Those hog nosed snakes will play possum, rolling over on their back and puffing up to look dead and bloated if they get cornered or too agitated. They stay like that quite a while too.

I picked cherries this morning. The pie is just about cool enough to cut. i also made one batch of cherry jam. I still have one more tree to pick.

The doe and fawns were back yesterday evening.

I haven't been able to try it yet because...

I had a Sweetgrass hen sitting on a nest and thought the eggs were due to hatch Thursday. When I checked on her tonight she was gone and there were at least 11 empty egg shells. I candled the remaining eggs and found one alive and internally pipped and one maybe. I gave them both to the Blue Slate hen that should be hatching tomorrow.

I accidentally found the missing hen sitting out in the open and not hiding like I thought she would be. I got the brooder ready in a hurry and took time out to snap a picture of a 2 year old buck in the driveway. I grabbed a bucket and went back to the Sweetgrass hen. When I got close enough she stood up and there was a whole passel of little Sweetgrass poults under her. They completely filled the bottom of the bucket I had. There are now 14 Sweetgrass poults in the brooder. The Blue Slate hen should hatch number 15 tomorrow.

Sorry, no pictures but they really looked cute in their green bucket.
