They'll get darker!?!Thanks...

I've been seeing this with my pullets and even some of the hens after their molts. They'll get darker!?!
That is super cool! How is it I still don't have a MaransI've been seeing this with my pullets and even some of the hens after their molts.
This is a progression of Angels first 18 eggs. Back row left is her first egg dated 11/27/23 and took the pic 12/25 so roughly a month of her lay cycle. They got fairly consistent by the second row for color. I believe each row started left to right. View attachment 3912235
These are Betty's starting back after her last molt. Same start back row left ending front right. Shes not a darker egg layer, once in awhile she throws me one like that front left, but she's 3 now so they've lightened up with her age also a tad.View attachment 3912244
I posted these a couple weeks ago, just cause she lays pretty eggs..but these again have lightened up as she's in the midst of her lay cycle.

Do you keep them locked up or let them out? I've been letting her out 4-5 times a day and then catch her before she tries to get back in a nest box. I've heard to lockup for 48 hrs continuous to begin with, but I don't want to prolong this any if I'm doing it wrong. She looks just as pleased as the two I put in broody jail this evening too![]()
Mine are in full lockdown until they stop puffing up at me and broody-velociraptor screaming at me. I have cages that have small hole wire on the bottom, they don't get a roost and the coop fan blows on them. It still takes days!Do you keep them locked up or let them out? I figure if shes out, she's getting more nourishment, more cooling down to the belly and still interacting with the flock.
When she's caged she just roosts on that 4x4 the whole time, and it seems that'll keep her belly heated. There is a fan above her.

Yes that was hers.Did that pullet lay the smaller egg???
