Worms? *poop pics*

Wazine does have the advantage of being approved for chicken use. The only drawback, as some have pointed out, is that it is parasite specific. Since some chicken people prefer not to go completely overboard, there are those who have been handling chickens for quite some time that start with it whenever possible.

Safeguard (Fenbendazole) can also be used. It is a broad spectrum anti-parasitic available at TSC that can also be given to dogs. 3/4ml for large fowl, 1/2ml for standards, and 1/4 for the smaller types. It is suggested to wait 10 days before chowing down on the morning omelet. Also, I have found it to be more affordable than Valbazen (albendazole).

Ok. after reading more you need to figure out what kind of worm your birds have & treat with the right medicine. Wayzine kills roundworms which is commonly found in chickens.

Chickens carry all types of worms besides large roundworms, which wazine only gets rid of. Valbazen kills ALL worms. Safeguard will not kill tapeworms nor flukes....valbazen will. Judging from the pics I saw from Kuntrychick, it would be best to use valbazen. It can be purchased from Jefferslivestock.com or call them. It is a liquid catte/sheep wormer and will last a long time.

Ok. I bought wazine just to have something in case my chickens ever got worms. Guess, if my chickens ever get worms I just need to give them valbazen & I'm done no matter which type of worm they have. Cool. I'm taking the other junk back to TSC. Thanks. Hope, they never get worms though.

I did the same thing and TSC gave me store credit because I lost the receipt.

I used wazine ONCE (my flock was dropping weight) and I still found a worm a month after using it. I use valbazen now and have had no further issues with worms. If you want to get them all and not waste your time tossing eggs, then get the valbazen. .5 cc for a full sized chicken or .25 cc for bantams/juveniles - use a medicine syringe and pull on their wattles to get them to open their mouth and squirt it in. You still have the egg withdrawal, but it will get all the worms.

Actually, fenbendazole, the ingredient in Safeguard, does take care of tapeworm and flukes. It happens to be one of the medications approved for human use (by a dr. RX only). However, there are a couple of different types of tapeworms out there.

The best bet when ANY type of worm infestation is suspected, is to gather up the poop and go spend a bit of money at the vet for analysis then get the vet's opinion on which type of wormer to use. After that, head over to the TSC or co-op, read the labels, and get it (since it'll prolly be cheaper there than at the vet).
