Thanks to my black copper Marans laying her first egg a couple days ago (her 2nd egg is in this pic), I’m getting closer to that elusive egg rainbow.

Clockwise from the top is my Alchemist Blue hen’s egg, then olive egger, Welsummer, and finally, that BCM stunner.

The Welsummer and BCM are new pullets this year and I’m also waiting for a Russian Orloff and unknown breed (fairly certain she’s a black jersey giant) to start laying as well to add even more colors in.

Nature is amazing!

A white egg makes the colored ones even more dramatic.

I was planning on adding a white layer to my flock this year, but the California Grey I was supposed to get at the feed store is now my unknown black-feathered pullet...I think she’s a black jersey giant (or possibly Australorp). 26 weeks old and comb and wattles just starting to come in (and red ear lobes so I know not a white layer). White layers are tricky for me since I’m in town and need non-flighty breeds.
