Looks like we're gonna have a nice turn out.

I'd like to start a list of what everyone is bringing. If you could pm me your tenative list, I'd appreciate it.

I won't have much along the lines of birds:( May have a couple columbians and some homing pigeon pairs as well as fresh farm eggs. ...maybe some welsummer hatching eggs from my dad's place. I'll be selling a brooder and my hubby is making me a tractor coop to sell.

Im bringing two canopies and three banquet tables. If anyone else has a canopy, please bring it. Also, don't forget some chairs. You're gonna need a place to take a load off

My Japanese looks like she's fixing to go broody with her own eggs and some Silkie x BO so I may bring some of those too. I put one very colorful flier up at Gowers this morning and I'll probably hit TSC leesburg on my way home.

I don't have any tent or table, can I just set up on my tailgate?

Does any one have any advice on how to price chicks? I am paying for some nice eggs so I'm wondering how much value does a person add by turning the eggs into chicks? I was thinking like 3.5x my cost per egg (counting nonhatchers) and then it increases with the age of the bird. No one needs to buy them if they aren't the right price but I'd at least like to be able to demontrate what goes into it and why it's not a $2 hatchery chick.

Absolutely, Kelpie. I would bring a photo of the parents. That would help. Tailgaiting is just fine with me

I just realized I can hatch out some of dad's welsummers so I'll start incubating on the 1st. I guess I'll sell them for $5 a chick. They are nice stock and lay beautiful eggs. If you've got show quality, you could go higher.

And, if they're not selling and you're ready to drop the price, you can always do that.

Thanks for hitting Leesburg. Maybe hit a petco or petsmart in Leesburg too if you could. Thanks!

I think I might know the silkie and the BO.

Here is what I was thinking...mutt young chicks around here go for about $1.00, birds from hatchery stock $2.00 and better to egg-sell-ent quality $5.00 & up. You cannot even buy a hatchery chick for $2.00. Think about the minimum orders, small box fees, s&h, vaccinations, etc.

I am going to Winchester Friday evening on my way home from Msbears so I will put up signs at the TSC, Petco, and Petsmart in Winchester. I would like to put up one at the SS in Winchester but I will not make it there in time.

Can you think of anyplace else in Winchester I should definitely hit?

I think everyone's price guidelines sound right in line with what I was thinking so we are all on the same page I was just wondering about walk-ons scoffing when they probably usually get the $1 chicks from TSC. We don't have the enocomy of scale to sell them for that unless its a case of a barnyard broody doing all the work.

It's hard to tell unless you know the breed and the line because a $1 chick is just as adorable as a $10 chick.

I sold some pullets this morning for $15.00 a piece and yes they are only one generation away from hatchery stock. They are just about 1 yr and in laying prime. I figure if I cannot sell them for at least $15 each...I'll just happily keep them and sell their eggs. I have no problem selling eggs the dozen.

So...if they don't want my $2.00 chick or my $5.00 chick, well...they can just buy my eggs from those same chicks in 6 months.
