I did not even know that!! I saw and talked to Jonathan but did not see them.
What was the visit about?
Man I knew I was swamped but dang I did not think I missed that much.

Well, I did overhear a law enforcement officer talking to someone on the phone about what kind of chickens they wanted him to pick up (he was saying he didn't see the ones they were wanting, did they want him to look for another kind.) So, he might have had ulterior motives.

This was my first Chickenstock and I really must say that my son and I had a BLAST!

I hardly slept last night and it was all I could do to keep from leaving Chambersburg before 6:30. Fortunate enough to pick up my BC Marans pullet straight away and then proceeded to bother that poor gentleman and the lovely couple with the handcrafted show cages off and on for the rest of the morning!

(DYNO360, if that's you in the image you posted, I thank you and your wife for tolerating my jabbering the way y'all did! I'm something of a talker and it's a struggle to keep my mouth shut! My son LOVES the beautiful sword and shield set that y'all made, he is so proud of it. Of course, with such fine props he now feels he should get involved with theater.

It took me a while to find our new Delaware pullet and I guess I missed the Orpingtons and Turkens. I'm not so sure what everything looks like as a babe, or even 'in person' since most of my 'experience' up to this point has been reading about various breeds and examining pictures.

I really wanted to see the silver and golden Sebrights up close and in living color, they look amazing in pictures, but I suppose it's good that I didn't since I may have bought one and since we're looking for layers... well, I would have had a time explaining it to DH!
And speaking of fancy, those showgirls were a sight to see! I had money in hand to purchase one, but someone beat me to it! (Again, it was for the best!)

I have a few business cards and a lot more knowledge than I had before!

So, I am the proud owner of some new information, lovely broccoli, jalapeno and bell pepper plants, caregiver to three new females and mother to one shielded sword-wielding young man.
Not too shabby for our first go.

ETA some spacebar work

My wife thinks I'm the one who does all the jabbering. I enjoyed making the sword and shield, but even more when someone really appreciates my work. Who knows; it may launch a career in theater for your son.

We had a great time of course

! Got rid of everything and came home with a pair of Erin's Rosecombs, pair of Sultans, 3 americaunas, and a little Buckeye chick. I think the man in the Sheriffs car was getting chickens too, and I know we only had to get 2 hens tested and Jonathan was very fast

! Thanks to him, and everyone who helped organize!! This was our 4th stock, and by far the biggest (lots of vendors)! Please don't make Summer stock the last Sat in July as that is the opening of the BCYF and my kids will be busy with that. Can't wait though

We know the officer who was there and him and his wife have chickens and she wanted him to pick some up. He also went in and bought feed. Animal Control comes to all animal events, as they should... to check for animals who were being abused. We had lights plugged into a converter for our babies and a broodie for the tiny guys. Even kept our bigger ones in the van so the wind wouldn't hit them so bad. (also we were so swamped we didn't have time to get them out anyhow.) I saw others with heat pads for chicks and holding them to keep them warm. Many had tents to protect them from the elements. No worries if everyone is taking care of their animals. Animal Control was there at the Sept. swap as well.

I think the biggest concern is the buyers... who walk around for hours with open boxes and a couple tiny chicks inside, with no heat source for them. TSC has a rule that you have to buy a minimum of 6 chicks for that reason. Maybe we should look into having heat packs at our booths for them to buy next swap. Or charge more for the chicks to compensate and include one. I did see a few breeders with newborns and no heat for them out in the elements as well.

I love you guys but you either are missing my point or I need to be more clear. Probably my fault...sorry. I am glad that animal control stopped by. I work with AC in my county on different matters. I am glad law officers are nearby for whatever reason, chicken loving fools like us, crowd control, to stop flogging geese, etc. What WV has regarding these things are certain rules put in place for our and our birds safety. For instance, birds must be tested for certain things within a specific time period before being transferred across state lines. Flocks must be considered clean before birds of any age come into our state. I don't know all the rules, but I will look into it more soon. These events are great and grow in size everytime. I just don't want to risks, fines, being shutdown, etc. at these swaps. They are vital for supporting our habit.

I know we will always follow the rules as far as having birds tested. Maybe a bold box with a big font on the blogspot as far as rules for out of state people? Maybe Jonathan could carify if we are missing anything.I think the only person who would get fined are those selling without following the rules. I am glad animal control is there
