WOW! Little Fuzzy Pirahanna's ! (chick treats)

Just wondering...how old are the chicks you're feeding treats to? Is 1 week too young for treats?

Some folks start that young. I waited until they were two weeks old and I had witnessed them devour a spider that had wandered into their brooder. Other folks say wait at least a month.

If mama has the chicks to raise she's going to be taking them out from a few days old and introducing them to the wide world of food, so use your best judgement.
When you introduce new foods don't be disappointed if they ignore it or are scared of it at first. Chickens are afraid of anything new to their enviroment. Leave the new food in with them for awhile and as the OP found out, they will get brave enough to try it. Usually one chick will get up the nerve and the others will watch that chick. Once they see that chick doesn't die a horrible death from trying a new food, they'll all be up for it.

It helps to offer new foods in the same bowl every time, especially a brightly colored bowl. They'll soon come to recognize that bowl as holding something yummy.

While mine were in the brooder, I used a specific, red bowl for their treats. Even when their "treat" was simply some of their feed with warm water added, they KNEW that was the Goodie Bowl. When I put them outside full time, and they were bigger, I had to change the Goody Bowl to a bigger one. They were afraid of that bowl for a good half a day. Now they know THAT'S the bowl to get all excited about.

That reminds me, I NEED TO RUN TO THE REPTILE STORE! :B
Cricket time!

When mine first had their share they grabbed on and ran around SCREAMING in circles afraid someone else would take it.
The best was when they both did it at the same time not even paying attention to the other. Twiddle dee and twiddle dum

Their whole lives are going to be like that. The leaders will try new things and the others will follow after watching the leaders. I have one hen, almost two years old, that still won't touch the morning treats until after everyone else has and these are the same treats in the same spot since she was a baby.

My chicks are about 2 weeks old. I decided to fed them some crickets and see how they liked them. At first my 2 chicks avoided them. Finally one tried to peck one and it was on. That cricket was chased around till she got it and then she ran around peeping while the other one wanted to see what she had gotten. Now if I stick a cricket in there brooder I can count on one hand the seconds to the great chase and hunt is over. It is alot of fun watching them run around and chase the crickets. I highly recommend this experience.
