World Egg Day Hatchalong!(October 12, 2012 is World Egg Day!)

Just wanted to note that all 10 of my leghorn eggs that were set September 21st (not sure if today is day 14 or 15?) for World Egg Day are doing perfectly so far! Also my 9? day in Serama eggs that are still living (2 out of 9) are also still lookin good :)

Next week I start the Halloween hatch, LOL. 18 more Serama eggs, and I hope I have better luck in shipping!

He's doing great. This is not or first ride on this roller coaster, but it is always just as scary as the first time. Three years ago exactly one month after we go married he had a heart attack and was given five stents and a bypass at the ripe o'l age of 40. And it's been one big twisting coaster since. This is one of the main reasons I have geared towards self sustainably with a fresh year round garden fresh eggs from chickens fresh meat from quail, hunting wild hog (which is much leaner). This all also helps with the depression caused by his condition by giving him something to do and helps the pocket book with me being the only income our family now has. not to mention it's just fun raising chickens and other poultry :p lol.

I am starting to become frustrated and annoyed. My first bunch of eggs are (were?) due to hatch today, and I have nothing yet. At the last candle, they all looked great. Temp has stayed steady and the humidity after lockdown has sat at 60 % or so... a bit low for large fowl eggs, I know, but these are Serama...and my 7 out of 11 hatch was incubated the same way. I am going to be upset if these just up and quit at the last minute. I have really lost hope.... if they fail I am not setting any more eggs... broody hens from now on.

Well I got home and there were nine new babies in the incubator still had seventeen left to hatch gave them all a quick candle one I felt some thumping and the others all got cold quickly so I went in for eggtopsies only the one doing the thumping was alive and started gasping for sir as soon as I opened it and it was not in the correct position. I had one hatch the other day that was upside down as well, in fact most of the fully developed dead ones were in the wrong position. Anyone know what causes this to happen.

Oh wow, so young, Chucklecluck! Many years ahead to you both! Life likes to throw curve balls! Another reminder to enjoy every day as much as possible. I have to say that I haven't felt so good in years, but building a coop, though I'm slow, has made me feel so good! When I'm outside, I hear several roosters that I've never noticed before, I hear people in their kitchens, banging pots n pans, I hear birds all around and see lizards running around, and think they better find a new place to hang out as they'll soon be chicken food, LOL. It's like I'm sensing things I haven't sensed since I was a child, it's so weird! This has been so good for me as well :)

RE: you upside down chicks, I'm wondering, were they shipped? Perhaps the incubator has a little slope that put them kind of in an incline downward? My first incubator is like that so I have to carefully set the eggs so their big ends are "up hill'... but that's so sad :( I'm sorry!
Oh no, Ashenfire, that can't happen! No, they must hatch! Oh geepers, you have taken them so far, if you can't do it, I have no hope either!

I hope we hear from you in the morning that they all hatched! Please let us know!!!

I got them from a local breeder so not shipped, I also used an egg Turner, it's the first time I have used it but all the chicken eggs did fine. The only thing I can really think if us that when I bought the eggs they were stored big ends down, but I let them suit a couple days in the correct position be for incubating

This moring I woke up to a little white silkie. Another egg has pipped so hopefully it will have a friend soon (it is really noisy). It will be interesting to see when everyone will hatch. Some where under different hens so they could hatch anytime during this week. On a side note I did get my 30 dozen eggs set (although 4 were cracked) of BR and RIR. I also picked up 3 dozen (plus 3) eggs from a mixed flock of Ameraucanas and some sort of mixed hens (he said they were RIR but the didn't look like it, but some of the eggs are pretty dark like maybe a Marans mix, and the eggs are all really BIG). I also set 11 1/2 dozen guinea eggs, and 12 dozen (minus a few cracked ones) quail eggs. Things will be really loud and cute here in a few weeks.

they probably stuck that way, Chucklecluck. My two surviving shipped eggs are stuck to the air sack on top. Not sure I did the right thing. The air sacks were moving so I kept them 2 days standing still, now the air sacks are deformed, but sticking to to top, and the embryos are not moving when I turn the egg about, so they seem stuck as well. I really want these two to make it, but I can't find much information on what might happen with them. I have them in high humidity as well since their air sacks are so huge at 1 week, and I'm ready to assist in hatching when the time comes. I'll be opening up the top first and will keep them moist and will try to be sure that I don't do anything until they've absorbed their blood and yolk, but I'm very worried :(

Oh my gosh, I have chicks coming this week from the hatchery, rofl! I'm going to be over-run with chicks as well!

Hello Everyone:) My Pekin/Mallard duck egg "Buster" is on on day 26th

He is officially in lock down today! Buster is due to hatch on Monday, Columbus Day. I candled him last night and could see movement. I am hoping all goes well considering a few unexpected temperature fluctuations in the incubator. We recently came out of a rare heatwave in Monterey County. The temperature spiked a couple of times in the incubator.

.I am crossing my fingers for a healthy hatch
