gud ev'nink, I had a long day today.. started about 7 AM..called DD#2 and took her for breakfast because I didn't want to eat all alone.. she was surprised when I picked up the tab..

I washed 3 carboys, started two batches of wine. Annie picked 11 pounds of black berries. I made 12 pints of jelly with them.. I made the first two batches with Sure Jell.. then I made the last two batches with Smuckers..
the sure jell yields 2 pints plus about 1/2 pint extra.. the Smuckers yields 3 pints almost to the drop.. I like that better..

Annie called the wine supply store.. they said they sell hardly any Montrachet.. they recommended something else for blackberry.. IDK what kind of yeast it is, Annie will bring some home tomorrow after work.. I'll let you know what it is.. I went ahead and uses the Montrachet as long as I had it and I wanted to get these batches going before the berries decided to go ahead on their own..

I heard there is a swap at Weyawega this Sunday ?? starts at 6 AM and $2.oo gate fee ..

I have 36 quail eggs coming tomorrow..

and Annies purple guinea eggs are supposed to be shipping tomorrow.. this should be the last setting of eggs this summer.. subject to change ..

After I got the loader off the tractor, I went for a joy ride.. It sure is fun to drive without all that added weight and bulk hanging on it.. then I dragged a "driveway" down the length of the garden,, just for the halobit..

FT, I'm so happy to hear ET's tests have come back good so far!

And I'm so glad the horse is doing well.

Twiz, cute chick pics. Just so you are aware, your food dish could possibly flip over on top of a chick & be quite a hazard to them if they were smaller, and especially if they were still under a heat light. Yours look like they are plenty big enough for it not to be an issue, but just seeing it reminded me of an unfortunate article I read. A heavy food bowl that they can't tip/flip is best if you can.

Jim, I sure envy your blackberry patch. No bb's here, just some raspberries, and like TO & Cind said, I only got a handful before they all dried up. At least I got a few fruits from them. All the rest of my fruit trees got hit by the May freeze after our crazy warm weather in March & April. No plums, pears, peaches, nectarines, pawpaws, cherries or apples.

I got a few currants, but the critters ate them all up in nothing flat.

Well, my eyes are burning trying to catch up on all the reading, so I better get to bed. Didn't sleep much the night before. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi All!

TO... How many quail do you have that your going to butcher? If it's allot your going to want a mini plucker I bet. Plucking is the job I least like and a bunch of those little birds would drive me nuts! Sure are tasty though. Wish I had room for some.

FT... Glad you showed up! Glad there's no super bad news about DH either! cute cartoon!

cs.... Hope you can work out getting that house!!! Took us 3 years and lost out on a few before we got this one. So much can happen but in retrospect...I don't think any that we lost out on would have made us as happy as this one! You'll get the right house, if not this one, a better one will come along!

rcath... sure hope you find a home for him, can you post a pic?

vicki... letting her go and brood is fine. It may take a month but eventually she'll realize nothing will hatch and give up. I would give her the golf balls.

bl4... a 16x 20 shed? How big does he think chickens are? Or is he going to let everyone have 100 chickens?

I think I need a bunch of kids to come over to go on an "egg hunt" all theses chickens (at least 40 that should be laying) and I could only find 6 eggs! 6!

And I picked up a couple more egg customers

May have to lock them up for a few days until they start using the nest boxes again.

Other then that, I feel tinge bit punkie. I think I'm coming down with a summer cold. Ugh! My throat is all scratchy. Double yuck!

Good Cool Morning All! Jim your making me cry with all those berries! I was thinking more about black raspberry pies, their my absolute favorite! But with that many I surely would be making jelly too. mazo cool about the quail laying! Never had quail but bet they are tasty. Your right Bigz that recipe for relish is real close thanks for posting yours! Might just have to try that sometime. So glad your vision is better! Gotta love restocking the pantry. FT thats super great news about ET!

You really had me worried with all the possibilities. Good news on the horse too. That is a cool little coop thinkin the drawer faces are hinged on the inside. Has to be kinda dark in the there though. Cute pics Twiz! Gotta love the babies. cs I learned long ago that when dealing with the bank you need to ask what the bottom line is as far as your out of pocket expenses are going to be. Used to get soo mad when they give you a number then a week later it's oh and we need $200 more for this or that. Good luck hope you get your "perfect" home! Vic I just love pulling out my broody and watching her. All puffed up, growling, and crabby. She scratches the ground like it did something to her.

Dan think I'm going to have to can some roo's next time for stock. Good idea. Over home made noodles.

TO and Cind I reread my post and it made sense to me guess it was a you had to be there thing. Sorry! And yes I was imbibing. But in my defense I wasn't going to let the BFF drink MY beer without me. Added 8 qts of dills to the stash yesterday. Good thing it's payday tomorrow I need more qt jars and maybe some more pints.

Smuckers.....it is a pectin , just like Sure Jell.. I also have a couple of other brands.. I also get one at the Amish store that does not take as much sugar..

DrH, I planted some black raspberry a few years ago.. so far they don't produce..

Good cool morning! We had awesome rain last night...it was very odd though; the lightening was nearly constant and so was the thunder! It wasnt regular thunder though...it was kinda like a low constant rumble like a jet engine would make. It was so weird that I went and asked my daughter if she could hear it too. No wind either, just a nice and steady rain. This morning is bright blue and cool...soooo nice! (glad I have the day off!

) I think I will be going out to the garden to check for some good food. All this talk about pickles so I would like to get a few in some jars. DrH--do you just keep some brine on hand so you can make yours in bits and pieces? Seems like you do up a few jars every day...

I have GOT to get these chicks out of this room today--they are fairly busting out the sides of the chick TV. They also are very spazzy and I cant even feed them without them going nuts. I am toying with the idea of skipping the basement brooder room and taking them directly outside. I kicked my extra roos out into GenPop so I have a pen....hmmmmm.

Cind I have about 40 quail to process...my heart skipped a beat cause I thought you were going to offer the use of your mini plucker! (snot) Oh well, plucking doesnt bother me at all...their feathers come out way easier than chickens do....no scalding necessary either so you dont have that yucky hot feather smell! I might do a few with skin on (my fave) and then the rest skinless and semi-boneless. Depends on my level of energy!

DD20 just called and her BF missed the bus this morning and now she wants me to take him to it later...what's a Mom for right?

Just talked to MLH on the phone--poor girl, she sounds so stuffy! Fell better soon!

Virtual hug, thanks for not spreading the wealth! I hate summer colds!

Guess I'd better get moving myself,,,I havent done chores yet, wanted to get the first cuppa down and get my fingers nimbled up by typing...sounds like a good excuse to get on here anyhow! We had that same storm come through here. I watched it coming from the north for quite a while. You're right about it being odd with all that constant thunder & lightening, kinda reminded me of popcorn popping. We had wind, though. In any case, it sure is nice to finally be getting some rain.
