Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

afternoon all,

We had snow this morning several times in Wausau. I am glad I got the heater up for the ladies. Gonna miss them but I know they will go to good homes.

Judge beautiful coop.

Off to do more research on bantams.

Howdy from da UP.....

Just checking in. Been having major computer problems and just ended up getting a new one. Nothing fancy but a lot better than my 7 year old one! LOL

Can't say I have even been lurking... Havent been on the net for a couple of weeks... Did I miss anything REALLY important? LOL

Same old crap here although it is getting cold...

Good to "See" ya'll again!

Hey all...my fingers are freezing! I am cooking stuff in the oven to keep the house warm...chicken and sweet potatoes, spinach and jello with oranges (no jello in the oven!) Did you ever put butter, lime juice and cilantro on baked sweet potatoes? DELISH! I dont eat them any other way now!

Tommy is really molting heavily now that he is in the house....feathers everywhere. I think I got his cough/sneeze taken care of. I havent heard it for the last 2 hours that I have been sitting here anyhow. I know what you mean about hedgie chickens! I have a bunch that are looking like hedgehogs right now. Speaking of: MLH--you want us to email the pics to you for that feed trail or what? I think I needed an instruction sheet! I read about people emailing you pics...maybe that was something else?

Thank God DH is home....he NEEDS to take the dogs to the dog park! He didnt last night because of the rain and the dogs were SO BAD! They really need the extra exercise that they get there so they can behave the rest of the night.

Guess I'd better get that spinach in so we can eat...I think DS is starving...must have been all the stress of filling out a job app today! LOL!

(PS) Tomski--did you ever get that stove hooked up for this winter?

well we both survived but what a horrible horrible last 48 hrs!!! Not sure final count of lay offs but I am thinking 300 or more. Seeing friends laid off that Ive worked with for 6 yeads-some with the company for 20+ yrs, and trying to focus on work waiting for the all clear and constant messages of who was cut-sickening. And I am sure there will be another one within the year!!! Sorry for the downer-but THANK YOU for the warm wishes and thoughts!!

Judge, I use a small ceramic heater with a built in Thermostat last year. I have an insulated coop so it wasn't that expensive to heat it. I got it at Ace. It worked so well. I added lights to give the chickens 14 hours of lights and had great egg production.

I would have to say that we had our killing freeze last night. All the rain on my car was completely frozen this morning. Time to get a scraper!

Angie, glad to hear you are safe for now!

Tomski! Nice to see you again!

TO, your sweet potatoes sound delish! I will have to give that a try!

DH made BBQ ribs on the grill tonight. Yum!

Later all!

I just had to share this.......

Neiman Marcus: 9 'fantasy gifts' of 2012

Heritage Hen Mini Farm
3 of 9

Price: $100,000

A living room for nighttime roosting. A library filled with chicken and gardening books. An elegant chandelier. This custom-made, multi-level, Versailles-inspired house sounds like a dream home -- for hens, that is.
Buyers of the Heritage Hen Farm will not only get the custom-built coop, but 3-10 handpicked heritage breed hens, two custom-designed vegetable or herb gardens and an initial farm consultation and two follow-up visits from a Heritage Hen Farm expert.
And for every mini farm purchased, Neiman Marcus will donate $3,000 to the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy to protect genetic diversity and prevent certain breeds of livestock and poultry from going extinct.

OMG!!!! How many of those have they sold? "Initial farm consultation"? For their 3 chickens and herb garden? I hope they warn them that the chickens are going to get into the herb garden and dust bathe if they let them out like in the picture.
