Wolves On My Property!

Wow, I didn't have access to the internet after I wrote this until now so thanks for all the replies and suggestions! I'm in Eastern Washington, not too far from the Canadian border.

But.. i cant help but feel bad for the shot wolf.... WHy did they shoot if it wasnt a kill shot?
Now its going to suffer.. and that really bugs me.

They should have tracked that dog and put it out of its misery...

ETA: I just wanted to say that i have no problem with killing predators or hunting... but i do have a problem with someone taking shots and not tracking the animal to finish it off.....

Well said...I think everyone on this site would agree with you on this point. (least I sure hope they would!)

I agree, I felt bad for it too and thought about it suffering. Hopefully she just thought she shot it but missed.

When I read your post and asked my husband if we had wolves here in WA he said he would bet you were close to Colivelle (spelled wrong sorry). I can't believe he was right!!! Out of 50 states and tons of cities in WA even he was right. He also will not be to happy they released more up that way. He and my son are going hunting in Oct. It is so pretty up that way, I wish I could go too. But our other kids are to young yet. Some day. Hope you have a nice day and good luck with the wolves!!!

SSS at this point.

I am pretty dang mad right and I'll try to keep it clean, but I cannot guarntee I won't insult someone.
Just got back in from checking our cattle.
1 steer calf is missing and before someone even says it; there was nothing wrong with this calf 2 days ago. We check our stock every 2-3 days.
Only thing I found of him was that hair in the cainine poop I found yesterday.

That is about $450 loss. Since I cannot even find where the calf was killed and the last time the trapper was here for a wolf kill, he said unless we produce a dead wolf, they classify us as having none around.
That was about a months worth of groceries.

Do not even tell me a wolf has a right. A wolf does not have a right to take food out of my kids mouths. A wolf does not have the right to kill an animal that I care for year round. A wolf does not have the right to steal from us.

We had wolves around here. They weren't all gone, but now that these biggers ones have moved in they are.

I hate to think of how that calf suffered like the last 2 calves we lost. Hamstrung and eaten while still alive. Pretty gorey, but that is the truth.

Being the devils advocate and a lover of wolves let me ask you. Are you SURE that it was a wolf that killed your calf and/or cow? Are you SURE that the wounds and damage inflicted were in fact a wolf bite and not a domestic dog or ferel pack of coyotes or dogs? It is very easy to confuse a dog kill or coyote kill with a wolf, similar wounds inflicted on the carcass.

Your right, you have to feed your family and make a living...however, to blame a potentially innocent animal based on an assumption or ignorance and fear, is wrong on your part. To do so causes more fear, more worry, and more hysteria in the general population, all of which the wolves in any area do not need. When someone needs to blame something because they do not know, it is easy to blame the wolf and use it as your scape goat.

It has been proven that a healthy mature adult wolf WILL NOT get close to humans, they will not go after young stock or yard animals. The Wolves' diet of choice consists of deer, moose, caribou, elk, bison, musk-oxen and beaver. They have been know to survive on voles and mice if need be.

Yes there are a few wolves in Wa state they followed the moose. I for one am thrilled. i live on the edge of wide open range land.Rattlesnake Mt is at my backdoor(largest treeless mt in U.S.). Huge bull elk and their harems roam this land yet no one sees them, bobcat, lots of coyotes, sometimes even cougar have been spotted Oh and an infamous sighting of Bigfoot ! This is all designed by nature ... I am the invader not they ......... I hope all the facts are gathered before action is taken. If one counts the number of chickens killed by dogs vs those killed by wolves there is No contest!

I simply do not believe that. Wolves, like bears, can become habituated to people and once they discover how easy it is to take down cattle as opposed to stalking other large game, they would be stupid not to continue the habit. ESPECIALLY before they started subsisting on voles and mice!

I don't think anyone here thinks wolves are stupid, whatever else they may think.
