Do you have other roos? We used to have two with our hens and only the dominant one would crow. After the dominant one was killed by an owl, then the other roo started to crow but he was almost 2 years old at the time.

As far as the comb pecking, do they have access to fresh grass? We were advised to give our chiks fresh grass every day and they would peck at that instead of each other. We throw in several handfuls of grass to their pen each day along with pieces of fruits and vegies and they happily peck away at those things now instead of each other.

I have 3 EE roos, only one is crowing now, in the beginning the other two would crow, then this one stepped up to the boss...yours is a roo...the other poster is right, how many hens do you have? If he continues, you may want to get rid of him~however you feel you should....you don't want a cruel one on your hands.

BTW how old is he? Mine started crowing at 8 weeks...yours looks a bit older for certain...

Definitely a rooster but not either breed he was "supposed" to be. He's pretty. Not crowing would be a good thing in my neighborhood.

Definitely a rooster. I'm quite sure he has some Delaware in him (but not a purebred). He MIGHT have some Ameracauna in him, but I doubt it (he's got yellow legs, no muff/beard, and a single comb).

For some reason I want to say Delaware/Red Sexlink cross???

yep roo,he looks very young based on his spurs.he probably doesn't have any manners yet.he needs some older bossy hens to show him manners.being mean to the hens will affect their laying.if he doesn't change soon ,get another roo.there are way too many nice boys out there to put up with a mean one.
he does look like one of the sex link crosses and they don't always make the nicest roos.

this is a rooster.
not all roosters crow right away, he'll learn soon. if he tears or is mean to the hens, he needs to be stewed.hens do not need a rooster unless you need fertile eggs. i had 3 roosters for 20 hens. one was mean and damaged hens, only need 2 roo's. moved him to another pen. he fought with every one. put him in an unused pen, and he fence fought. he was totally insane. the next day when i entered his pen for feed and water, he committed suicide. he attacked and flogged me 4 times, enough is enough.

My neighbor had a Red Sexlink rooster. He was MEAN! You couldn't go in the chicken pen without a big stick.
