Would this be ok to use as a feed?

The rough estimate is 1/4 lb/day for a light breed (leghorn) and 1/3 lb./day for a heavy breed (Barred Rock) etc. That means a Barred Rock would eat about 10 lbs. per bird per month. This varies according to other treats & how much they might free range. Chickens eat more in the winter. Hope this helps.

I have 7 full grown standard hens, and they go thru a 40 lb bag of feed in about 3-6 weeks. It depends on weather, treats they have had and so on but that is about average. They do get to free range in teh back garden when we are home, and get fresh vegies/fruit/BOSS etc as treats so they are never starving.

Tho, they might try to tell you that they are!!

x2---not made for chickens--for rodents, that's not good...and even if it was--it would go bad way before you could use it all...or something else would get to it...I say pass..not worth the chance...

Yep! definately for rodents. And no way 3-4 hens would go thru it before it went stale, bad, moldy, etc. Chicken feed is cheap when you're only feeding a few. Don't cut corners especially if you're looking to eat their eggs!!

That's good to know.

I think I will tell my girls they need to go on a diet.

I am about to calculate to make sure that I'm feeding enough.

If you have some empty ground to use, when it cools off plant lettuce. It is easy and it grows fast and chickens love it. you can also grow spinach, cabbage, broccoli for your chickens. These are easy fall crops to grow. They are economical to grow, seed is inexpensive and should be ease to grow in all types of soil. This is great fund for the children also. My son and I have a chicken garden where we grow corn, cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, squash all for the chickens. We also have a garden for us but a small family can only eat so much.

Good luck.

Wow, I am grateful for all the info.
