one next to the house .. I could chainsaw them out, but that requires a lot of time and many resharpenings..

we are up to 25 keets now..Wait,,, just checked, make that 27,, and 8 eggs left to go.. these should make Marlene a happy girl.

there is a turkey pipped, also..

Annie got a look into the peahen's nest.. there are a few guinea eggs and only one peahen egg.. Annie was sure disappointed. but hey, if she hatches at least one, it is better than I did.. there is a turkey with a nest in the bottom of a roll of woven fence.. at least we won't have to go looking for the babies after they hatch, eh?

Annie has been poking random eggs under random birds for weeks.. I have no idea who has what or where ..

Hi all! Finally cooling down after spending a very hot day at the fair. First we set up our department then I went and watched the judging for the canning I took in. I know I got at least one first and one second...not sure about the rest! Then I went into the chicken barn to find my show cages and put the dishes in. I have chickens all over that barn! It is not going to be real fun taking care of them this year for sure. I think I take them in on Tuesday. Guess I will need to be bathing some birds this weekend!

I think I am going to have a pot of dinner...then go outside and check all the animals once again!
Later--Terri O
