Wrath's Marans

I’ve only got 17 hens. It’s definitely more eggs than my family can eat, but I’m so picky about who I give my eggs to. I’ve got a lot of $$ in my flock, and I’m so stupid protective over my girls.

Not a sponge but eggs. I’m like, “do you have children? Any one over 65 living your household? Ppl with anemia or protein deficiency? Well I’ll talk it over with my girls, we’ll get back to you.”

Another nice day here. Not as warm and a little wind but sun shiny. It's pretty hard to get all 19 in a shot together and Jett is isolated with a foot injury (my fault).
I think I counted 13 here with Kong.

Kong said that if I didn't make him move he wouldn't eat my extension cord, so I had to step over him a few times going in and out of the barn.🙂

Aww just look at all those shiny chicken butts!
And kong looking fabulous as usual!

I have considered selling hatching eggs but until I successfully hatch out a couple batches myself I won’t consider these as hatching eggs. My current round started with 19 eggs I pulled 8 out as clear at lockdown. To be honest I’m not totally convinced all eleven remaining are viable those dark green ones are really hard to see anything when I candle them.

So I’m currently less than 60% fertilization I can’t in good conscience sell these as hatching eggs. It was below freezing outside when I collected some of these so maybe they just got too cold before I started them.

On a side note I did find a local legbar breeder. He hasn’t separated his legbars, Marans, and OE, into breeding pins for the season yet. He is currently offering them as a rainbow assortment. I told him I would wait for pure lines. As much as I want multi generation backcross OE I want to know exactly what they are to start out so I can breed forward
Had a gentlemen message me the other day for BCM eggs, but had to tell him I'm backed up 2 weeks but he wanted to set sooner.
So we get to talking and he's got 12 or 13 multigen OE's, 9 lay Olives. Sent me pics and some are blues. So now we're talking about doing an egg swap around April.
